    Greaves Cotton announces key hires; appoints Dr Arup Basu as deputy managing director

    Mumbai: Greaves Cotton on Tuesday announced the appointment of Dr Arup Basu as deputy managing director of Greaves Cotton Ltd and Sanjay Behl as CEO and executive director of Greaves Electric Mobility (GEMPL). The strengthening of leadership comes on the heels of highest-ever consolidated quarterly revenue of Rs 621 crore reported for the quarter ending 31 March, the engineering company said in a statement.

    With this announcement, the Greaves group leadership will move to a simpler and more focused structure, in line with the reorganisation of business carried out in 2021 to facilitate sustained growth, and led by Dr Arup Basu and Sanjay Behl. Both the leaders will report to MD and group CEO Nagesh Basavanhalli.

    In his role, Dr Basu will lead the development and execution of long-term strategies of GCL and will oversee implementation of overall corporate purpose and vision of GCL across engines and retail business. He brings over 30 years of experience in running manufacturing intensive businesses such as packaging (MD at Huhtamaki PPL) chemicals (president and CTO at Tata Chemicals), and automotive (Tata Motors).

    GEMPL, comprising e-scooters, e-rickshaw and e-auto segments, is one of the fastest growing businesses within the group accounting for 38 per cent of the overall revenue for the quarter ended 31 March, representing an annual YoY revenue growth of 251 per cent, according to the company.

    As CEO and executive director of GEMPL, Behl will focus on leading the accelerated growth of the electric mobility business. He comes with a rich experience in leading consumer facing businesses such as textiles (CEO of Raymond Ltd), broadcasting (CEO of Reliance Big TV) and technology (co-founder/CEO of Nextqore Inc).

    Pocket FM strengthens leadership team; appoints Shubh Bansal as VP- growth

    Mumbai: Personalised audio streaming service Pocket FM has announced Shubh Bansal’s appointment as VP-growth and Rahul Nag as head of communications. Both Bansal and Nag will be reporting to Pocket FM CEO and co-founder Rohan Nayak.

    With these appointments, the company aims to intensify its focus to accelerate revenue, speed up growth initiatives, and elevate its brand positioning, it said in a statement.

    Bansal will be leading the business growth initiatives across listeners, and new business opportunities. He was a co-founder at Truebil, an auto-tech platform acquired by Spinny where he was responsible for spearheading growth, marketing, and revenue. Before Truebil, he was associated with Housing.com.

    Nag will be driving stakeholder engagement through external, social media, and internal communications along with establishing Pocket FM as a culture-first internet organisation. With over a decade and half years of experience in the communications landscape, he has worked with organisations like Flock, Mindtree, and ShareChat. In his earlier roles, he has led the crisis communication for Mindtree during the L&T takeover conflict and contributed to leading the communications for ShareChat and Moj.

    These key appointments come amidst Pocket FM scaling up rapidly, and reflects an increasing trend in audio content consumption on the internet. Over the past few months, the platform has aggressively focused on monetisation and content diversity.

    According to the company, it has recently raised $65 million in Series C funding to double down on its strategic priorities of building AI capabilities, multiplying its listeners base with new languages and strengthening its creator community. The company has already hired senior executives to address these priorities and continues to look for talents in the product and tech space aggressively, it stated. Pocket FM has raised $93.6 million till date and is backed by some marquee investors like Lightspeed, Times Group, Tanglin Venture Partners, Goodwater Capital, and Naver.

    Abhijay Prakash joins Blumhouse as president

    The former studio executive, Abhijay Prakash has been named the new president of Jason Blum’s Blumhouse, an American television and production company, according to a news report. He will oversee all business aspects of the production house and will be succeeding veteran executive Charles Layton. 

    Layton will become vice-chairman of Blumhouse and stay on for two years in a strategic and advisory role. 

    Prakash served Universal Filmed Entertainment Group as president. Earlier, he was the chief operating officer at Focus Features and then DreamWorks Animation.

    “From my vantage point at Universal over the years, it was clear that nobody else in the business was as adept at figuring out how to create value from the content as the Blumhouse team,” Prakash said in a statement.

    Speaking on the new development, Layton said, “We are thrilled because it felt like the stars aligned for Abhijay to join us at a time when I was ready to pull back from the day to day and yet remain active, part-time as vice-chairman.”

    Blumhouse is expected to release five movies in 2022. “The Black Phone” from director Scott Derrickson, “Halloween Ends”, BJ Novak’s directorial debut, “Vengeance” and “DASHCAM”.

    On the TV front, Blumhouse produced shows such as NBC’s The Thing About Pam, starring Renee Zellweger, the documentary Our Father and Netflix’s Worst Roommate Ever.

    Mumbai: Further strengthening its leadership team, Carat India – the media agency from the house of dentsu India – has appointed Vasim Rakhangi as associate vice president – strategy for North and East. He will report into Carat India CEO Anita Kotwani.

    In his new role, Rakhangi’s core focus will be to spearhead and deliver integrated media strategy to the agency’s existing clients across the regions. 

