  • Pearson names Siddharth Banerjee as MD-India & Asia

    Mumbai: The UK-based education and publishing firm Pearson on Monday announced the appointment of Siddharth Banerjee as the new managing director (MD) for India and Asia, with effect from 6 July. He will be responsible for strengthening Pearson’s direct-to-consumer (D2C) strategy and digital proposition in the region while building a direct relationship with the education ecosystem in the region.

    Siddharth will be moving from Games24x7, a gaming company where he served as chief revenue and marketing officer. Over his career spanning 21 years, he has previously helmed senior-level positions at organisations like Facebook, Vodafone, and Unilever.

    “We are delighted to appoint Siddharth as our new Managing Director for Pearson in India and Asia,” Pearson’s global president-higher education, Tim Bozik said. “India is a key strategic market for Pearson and we are confident that his vast experience will be valuable as Pearson strengthens its focus on constructing a vibrant digital education ecosystem.”

    Commenting on his appointment, the new MD said, “These are exciting times for the education sector in India and Asia and I look forward to working with my team in transforming the region’s focus as a digital-first company. There is a huge opportunity for us to contribute to the emerging and evolving digital Indian education landscape and we have a job cut out for ourselves and I along with my team will leverage our strengths that are in line with the rise in online and digital learning, as well as addressing the workforce skills gap across the emerging economies in Asia.”

    An alumnus of La Martiniere College, Lucknow, Siddharth has earned his MBA from FMS- Delhi and coupled it with executive education from ISB-Hyderabad, IIM-Ahmedabad, and the Harvard Business School. He has also been a Chevening Scholar at the University of Oxford and a best-selling author.

  • BharatPe onboards Parth Joshi as chief marketing officer

    MUMBAI: Financial services company BharatPe on Monday announced the appointment of Parth Joshi as the chief marketing officer. Joshi will work closely with BharatPe’s group president, Suhail Sameer.

    Prior to joining BharatPe, he was the head of Marketing– Global Expansion Markets, Reckitt based out of Singapore. He has also held various marketing roles in GSK & L’Oréal. Parth is an alumnus of MDI, Gurgaon.

    This is the fourth key leadership appointment by BharatPe this year. The company has earlier appointed Gautam Kaushik (PAYBACK’s former MD & CEO) who leads the payments business, Sumeet Singh (Amarchand Mangaldas’ former partner) as general counsel and head of Corporate Strategy and Amit Jain as the chief risk officer.

    “Joshi will bring his in-depth understanding of brands, product development and marketing to fuel BharatPe’s continued growth. In the past, Joshi has played a key role in building many brands across geographies in multi-national companies,” it said on Monday.

    BharatPe co-founder and CEO Ashneer Grover said, “I am confident that Parth’s experience with FMCG giants will be instrumental as we aspire to build BharatPe as a preferred financial services and credit partner for tens of millions of merchants. Also, his in-depth understanding of consumer aspirations and behaviour would be key as we build products like BNPL (Buy Now, Pay Later) for the end customers and scale PAYBACK in India in the times to come.” 

    On his new role Parth said, “BharatPe has seen stupendous growth over the last couple of years. It is phenomenal how India has accepted digital payments and BharatPe has been at the forefront of this transformation. I am looking forward to building BharatPe as the preferred brand for our customers. We also have big plans for the consumer side and I am excited to lead and build this business with the team.”

  • Onnivation names Kaveri Das as VP – strategy, and growth

    New Delhi: Onnivation on Wednesday named Kaveri Das as their vice president of strategy and growth. She previously worked for ZEE5 as corporate strategy lead.

    The company invests in the India business of Israeli deep tech companies and helps them grow in India.

    In her new role, Das will be responsible for strategizing and navigating the company’s roadmap for its next wave of growth.

    Talking about her new profile, Das said, “Onnivation’s vision of building a technology powerhouse through their partners and the value it adds to its customers is very compelling. As a customer of Onnivation myself, I witnessed the strong proposition and plethora of products they have for digital transformation that propelled me to join the rocket ship.   • Symphony Ltd. announces Amit Kumar as new ED and Group CEO

    New Delhi: Symphony Limited on Tuesday announced the appointment of Amit Kumar as executive director (ED) and Group chief executive officer (CEO) of the Company, effective 2 August.

    With over 18 years of work experience, Kumar was previously associated with GE, PwC, Shapoorji Pallonji, EY, and KPMG. He also co‐founded an analytics-focused start‐up and ran it for three years. He currently works with KPMG as a Partner with a focus on the Consumer Products sector and specialises in Business Transformation and Profitability Improvement.

  • Gaurav Jain elevated as head of Reckitt India

    Mumbai: In a top deck restructuring, Reckitt India has elevated Gaurav Jain as the head of the hygiene unit, along with the health unit. Jain has been heading its health unit in India since 2017. 

