MUMBAI: With comics buzzing around into successful adaptations at the Hollywood Box Office, the competition just became stiffer as Boom! Studios acquire the intellectual property rights of the American comic book publishing company, Archaia Entertainment. The Eisner and Harvey Award-winning indie label Archaia Entertainment was founded in 2002 by Mark Smylie and is known for graphic novels Mouse Guard, Jim Henson‘s A Tale of Sand, Rust, Spera, Cowboy, and Gunnerkrigg Court. Archaia also has a number of titles which have been in development including Rust (Fox), Lucid (Warner Bros.), and Bolivar (Warner Bros.), and Feeding Ground (Pressman Films).
Boasting a catalogue of such original content, Boom! Studios is all set to knock at the doors of the established Warner Bros‘ DC Entertainment and Disney‘s Marvel Entertainment, as the largest independently-controlled comics and graphic novel library in town. Boom‘s venture into feature films will launch this summer with Universal‘s 2 August release 2 Guns starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg. The movie is based on industry veteran Steven Grant‘s original comic wherein a DEA agent and an undercover Naval Intelligence officer who have been tasked with investigating one another find they have been set up by the mob which is the very organisation the two men believe they have been stealing money from.
Meanwhile Boom! is currently developing its next feature Jeremiah Harm, based on the comic book by Keith Giffen, Alan Grant, and John Mueller, which will be helmed by Timo Vuourensola (Iron Sky). The studio is managed by Pete Golden of Golden Entertainment West and represented by attorney Matt Saver.
