    Verizon appoints Chris Formant to lead enterprise business

    MUMBAI – Verizon Enterprise Solutions has found a new president in Christopher Formant. The appointment was announced by Verizon executive vice president and president of the company’s wireline organization John Stratton.

     

    In his role, Formant will be responsible for delivering business solutions to Verizon’s global enterprise clients in key industries: healthcare and insurance; financial services; technology; manufacturing, distribution, automotive and distribution; retail; energy and utilities; and the public sector. He will also lead a team driving sales, operations and marketing of the company’s strategic solutions in intelligent networking, dynamic cloud, mobile workforce, connected machines, security and professional service engagements.

     

    Formant’s background combines a unique blend of enterprise, early-stage company and global-business consulting experience. He was most recently senior vice president and president of Avaya Government Solutions and Avaya Professional Services. At Avaya, he was also president of Global Services, where he led a major business turnaround while significantly improving customer satisfaction and loyalty.

     

    Stratton said, “Chris has the expertise and marketplace know-how to ensure Verizon brings enterprise-class value to the world’s leading companies. His dynamic approach to matching technology solutions to business problems will be a great asset to Verizon clients everywhere they do business: throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia and Latin America.”

     

    In addition to his leadership roles at Avaya, Formant has held executive positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers and MBNA, as well as serving as adviser/investor to early-stage technology companies. He has been named as one of the Top 25 Most Influential Consultants by Consulting Magazine. Formant received his Bachelor of Science degree from Washington and Lee University and a Master of Business Administration from George Washington University.

    Tahseen Shaukat joins Ten Sports Pakistan

    MUMBAI: After almost a decade at the Karachi-headquartered Geo TV Network run by Independent Media Corp, Tahseen Shaukat – an executive familiar to many Indian broadcast and film professionals –  has joined Ten Sports Pakistan as country head. He took up his new position on 14 April and his mandate is to strengthen the sports network’s – which is part of India’s Zee Entertainment Group – objectives in Pakistan.

     

    His hire signals the Zee group’s firm intentions to get its sports broadcasting act together in the country.   Ten Sports – unlike many other Indian channels – does have legal landing rights in Pakistan, according to the Pakistan Electronic Media Authority website. It has broadcast rights to international cricket of four cricket boards along with other premium sports properties such as UEFA and WWE.  In India Ten Sports operates a bouquet of channels which includes Ten Sports, Ten Crickt, Ten HD, Ten Golf and Ten Action.

     

    Shaukat has a broad based experience in leading, setting up, managing opportunities and developing turnaround strategies on various media outlets. He started his career with E-Commerce Gateway as a strategic communications manager in 2002. He was there for a year before moving to Media Max – ARY Digital as manager marketing and then finally joined Geo TV Network, the television arm of Jang Group in 2004 as general manager – special projects.

     

    His stint with Geo TV network lasted for almost a decade where he left as executive director having handled  portfolios of business development, licensing, acquisitions and digital for the group and was responsible for steering network growth through licensing and collaborative ventures. He was instrumental with the launch and growth of Geo’s flagship sports channel Geo Super and driving the growth of two GECs through premium Turkish, Indian and foreign content including the recently launched format Pakistan Idol.

    Entropic appoints Tanmay Jha to expand its India biz

    MUMBAI: Entropic, a semiconductor solutions for connected homes is looking at expanding its base in India. Thus, the company has announced the appointment of Tanmay Jha as its associate director for sales for India.

     

    Prior to joining Entropic, Jha was working with Pace-India. In his new role, he will focus on growing Entropic’s set-top box (STB) system-on-a-chip (SoC) and connectivity businesses in the Indian sub-continent. Jha will be based in New Delhi and will report to EMEA and India VP sales Noel McKenna.

     

    “I am happy to be a part of Entropic. My immediate role will be to push Entropic’s suite of system-on-chip, broadband access and channel stacking switch solutions to the cable and satellite operators across the country,” said Jha.

     

    Jha joins Entropic with 20-years of Pay-TV sales experience. He was with Pace – India for two years as an integral STB sales team member. Earlier, Jha has also worked with a number of leading Indian Pay-TV companies including the IPTV, Myway, as well as with Zee Turner, Sahara TV, Tata Communication and Sify.

    Hungama Digital Services appoints Mohit Hira as CEO

    MUMBAI: JWT south Asia has announced the appointment of Mohit Hira as the CEO of Hungama Digital Services (HDS).

     

    Mohit, who joined JWT in November 2012, has been overseeing JWT Group’s digital initiatives over the past eight months; in addition to his role as the business lead on Airtel. Given JWT’s increased focus on digital, he will now assume leadership of digital. As part of this, Mohit will be overseeing the entire operations of HDS and JWT Digital, thereby ensuring seamless integration of the two to offer truly integrated digital solutions to all HDS and JWT clients.

    Mohit is an advertising creative director turned netvangelist, with a career spanning over two decades with rich and diverse experience across advertising, marketing, journalism and digital media. He was recently nominated to the Impact India Digital Power 100 List and has also been on the IBM-Paul Writer list of Top 50 CMOs earlier.

    JWT acquired a majority stake in HDS in May 2012 to offer to its clients a full services digital agency specialising in digital marketing and social media solutions. As part of the acquisition, Hungama’s activations arm, Hungama Promo Marketing also merged with HDS to provide an engagement platform linked to online and offline deliveries.

    MUMBAI: Contract Advertising has brought on board Vineet Mahajan as head of art – India. Prior to this, Mahajan was heading McCann Erickson’s Delhi office as head of art. It would be his second stint at Contract after a gap of five years.

     

    Mahajan said, “Contract holds a special place for me and the new role will be far more challenging with lots of new opportunities. New city, new role, new place should be exciting.”