    Accordingly, this new development makes him the chief of the company’s India business. Jain has been named senior VP, South Asia, with all business units across the region reporting to him.

    “Our health and hygiene business units have been brought under one focused leadership team. Gaurav Jain is the senior vice president, South Asia for Reckitt,” said a Reckitt India spokesperson, confirming the top management rejig.

    “Health and hygiene business units have been brought under one focused leadership team, to optimise the potential of the complementary nature of products spread over the Dettol, Lysol, and Harpic businesses,” said the spokesperson.

    This focused approach will help enhance synergies, align business strategy & execution consequently improving performance, she further added.

    Reckitt’s health unit houses brands such as Dettol, Veet, Durex, Strepsils, while its hygiene home business includes Harpic, Lysol, Mortein, and more.

    However, the spokesperson for the conglomerate clarified that the health and hygiene business units have not merged and will be operated independently. “This focused approach will help enhance synergies, align business strategy and execution,” she said.

  • slice onboards Siva Kumar Tangudu as CTO

    MUMBAI: Fintech startup and credit card challenger slice on Friday announced the appointment of Siva Kumar Tangudu as the company’s new chief technology officer.

    An IIT-Mumbai alumni, Tangudu brings with him leadership expertise of over 15 years across senior & pivotal roles at Myntra, HackerRank, Microsoft, & Oracle to name a few. He also comes with an entrepreneurial background, having co-founded a Hyderabad-based startup, Kawanan Labs. Tangudu has been an early-stage investor in slice, witnessing the company’s growth at a personal level. In this role, he will be responsible for strengthening slice’s technological arm and further expanding the company’s offerings, the startup said.

    In the last few quarters, slice has witnessed a significant growth in terms of consumers and the size of the team. Despite the pandemic, it continued hiring and strengthening its leadership team, grew six times in FY-21 and recorded a 40-50 per cent increase in average customer spends, said the company.

  • Havas Group India appoints Anjali Gupte as CFO

    Mumbai: Havas Group India has appointed Anjali Gupte as chief financial officer, further bolstering its senior leadership team. Based out of Mumbai, Gupte will report to Havas Group India CEO Rana Barua and also Asia Pacific Group CFO Brice Pinoncely.

    Gupte has over two decades of experience across industries spanning advertising, financial services, manufacturing and real estate. In her previous role as CFO at Grey Group, she oversaw financial operations of the agency’s creative, digital and activation businesses in South Asia and was responsible for driving profitable growth across India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

    Prior to Grey, she worked at Thomson Reuters for 17 years in the financial risk division. She is also an Independent director on the Board of Astec LifeSciences Limited, part of the Godrej group, where she also had a four-year stint.

  • Dentsu appoints Rashmi Vikram as chief equity officer- APAC

    Mumbai: dentsu international on Monday announced the appointment of Rashmi Vikram as the agency’s chief equity officer in APAC.

    Rashmi joins dentsu from Microsoft, where she was group diversity & inclusivity practice lead, responsible for delivering success by making inclusion a habit to create inclusive products and services for Microsoft’s customers. Prior to Microsoft, she was country head for India at Community Business, an NGO that champions inclusive business practices in Asia. Her other roles have included diversity & Inclusion specialist at Thomson Reuters.

    The agency’s global executive team is hiring chief equity officers in each of its three regions to demonstrate dentsu’s commitment to making long-term sustainable change within business and in society. Rashmi joins chief equity officer, Americas, Christina Pyle and recently appointed chief equity officer, EMEA, Pauline Miller.

    Mumbai: Vodafone Idea on Thursday appointed Shabnam Syed as executive vice president of postpaid marketing as the telco looks to increase its focus on bringing high value customers to its network.

    Prior to joining Vi, Shabnam was with GoAir as vice-president- marketing and ecommerce.  Syed has more than two decades of expertise in advertising and marketing technique, digital advertising and marketing and analytics and model administration amongst others.

    Mumbai: Zenith India on Tuesday appointed Priyanka Kapur as vice president to lead its Nestlé business. She will be responsible for media planning, relationship management, and supervising the complete and integrated offering for the client. Her key focus will be on strategy, digital transformation, data, analytics, implementation, and buying.

    A postgraduate from NMIMS, Kapur has over 18 years of rich experience in media and marketing. Her last assignment was with Lodestar UM for almost ten years as connections lead for its key client Coca-Cola. Her role involved spearheading the strategic planning product across portfolio brands and crafting solutions, connecting brands to consumers. She was also responsible for research and insights and remained updated on the latest consumer trends to build them seamlessly into solutions for brands.

    Kapur has also worked as a marketer with NDTV, led new business development at Balaji Telefilms, and as a media planner on some prestigious accounts like Tata Motors and Zodiac.
