The reality show contest named Dawna Stone to the new position of director of development of Body + Soul. Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia acquired the healthy-living magazine last year.

MSLO adds that Stone will focus on new business development for the magazine, tasked with growing national advertising programmes and creating ancillary revenue streams, She is the founder and publisher of Her Sports, a magazine for women who are very active, sports-oriented, healthy and fit. Stone will work closely with Martha Stewart as well as with Body & Soul publisher Janesse Bruce and her Boston-based team.

Stewart says, “Dawna is creative and talented, and her entrepreneurial spirit and publishing experience make her a valuable addition to Body + Soul during its period of rapid growth.”

  • ‘Apprentice’ producers sue Israeli TV station

MUMBAI: The producers of the business based reality show The Apprentice have sued an Israeli TV station for stealing their idea. In India The Apprentice airs on Star World.

The suit has been filed in Tel Aviv by Fremantle Media and Mark Burnett Productions against Israeli broadcaster Channel 2 franchisee Keshet Broadcasting. The demand is that production be stoped on the reality show The Ambassador

The suit alleges that The Ambassador copies a lot from The Apprentice. The promotions for the Israeli show use the hands of real-estate magnate Donald Trump who hosts The Apprentice. The suit states, “The format includes all the components and creates the overall look and feel of The Apprentice.”

In The Ambassador 14 contestants are forced to present Israel in the best light in front of hostile international audiences – including the Cambridge University Union in England. A panel of judges throws one person thrown off the show each week. The winner gets a position with a US Jewish organisation.

In The Apprentice contestants perform business-related challenges. Uttering the famous line “You’re fired” Trump gets rid of one contestant at the end of each episode.

  • Stewart’s daughter to act as ‘Apprentice’ advisor

MUMBAI: Martha Stewart has announced that she will tap her daughter Alexis Stewart and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO) board chairman Charles Koppelman, to be her advisors on US broadcaster NBC’s The Apprentice: Martha Stewart.

Alexis Stewart, a consultant to MSLO, and Koppelman will serve as Martha’s “eyes and ears” during each week’s task and will join her in the conference room to counsel her on which candidate should be sent home. The show kicks off in September.

Martha Stewart says, “Charles Koppelman and Alexis Stewart, my daughter and colleague, are a dynamic duo with me in the conference room. No one knows me better than Alexis and she understands my way of conducting business and dealing with people. Charles brings the expertise of a legendary entrepreneur to the conference room each week.”

Alexis Stewart said, “As the original ‘Apprentice’ it’s an honour to join my mother each week in the conference room. Having contributed to almost every aspect of her business empire, I know first hand what it will take for one of these 16 candidates to win the competition and I’m not afraid to call them out in the conference room.”

Koppelman says, “During the course of my career, I have been shoulder to shoulder with some impressive, powerful people, none more so than Martha Stewart. The world knows of her unsurpassed creativity, but to sit with her in any room, to watch her in action, reasoning, listening, making decisions, is to understand how bright she is, how good she is at the business of being Martha Stewart. What sitting with Martha and Alexis in the conference room of The Apprentice demonstrates is how much fun she is too. Being on The Apprentice’ with the Stewart ladies, has been a highlight of my professional life.”

  • Down to two women on Trump’s ‘Apprentice’

MUMBAI: For the first time in the history of US broadcaster NBC’s reality show The Apprentice the show’s host real estate magnate Donald Trump will be hiring a woman.

The two remaining contestants Tana and Kendra continue their quest and enter the boardroom tomorrow 12 May. The episode ends in a dramatic cliffhanger paving the way for the final showdown broadcasting live from NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts on 19 May.

In India the show airs on Star World.

This week both Tana and Kendra run into pitfalls as they complete their final tasks. Tana, while running The NYC2012 Athlete Challenge, struggles to manage the hot tempers of Kristen, Chris and Brian and she has trouble locating an American Flag at a key moment. Kendra, who is in charge of The Best Buy Video Game Championship featuring EA Sports Fight Night Round 2 is stuck with the challenge of getting Danny, Michael and Erin to maintain their focus while also needing to appease PlayStation who had concerns with the design of the VIP room and threatened to pull their sponsorship.

New York Governor George Pataki joins Donald Trump at the opening of The NYC2012 Athlete Challenge, which is hosted by Bruce Jenner and features exhibitions from Olympians Michael Phelps, Justin Gatlin, Nadia Comaneci, and Bart Conner. Rap artist Fabolous serves as Master of Ceremonies at The Best Buy Video Game Championship.

  • ‘Apprentice’ producer Mark Burnett files lawsuit

MUMBAI: Reality TV guru Mark Burnett whose company produces the business based reality show The Apprentice has sued an entertainment company.

The company in question has been accused of telling advertisers that it has exclusive rights to broker agreements to place products on the show. In India the show airs on Star World.

Media reports indicate that in a lawsuit filed last week, Burnett Productions claimed that Madison Road Entertainment charged advertisers up to 250 per cent more than it eventually paid to Burnett to get brands included in the on-air contestant challenges.

On a more positive note 10 of the biggest names in the rock and rap music industry, including Lil’ Kim, Eve and Fat Joe, join the host Donald Trump and the remaining 10 candidates during tomorrows 10 March 2005 episode.

The Apprentice regularly challenges contestants to design products or advertising campaigns for such companies as Burger King and Pepsi, which pay to be included in the show. In tomorrow’s episode Candidates join forces with music television network Fuse as they petition these 10 celebrities to donate a “personal experience” that will be auctioned off live on Fuse’s popular “Daily Download” programme.

After enlisting each of the music artists for a donation, “Magna” and “Net Worth” select team members to pitch the auction items live on television. The team that brings in the most money will be declared the winner and the proceeds benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

The blending of the corporate and rock worlds spark some truly hilarious moments as candidates struggle to “vibe” with the artists and to speak their “language”. One of the women encounters an overly flirtatious rocker and one of the men’s sexist comments offends the women on his team.
