    Meesho onboards Debdoot Mukherjee as chief data scientist

    Mumbai: Internet commerce platform Meesho has onboarded Debdoot Mukherjee as chief data scientist to oversee the company’s efforts to make its e-commerce marketplace smarter and more efficient with the use of AI. 

    In this role, Mukherjee will lead the current 30-member-strong AI team at Meesho and strengthen it by three times by the end of the year, the company said on Wednesday.

    Mukherjee joins Meesho with over 14 years of experience in developing large scale recommender systems as the lead at companies like ShareChat, Hike and Myntra. Under his expertise, the team at ShareChat and Moj created a state-of-the-art feed ranking system and developed AI models that significantly improved user retention and engagement. He is a double gold medalist from IIT Delhi.

    Mumbai: Wunderman Thompson Kolkata on Tuesday announced the onboarding of Ayan Banik as senior VP – brand strategy. In this role, he will report to Wunderman Thompson India chief strategy officer Pinaki Bhattacharya.

    Banik joins Wunderman Thompson from Grey Delhi where he was not only heading planning for key clients like the GSK Portfolio, Volvo MMTC-PAMP, and Baidyanath. He was also heading the planning functions of key Bangalore and Mumbai accounts like the Britannia non-biscuit portfolio, Aditya Birla Group brands, Weilfield range of ready to cook and ready to eat range of products etc. 

    With 20 years of work experience, across agencies Ogilvy & Mather, JWT, Cheil India, Saatchi & Saatchi, Bates 141 and Grey Worldwide, Banik has worked on an enviable repertoire of brands across diverse categories that include names like Samsung, MMTC-PAMP, KFC, Eno, Pernod Ricard, Apollo Munich, Birla White, Volvo, Honda, in-shorts, Zee News, Mother Dairy, Britannia, said the statement.

    Mumbai: India TV has appointed Vinay Maheshwari as group chief executive officer. In this role, Maheshwari will lead strategic initiatives in broadcast and digital media.

    He is a seasoned professional with more than 25 years of experience out of which 17 were spent in the media industry. 

    Prior to joining India TV, Maheshwari was associated with Sakshi Media Group as executive director and CEO. 

    In the past, he worked with companies such as DB Corp Ltd and HT Media.

    Dish TV India reappoints Jawahar Goel as MD

    Mumbai: Dish TV India has reappointed Jawahar Lal Goel as its managing director (MD) till 25 March 2025, the company said in a regulatory filing late Friday night. The DTH service company also reappointed Anil Kumar Dua as the whole-time director for the same period as Goel.

    Goel who is also the chairman of the company’s board shall continue to remain the same. “Goel has been actively involved in the creation and expansion of the company and has been a pioneer of the direct-to-home (DTH) services in India,” the company said in its filing.

    Goel led the initiatives of the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) as its president from September 2006 to September 2010. He has also been on the board of various committees and task forces set up by the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) and continues to address several critical matters related to the industry.

    He is a prime architect in establishing India’s most modern and advanced technological infrastructure for the implementation of conditional access system (CAS) and direct-to-home (DTH) services.

    Dua has worked in several well-known entities such as Hindustan Unilever, Gillette and Hero MotoCorp. Prior to joining Dish TV India Limited, he was the OTE Group MD. He has experience in various facets of business management such as brand building, marketing, customer experience, supply chain, and strategy.

    He has also been an active participant in different forums like CII, Siam, Fada, and Ficci, and has also been the chairman of the Retail Council of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). He was also on the board of the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC).

    Dua is an engineer from IIT Delhi and an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad.

    Mumbai: Viacom18 has named Navin Shenoy as SVP marketing – sports ahead of the launch of its sports channel Sports18 SD and HD on 15 April. He has been associated with Viacom18 since September 2017.

    Shenoy has two decades of experience across FMCG, telecom, media and advertising industries. He was previously the head of marketing for Viacom18 youth, music and English cluster including the brands MTV, MTV Beats, VH1, Comedy Central, and Colors Infinity.

