    MediaCom bolsters leadership team with key appointments

    New Delhi: MediaCom has strengthened its senior leadership with the appointment of Shekhar Sharma as managing partner (north and east) and Averill Sequeria as chief product officer.

    In his new role, Sharma will be responsible for the offices, clients, and growth. An accomplished Integrated marketing professional, Sharma has experience in managing large media investments from global clients to large Indian conglomerates across different verticals.

    “With over 25 years of diversified experience in media and marketing, his expertise ranges from crafting a media strategy, bringing in an insights-based approach to sharpen the strategic planning and deliver ROI for clients,” said the agency in statement.

    In his previous stint as a vice president for platform services in GroupM, he has been instrumental in spearheading a digital-first approach for brands varying from global to large Indian conglomerates and mid-sized businesses.

    Whereas, GroupM alumni Sequeira will lead ‘Seeing the Bigger Picture’, a MediaCom Creative Systems wherein they use the power of data to bring together media and creativity.

    “She is an original thinker, working to bridge the worlds of data, digital media, strategy, and creativity. Her formative years were spent in developing audience insight tools and specialising in Marketing ROI/econometric modelling. In this decade of digital transformation, she has passionately championed the customer experience journey, with creative solutions using data and technology,” stated the agency.

    Doordarshan appoints C. Lalrosanga as interim DG

    NEW DELHI: Veteran broadcaster C. Lalrosanga has been appointed as the interim director general of Doordarshan following the retirement of Vijayalakshmi Chhabra.

     

    Until now, Lalrosanga was holding charge as additional director general in All India Radio.

     

    Chhabra had been named the interim DG of Doordarshan in July 2014. She had earlier been ADG Programmes in AIR.

     

    Prasar Bharati sources told indiantelevision.com that the process of appointing a final DG will be undertaken as soon as the four vacancies of part-time members of the Prasar Bharati Board are filled.

     

    According to DD sources, contenders for the post of DG include current interim AIR DG F Shehryaar, Aparna Vaish, Deepa Chandra, Dr Rajshekhar Vyas, Mukesh Sharma and Mahesh Joshi.
     
    Lalrosanga has rich and diverse experience in broadcasting, both in sound and visuals.

     

    One of the most onerous tasks await the interim DG as he has taken charge of the public broadcaster in challenging times, especially considering the proposed launch of the ‘Kisan Channel’.

     

    Other tasks include four channels for the north eastern region and increasing the growth of DD‘s direct to home Freedish service.

     

    Lalrosanga joined the North eastern service of All India Radio (NES) Shillong as director after getting selected by Union Public Service Commission in 1991. Prior to that, he was assistant news editor (ANE) at AIR in Aizawl.

    MUMBAI: WPP’s global communications company, tenthavenue, has appointed Sudipto Roy as CEO of Emerging Markets, covering Asia, Africa, Middle East and Turkey.

     

    Roy will lead tenthavenue across high growth established markets, including China, South East Asia, Hong Kong, South Africa, and drive tenthavenue’s expansion into new markets, including Turkey, Middle East and Japan.

     

    Based out of Singapore, Roy will begin his new tenure in mid-April. Roy spent a significant part of his career in various leadership roles within Mindshare across India, APAC and Africa. These include chief client officer, chair of the Product, Service and Partnerships council, and as client lead for Unilever across APAC, Africa and Turkey, where he played a key role in global leadership of the account.

     

    In the last two years, he spearheaded the partnership drive at Mindshare across diverse domains such as big data, mobility, emerging consumer marketing, content and word of mouth marketing, marketing data and visualisation technologies, as well as orchestrating the creation of new products and revenue streams.

    Partha Thakur appointed as Essel Vision non-fiction head

    MUMBAI: Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (Zeel) has announced the appointment of Partha Thakur as non-fiction programming head for Essel Vision Productions. He will take charge from 3 November.

    Zeel is looking at strengthening its content and develop different genres of production. Thakur will report to Essel Vision Productions business head Akash Chawla. With over 15 years of experience in media and entertainment, he has produced content for broadcasters such as Zee TV, Star plus, Star World, Sony Entertainment Television, Colors, MTV, Sun TV, Vijay TV, NDTV, Pogo, Disney Network, UTV and Fox Traveler.

    He has worked with Wizcraft Television, Miditech Productions, Optimystix Entertainment, Searchlight Productions and MTV India. He has worked on multiple seasons of shows such as Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, Indian Idol, Fame Gurukul, IIFA Awards, GIMA Awards, Apsara Awards, Zee Rishtey Awards, Dare to Dance, amongst others.

    Thakur has also worked on shows in South Africa, Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Sri Lanka. His last assignment was at Sol Productions as the non-fiction head and creative director.

    Essel Vision’s objective is to be a one-stop shop for all film, television, digital, events and IP creation related services where it will produce, co-produce, market and distribute.

     

  • Dr Kasturirangan Appointed Academician of Pontifical Academy of Sciences

    MUMBAI: Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Dr K Kasturirangan, Member of Rajya Sabha and Director, National Institute of Advanced Sciences and, former Chairman of ISRO, as an Academician of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.

    The Pontifical Academy was founded in Rome on August 17, 1603 to promote the progress of mathematical, physical and natural sciences and the study of epistemological problems relating thereto. The academicians are chosen on the basis of their eminent original scientific studies and of their acknowledged moral personality, without any ethnic or religious discrimination, and are nominated for life by sovereign act of the Holy Father.

    This international and interdisciplinary scientific body is subject to the direct authority of the Supreme Pontiff. The academicians will contribute to the activities of the Academy and attend its Plenary Session during October-November every two years and participate in other scientific matters organised by the Academy.

    Dr Kasturirangan has made immense contribution to the Indian space programme including the development of launch vehicles and satellite technology, application in the areas of remote sensing, communications and education that have greatly benefited the society.

    The Pontifical Academy has about 90 Academicians of which 29 are Nobel Laureates. Dr Kasturirangan is only the fourth Indian to be appointed to the Academy after Dr C V Raman, Prof M G K Menon and Prof C N R Rao.

    The Holy Father will present Dr Kasturirangan the insignia of his appointment at a solemn pontifical audience sometime in the near future.
