    Comcast names Jeff Buzzelli as SVP of Comcast Business – Central Division

    MUMBAI: Comcast has appointed Jeff Buzzelli as senior vice president of Comcast Business for the company’s Central Division, headquartered in Atlanta.

     

    In this role, Buzzelli will be directly responsible for developing, facilitating and implementing strategies aimed at growing Comcast Business across 17 states from Michigan to Florida. 

     

    As a seasoned executive with two decades of experience in the telecommunications industry, Buzzelli was most recently senior vice president of Comcast Business for the company’s Northeast Division, where he led a team that delivered revenue growth of more than 25 per cent the past three years and led to growth of 500,000+ data customers.

     

    Prior to that, Buzzelli spent four years as vice president of Business Services for Comcast’s Greater Chicago Region, where he nearly tripled revenue while also expanding the company’s mid-market and enterprise presence. While there, he led the acquisition and integration of CIMCO Communications into the Chicago market, allowing the company to grow and compete more effectively. Buzzelli was twice recognized with the company’s prestigious President’s Club Award, and he and his team played an integral role in helping the Greater Chicago Region achieve “System of the Year” status in the company’s internal recognition program.

    Prior to his work at Comcast, Buzzelli held key leadership positions within sales, marketing and operations at AT&T, GTE/Verizon and Level 3 Communications and, before that, led several leading national and regional organizations focused on serving commercial customers.

He helped launch and build brands like Sports Illustrated, Travel + Leisure, Better Homes & Gardens and Maxim.

    Senior BSNL official being moved as Member (Finance) in Prasar Bharati

    NEW DELHI: Senior Indian Administrative Service Officer Rajiv Kumar Singh is expected to join the Prasar Bharati Board as member – finance early next week.

     

    Prasar Bharati sources told indiantelevision.com that Singh was being moved from the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL).

     

    With this, the source said that the list of permanent members in the Board will be complete as Suresh Chandra Panda assumed office late last month as member (Personnel).

     

    With this, the permanent members of the Board are CEO Jawhar Sircar, J S Mathur who is additional secretary in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, and director general F Sheheryar and C Lalrosanga of All India Radio and Doordarshan respectively who are ex officio members. Dr A Surya Prakash is chairman of the Board.

     

    Part-time members are filmmaker Muzaffar Ali and Professor S K Barua of the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad.

     

    It is learnt that the Selection Committee headed by Vice President Hamid Ansari is to meet shortly to fill the four vacancies of part-time members in the Board.

    MUMBAI: Razorfish has appointed AKQA’s Nick Turner as international creative director.

     

    The hire marks a substantial reinforcement to the existing creative teams established in international markets – Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy and UK.

     

    Turner is responsible for driving the highest creative standards and output while attracting, inspiring and retaining exceptional talent. He will continue to nurture and grow the world-class creative department for the UK office and will be a driving force in promoting experience led innovation throughout the agency’s international offices and for new and existing clients.

     

    Turner will report directly to Razorfish global chief creative officer Daniel Bonner.

     

    “It speaks volumes about the positive trajectory of our international markets that we’ve hired Nick to lead and coordinate their creative output. I’m incredibly proud of the best-in-class, award winning talent Razorfish is attracting. Nick brings his own unique abilities and experience to this role that will make it possible for us to push boundaries even further,” Bonner said. 

     

    Turner’s appointment is effective from 30 March. Prior to joining Razorfish, Turner spent 16 years at AKQA, joining as an art director in 1998 and progressing to executive creative director in 2011. Turner has amassed armfuls of UK, European and Global awards including a Cannes Cyber Lions Grand Prix.

    MUMBAI: Minority has appointed Rohit Malkani as its new chief creative officer. Malkani’s focus will be on shaping the creative culture of the agency and spearheading the agenda for disruptive work.

     

    Malkani’s last stint was at Publicis Singapore where he was regional creative director – Asia Pacific responsible for P&G and Citibank. Prior to that, he has led creative mandates across Grey India, Bates India, Publicis Ambience, JWT and even done a digital stint with PlanetAsia.