    Prior to joining Viacom18, Shenoy has had stints at Airtel, Unilever, Tata Docomo, and MullenLowe Lintas Group.

    Shashi Sinha takes over as new Barc India chairman

    Mumbai: IPG Mediabrands India CEO Shashi Sinha has been unanimously elected as the new chairman of Broadcast Audience Research Council (Barc) India, following the board meeting held on Friday. 

    Sinha takes over from Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd MD and CEO Punit Goenka, who served as Barc chairman for the last three years.

    Sinha, who also represents the Advertising Agencies Association of India as its board member, has played a key role in the formation of Barc, said the industry body in a statement.

    He is also actively involved in various industry bodies such as the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI); past chairman of Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC); past president of The Ad Club; current chairman of Media Research Users Council (MRUC) and till very recently, before becoming a board member, was the first chairman of the technical committee of Barc India. 

    Sinha is also an honourable member of Facebook India Client Council.

    “I am excited to be given this opportunity as the chairman of Barc at a time when the industry is undergoing many changes and the measurement body continues to grow,” said Shashi Sinha. “Over the last decade, Barc has evolved to become a robust currency and developed into a strong base for decision making for all stakeholders.     Reshamandi appoints Ritesh Kumar as CFO

    Mumbai: ReshaMandi, a homegrown digital ecosystem for natural fibre supply chain has appointed Ritesh Kumar Talreja as chief financial officer. 

    In his new role, Ritesh will lead the company’s finance function where he will manage corporate development from a debt raising and M&A standpoint, said the statement.

    Ritesh has a rich experience of over 14 years in advising businesses on matters pertaining to fundraising, mergers and acquisition, structuring private equity investments and other corporate transactional matters in public and private space. 

    Previously, he was leading the IndusLaw’s Tax practice group as executive director. Before that, he spent 10 years at EY India, including advising clients in the areas of corporate governance, risk management and business performance improvement during this stint.

Over the years, he has also advised companies on international taxation matters, direct tax issues related to structuring cross-border transactions and identifying tax planning opportunities with an overall objective to achieve a tax-efficient structure in India. 

    He has robust experience in handling direct tax litigation matters across Indian appellate tribunals (including being an advisor to clients in devising tax litigation strategy) and tax policy representations before the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the apex direct tax administration body of India.

    Speaking about his appointment, Ritesh said, “Unlike a conventional CFO, a new-age finance leader has multiple roles, especially in a start-up ecosystem which is extremely dynamic. I will be working closely with the founders on significant areas like establishing an effective financial infrastructure, ensuring compliance, leading fundraising conversations, financial planning and analysis, and cash flow tracking.”

    Mumbai: Zee Media Corp Ltd (ZMCL) has roped in Abhay Ojha as the new chief revenue officer for all of its 14 news channel properties. Ojha was previously with News Nation Network as president sales and marketing. 

    He takes over from Manoj Jagyasi who moved on recently.

    Ojha is a broadcast industry veteran with more than 22 years of experience. An alumnus of Delhi University, he began his career with TV Today Network, and has subsequently worked with Network18, Reliance Broadcast Network, TV9 and News Nation before joining Zee Media.

    At ZMCL, he will be responsible for the performance of all revenue-generating avenues, driving growth through strategic decisions, partnering with different stakeholders, and steering leadership on behalf of the sales team of all TV channels of Zee Media.

    He will closely work with senior leadership teams across the organisation with a focus on achieving long-term goals of the company.

    Mumbai: dentsu Asia Pacific on Wednesday announced the appointment of Christina Lee as chief technology officer (CTO), effective 4 April. 

    In her role, Lee will be responsible for providing overarching technology strategy, industry-leading capabilities and solutions to enable business growth and drive day to day operations through transformational business and technology initiatives, said the statement.

    Based in Hong Kong, she will report directly to global CTO Dominic Shine, and be part of both global and APAC senior management teams, it added.
