    Twitter initiated APAC business leadership summit #TwitterUdaan

    MUMBAI: Twitter launched its first business leadership summit in Asia titled #TwitterUdaan in Gurgaon. The summit brought together approximately 200 industry leaders over thought-provoking presentations and panel discussions on the theme of #FutureForward.

    Along with Twitter’s executives, other representatives present at the inaugural forum were from Future Brands, Group M, HDFC Life, Ogilvy & Mather, OLX, PepsiCo, Starcom, Tata Motors, Unmetric, Vodafone India, Yes Bank, and Yu.

    #TwitterUdaan was punctuated with the launch of Twitter’s first-ever #TwitterInfluencerIndex, a study to understand the effects of C-Suite engagement, who are the top CEOs on Twitter are and what constitutes their success on the influential communications platform. The index highlighted the 100 top C-suite executives on Twitter from around the world. The various leaders were Mahindra Group chairman and MD Anand Mahindra, Kotak Mahindra Band executive vice chairman and MD Uday Kotak, Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal, Flipkart executive chairman and founder Sachin Bansal, Olacabs.com co-founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal, Snapdeal.com co-founder and CEO Kunal Bahl and InMobi founder and CEO Naveen Tewari.

    “India is the growth engine for Asia-Pacific on Twitter. We are committed to India and the launch of #TwitterUdaan is about celebrating the creativity and innovation from India. The time is ripe for India to lead innovation and we want to help them soar and leverage Twitter in the digital age,” said Twitter VP International markets Shailesh Rao. “CEO participation on Twitter leads to better communication and it is heartening to see India account for nearly 50 percent of Asia Pacific C-suite executives listed in the #TwitterInfluencerIndex.”

    The summit was focused on five big trends of 2016 i.e. live, video, disruption innovation, content marketing, data, and media-first. The opening keynote on ‘Future is Live’ was presented by Twitter managing director of Southeast Asia, India, Middle East and North Africa Parminder Singh who opened up the floor for engaging conversations with his presentation on Twitter’s live connection to culture.

    Following to that was an engaging fireside chat between FutureBrands India MD Shailesh and CEO Santosh Desai on how brands need to build authentic relationships with their customers.

    Global Brands and Agencies VP Jean-Philippe (JP) Maheu took the audience through content best practices in ‘Future is Content’ and provided insight on how to engage a customer, hold their attention and why video and media-rich content always wins on the platform.

    Brand Strategy Asia Pacific head Steven Kalifowitz challenged advertising norms, showcased case studies and ideas that stood out of the clutter, and asked brands to think out-of-the-box using innovative, disruptive strategies in ‘Disruptive Innovation’.

    Guest speaker Unmetric CEO and co-founder Lakshmanan Narayan presented a data-driven future showing how brands can use data to drive social media accountability and business outcomes.

    While Twitter Asia Pacific and emerging markets senior director product specialist Maya Hari presented on a media-first future how we are now living at a time where media is increasingly live, interactive, and visual. This led to a thought-provoking panel discussion with guest speakers from CNBC TV18, PepsiCo, Tata Motors and The Economist on how being media-forward is not an option anymore.

    Dileep Ashoka joins McCann to head South India operations.

    MUMBAI: Dileep Ashoka has joined McCann to head South India operations.  He is credited with establishing McCann’s significant presence in the south region during his earlier stint with McCann before he took a break from advertising for personal reasons.

    Announcing Dileep’s appointment McCann Worldgroup India chairman APAC and CEO Prasoon Joshi said, “I am delighted to have Dileep back in the McCann family. He is an organisation builder and I am sure he will take our south operations to newer heights.”

    McCann vice chairman and MD Partha Sinha shared his joy about the decision, “It’s great to have Dileep back in the system. South is strategically important for us and having someone as reputed as Dileep coming back here is really significant. I am looking forward to this office doing great things under his leadership.”

    Commenting on this appointment Dileep said,”Ït is a matter of great pride and joy for me to return to McCann after a few years away from the industry. The sentiment is old but the task, team and challenges are new. This is a heady mix and I am looking forward to my new stint”.

    Dileep is an advertising veteran. A Bangalore University alumni, he has been one of the key architects of some significant brands like TVS, Britannia, Tata Tea and ITC foods to name a few. He is an accomplished percussionist, is passionate about the business and a great team builder.

    MUMBAI: Publicis Media Asia Pacific regional CEO  Gerry Boyle  has announced market leadership appointments for the APAC region.

    Responsible for oversight of Publicis Media’s operations in their respective markets, these appointments will leverage the scale and capabilities of its global agency brands Starcom, Zenith, Mediavest | Spark and Optimedia | Blue 449.

    APAC Publicis Media Market CEOs will be reporting to Boyle including Publicis Media Greater China (China, Hong Kong, Taiwan) CEO Bertilla Teo, Publicis Media India CEO Anupriya Acharya, Publicis Media Singapore CEO Gareth Mulryan and Publicis Media Australia and New Zealand CEO, Matt James.

    In addition to the Market CEO appointments, Chris Nolan is appointed COO of Publicis Media Australia and New Zealand, and Mykim Chikli is appointed COO of Publicis Media Greater China.

    Discovery APAC EVP & GM – South Asia Rahul Johri quits

    MUMBAI: After a stint spanning 15 years, Discovery Networks Asia? Pacific executive vice president (EVP) and general manager (GM) South Asia Rahul Johri has stepped down from his post with effect from 24 February, 2016.

    However, Johri will continue to work with Discovery till the end of the year as senior advisor to Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific president and managing director Arthur Bastings.

    In the meanwhile, Discovery has commenced the search for Johri’s replacement. In the interim period, Bastings will additionally manage the South Asia business and day-to-day affairs from India.

    In his 15-year stint with Discovery, Johri was in charge of the South Asia region for eight years. 

    Bastings said, “We are fortunate and grateful to have had a leader of Rahul’s calibre and vision. At the helm, he created an unmatched portfolio that is immensely valued by viewers and trade partners. As we pick up where Rahul left off, India remains one of our most important growth markets. Coupled with its digital transformation and a massive population of millennials hungry for content, we are excited about the opportunities ahead and have aggressive plans to sharpen and enhance Discovery’s product palette to whet the ever-increasing appetite of this demographic.”

    Johri added, “I have had the good fortune to work in one of the finest media companies in the world. After 15 years with Discovery, I believe it is time for me to explore new opportunities. I am confident that the current management team under Arthur’s strong leadership will continue to fuel Discovery’s growth in the region.”

    Some of his achievements during his tenure include tripling the channel portfolio to 11 distinct brands, strengthening Discovery’s factual entertainment programming while developing new genres like lifestyle and kids content, launching a new Hindi entertainment channel and creating a premium viewing experience through its three high-definition channels.