     

    In his 20 years across agencies, geographies, categories and consumer segments, Malkani has won numerous awards both for creative excellence and effectiveness.

    Turner International India appoints Rohit Bhandari as English entertainment head

    MUMBAI: Turner International India has roped in Rohit Bhandari as senior director and network head for its English entertainment portfolio that includes HBO and WB in South Asia.

     

    Bhandari will report to Turner senior vice president and managing director for South Asia Siddharth Jain. 

     

    Jain said, “We’re really pleased to have Rohit on board in this key position as we continue to grow our leadership in the English entertainment genre. With his well-established expertise and industry experience, I am confident he will help us build upon our success in the India and South Asia region.”

     

    In this role, Bhandari will be responsible for the growth strategy, planning and execution of all network functions including content acquisition, communications, marketing and brand building. 

     

    Bhandari’s appointment is effective immediately and he will be based at Turner’s office in Mumbai. He has over two decades of experience in television and advertising including overseeing business operations for AXN and Animax in India, as well as advertising sales in both India and Singapore. He previously led the media and entertainment vertical at Sahara India Capsac Limited.

    Two new part-time members appointed to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India

    NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology Professor Dr. M. Jagadesh Kumar and former National Human Rights Commission secretary general Rajiv Sharma have been appointed part-time members of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

     

    The two members will hold office for a period of three years from the date on which they assume office or until they attain the age of sixty-five years, whichever is earlier.

     

    Orders to this effect were issued in exercise of powers under the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act 1997.

     

    A TRAI source told indiantelevision.com that the two persons have been appointed as members of the Authority’s top decision-making unit, and therefore will not be given specific assignments of telecom or broadcasting.

     

    Meanwhile, TRAI has already advertised for filling the post of chairman as the term of Dr Rahul Khullar is ending on 14 May. The chairperson is appointed for a term of three years or until the age of 65, whichever is earlier.

    Walt Disney Parks & Resorts names Bob Chapek as chairman

    MUMBAI: Bob Chapek has been named chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

     

    A 22-year veteran of The Walt Disney Company, Chapek has served since 2011 as president of Disney Consumer Products, driving a technology-led transformation of the company’s consumer products, retail and publishing operations. He assumes his new role effective immediately.

     

    “Under Bob’s leadership, Consumer Products has seen great success, focusing on brands and a franchise-driven strategy while launching new products and retail experiences that combine technological innovation and creativity. He is an experienced and versatile executive well-suited to lead Parks and Resorts into the future,” said The Walt Disney Company chairman and CEO Robert A. Iger.

     

    As chairman of Parks and Resorts, Chapek succeeds Thomas O. Staggs, who was named Disney’s chief operating officer earlier this month. Chapek will report to both Iger and Staggs.

     

    “Bob is stepping into this role at an incredibly dynamic and exciting time for our Parks and Resorts business. The ongoing construction of Shanghai Disney Resort as well as the new Avatar-themed land at Walt Disney World continues an era of unprecedented growth and historic expansion,” Staggs said.

     

    “I am grateful for the many opportunities I have had during my years at Disney, and am thrilled to join the incredible Disney Parks organization.     A successor to Chapek at Disney Consumer Products will be named at a later date.

     

    Prior to leading Disney Consumer Products, Chapek served as president of distribution for The Walt Disney Studios from 2009 to 2011, and was responsible for overseeing the Studios’ overall content distribution strategy across multiple platforms including theatrical exhibition, home entertainment, pay TV, digital entertainment and new media. He also served as president of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, where he spearheaded the successful “vault strategy” for the company’s iconic films and transformed the primary format of home entertainment from DVD to Blu-ray.

     

    Before joining Disney in 1993, Chapek worked in brand management at H.J. Heinz Company and in advertising at J. Walter Thompson.

    MUMBAI: MEC India has appointed Mukti Kumaran as its west head. Prior to joining MEC, she was heading the Mumbai branch at IPG Media Brands-BPN. Based out of Mumbai, Kumaran will report to MEC India managing director T Gangadhar.

    Kumaran has been a media professional for over 18 years and brings with her a rich experience in strategic planning, buying and new business development.