    Rakhangi has over 11 years of experience in media and research, having led multiple brands on integrated media strategies that focus on both traditional as well as digital media. Prior to this, he worked for conglomerates in the FMCG sector like Mondelez, GCPL, Marico as well as broadcasting brands including Star Plus and Star Sports.

    With this appointment, Carat continues to accelerate its transformation of the agency across India, as it looks to bring new focus on its designing for people proposition.

    This is the fourth key strategic leadership hire for the agency in recent months, bringing a fresh perspective, increased impetus, and expertise to deliver on well-known brands in the Indian market, according to the agency.

    MUMBAI: Wunderman Thompson India has appointed Anurag Tandon as its managing partner to lead its Mumbai operations, effective 16 May.

    In his new role, Tandon will focus on growing the client base in Mumbai and closely work with teams on providing business solutions for brands by leveraging the agency’s capabilities of creative, technology, strategic consultancy, commerce and data-driven experience and design.

    Tandon joins Wunderman Thompson from DDB Mudra where he served as managing partner heading the Mumbai and Ahmedabad operations focused on driving top line growth and delivering profitability. He was also global brand director for Unilever’s Ice Cream business – responsible for developing integrated brand strategies and communication plans in markets across SEA, NAMET and LATAM.

    Tata Sons onboards Campbell Wilson as CEO and MD of Air India

    Mumbai: Tata Sons on Thursday appointed Campbell Wilson as CEO and managing director of Air India. Wilson headed Singapore Airlines’ budget carrier Scoot prior to joining the Indian carrier.

    The Air India board approved the appointment subject to requisite regulatory approvals, the group said in a statement.

    Commenting on the appointment, Air India chairman N Chandrasekaran said, “I am delighted to welcome Campbell to Air India. He is an industry veteran having worked in key global markets cutting across multiple functions. Further, Air India would benefit from his added experience of having built an airline brand in Asia. I look forward to working with him in building a world-class airline.”

    Wilson has 26 years of aviation industry expertise across both full service and low-cost airlines. Having started off as a management trainee with Singapore Airlines (SIA) in New Zealand in 1996, Wilson then worked for SIA in Canada, Hong Kong and Japan before returning to Singapore in 2011 as the founding CEO of Scoot, which he led until 2016.

    He further served as the senior vice president sales and marketing of the airline, before returning for a second stint as the CEO of Scoot in April 2020.  Wilson holds a master of commerce degree in business administration from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand.

    Speaking on his appointment, Wilson said, “It is an honour to be selected to lead the iconic Air India and be a part of the highly respected Tata Group.     Earlier in March this year, Tata Sons had announced the appointment of former chairman of Turkish Airlines Ilker Ayci for the same post. However, Ayci had declined the post amid controversies over his political views pertaining to the Indian sub-continent.

    The Tata Group took back the management and control of Air India in January this year, after completing the beleaguered airline’s purchase back from the government of India. In a homecoming for the homegrown airline, Air India was handed back to its founders which began operations as Tata Air Services in 1932, before being nationalised.

    Mumbai: Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd on Wednesday announced the promotion of Amit Haria as the chief financial officer (CFO). Prior to this, he was the vice president-accounts and finance and a key member of the executive leadership team at Shemaroo.

    In his new role, Amit will be leading the financial and business affairs of the company.

    Haria has been associated with Shemaroo for almost 15 years. He was instrumental in steering the company’s Initial Public Offer (IPO) successfully in 2014. His expertise in financial management and strategic planning has ensured smooth functioning of all systems with compliance being taken care diligently.

Some of his core competencies include raising finance, strategic/financial planning, management of offshore subsidiaries, problem resolution, cash flow management, and liaising with banks, amongst others.

    Mumbai: Content studio Applause Entertainment has announced key organisational realignments in its senior leadership team. Deepak Segal has been elevated as chief creative officer. Prasoon Garg has been elevated as chief business officer.

    Segal will take on a wider role across all content verticals including movies, animation and unscripted. Prasoon Garg will streamline all business, revenue, acquisitions, commercial, legal and operations functions into a single group. He will also actively work on business expansion and diversification.

    Additionally, Priya Jhavar, the creative director of shows like “Scam 1992” and “Avrodh,” is promoted to senior creative director. In this role, Priya will help build, mentor and lead new creative groups, even as she continues to helm the most marquee shows coming in the Applause content slate.

    Devnidhi Bajoria is elevated to head of brand, marketing and client servicing across all content verticals. She will continue her focus on brand building and work closely with all business and creative teams.

    Mumbai: 9X Media has announced the elevation of Deepali Oroskar and Nihal Ghosh to senior vice president of ad sales. They both will report to 9X Media chief business officer Punit Pandey.

    Nihal will be in-charge of revenues for 9XM and 9X Jalwa and Deepali will lead the ad sales teams for 9X Tashan and 9X Jhakaas. Deepali and Nihal are both senior ad sales professionals with each of them having over 15 years of experience.

    “Deepali and Nihal have both been with the organisation for over a decade and have consistently proven their mettle,” said 9X Media chief business officer Punit Pandey. “They have led the ad sales teams to achieve better revenue targets and have performed extremely well.
