    Srinivas appointed managing director, LiquidThread APAC & chairman SMG India

    MUMBAI: Starcom MediaVest Group has appointed CVL Srinivas as MD of LiquidThread APAC and Chairman of Starcom MediaVest Group, India.

    Based in New Delhi, Srinivas will take charge with effect from 5 January.

    Srinivas will report to SMG president, global operations Andrew Swinand and LiquidThread, SMG president and managing director Brian Terkelsen. He will also work closely with Srikant Sastri, Country Chair, VivaKi India and will be a member of the SMG global management group.

    Said Andrew Swinand, “We are delighted to have found an extraordinary leader for SMG India and for our growing LiquidThread operations in APAC. Srini brings with him nearly two decades of business experience and we are excited about him being part of the SMG family. We are confident that he will make a strategic difference to our India business and drive the Human Experience Company philosophy.”

    On his new role, Srinivas said, “SMG‘s promise to be the Human Experience Company is fascinating and future-focused. I look forward to working closely with the teams at LiquidThread and SMG to translate this vision into tangible value for our clients”.

    Earlier Srinivas has worked in agencies such as Madison Media and Maxus. His latest assignment was at The Times Group as Director, Private Treaties.

    TNS restructures operations in APAC region

    MUMBAI: Custom research company TNS has restructured its operations in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

    Under the new structure, Singapore will become the APAC regional headquarters. This will be followed by the re-organisation of TNS operations in Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa into two separate regions: TNS Africa and Middle East (AME) and TNS Asia Pacific (APAC).

    Said CEO Africa, India and Oceania Chris Riquier, “This structure responds to feedback provided to us by clients and staff; it will allow us to be more dynamic and responsive to the many opportunities and challenges presented by this exciting growth region.”

    According to the company, the new structure was created to reflect the differing needs of APAC‘s diverse markets, increase the level of focus on clients, improve efficiency and take advantage of Singapore‘s status as the regional hub for global clients and the headquarters location for many Asian companies.

    Chris Riquier, currently CEO Africa, India and Oceania, will become CEO Asia Pacific effective from 1 January next year. He will be joined by Heather Payne as CMO and supported by Neerja Wable who, in addition to her responsibility as India and Sri Lanka CEO, will focus on APAC client development.

    Reflecting the importance of China and Indonesia as rapid growth markets, Serene Wong, (CEO China) and Raghavan Srinivasan will report directly to the APAC CEO.

    While Hamish Munro has been appointed as managing director of Singapore, Wade Garland (CEO Hong Kong) will assume line management for Taiwan led by Manny Inocencio. Ralf Matthaes will oversee Vietnam and Malaysia while Grant Bertoli will oversee Thailand and the Philippines. Yazid Jamian (MD Malaysia) and Gary de Ocampo (MD Philippines) will report to Ralf and Grant respectively.

    APAC will be led by a five member board comprising Chris Riquier (CEO), Paul Durant (CFO), Heather Payne (CMO), Michelle Griffin (CTO) and Neerja Wable (CEO India and Sri Lanka) supported by Chairman Jamie Hall.

    Telenity provides location-based services to BSNL

    MUMBAI: Telenity, a provider of next generation converged services platforms and applications for communications networks, will be providing location-based services (LBS) solution to India’s state-owned telecom giant, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) through its partner Tier 1 network equipment providers (NEPs).

    Telenity provides its Canvas LES, Location Enabling Server, and 14 location-based services to BSNL that will enable the operator to offer personalised value added location-based services to its mobile customers. This highly scalable location solution will serve BSNL network infrastructure expected to grow from approximately 14 million to 70 million subscribers, and is expected to support world’s largest deployment to date.

    “Location-based value added services are absolutely essential for carriers to effectively compete and differentiate in the wireless marketplace. Worldwide carrier revenues from location-based services are expected to climb from a little less than $1 billion in 2005 to nearly $8.5 billion by 2010,” said Telenity CEO Dilip Singh.

    “Our converged location and presence solution supports complete and total privacy of location-based services across any network. It not only increases BSNL’s enhanced service offerings and ARPU, but just as significantly, enables BSNL to aggressively pursue a wide variety of new business models, including resale and revenue sharing options. This deployment shows Telenity’s commitment to serve one of the fastest growing telecom markets in the world,” he added.

    Telenity’s LBS solution is a crucial part of BSNL’s expansion of its GSM/GPRS digital wireless network in the south, east and north zones of India. It includes Telenity’s Canvas LES, which ensures subscribers can easily find, locate or monitor phones and other assets based on their geographic position, points of interest and securely fine-tune their privacy profile on the fly when they want it and 14 location-based services including:

    Real Time Fleet and Asset Management – enables enterprises to locate, monitor and manage their mobile assets and employees in a secure way using a simple Web browser.

    Friend Finder – alerts subscribers when one of their friends in their buddy list is in close proximity to their location or vice versa.

    Mobile Yellow Pages – allows subscribers to get the location of the closest service point of their interest.

    City Sightseeing – provides subscribers with the location information of a place of interest – restaurant, museum, theater, park, etc.

    Telenity’s LBS solution is developed utilizing the Canvas service creation environment, telephony applications server and service delivery gateway. Telenity’s LBS solution is the most comprehensive and advanced in the world today and is positioned for VAS in IP Multimedia Subsystem enabled and 3G networks.

    India is among the fastest growing telecommunications markets in the world. In a country of over one billion people, teledensity now stands at about eleven percent or around 120 million people. This figure is expected to grow to 30 per cent by 2010, according to the Department of Telecommunications of India.
