    Wolverine actor to play legendary pirate Blackbeard in upcoming film

    Hugh Jackman, the Academy Award nominated actor, is in negotiations to play the legendary villainous pirate Blackbeard in Warner Bros upcoming feature film on the origin of J.M. Barrie’s classic creation Peter Pan, tentatively titled, Pan.

     

    Joe Wright (Anna Karenina) is directing Pan from a script by Jason Fuchs (Ice Age: Continental Drift) with Greg Berlanti (Arrow, Brothers & Sisters) serving as producer. The role was reportedly originally offered to Javier Bardem, who ended up passing on the project.

     

    In this film, Blackbeard will be Pan’s main antagonist, while Captain Hook serves as an ally. Hugh Jackman was recently seen sharing screen space with Academy Award winner, Jake Gyllenhaal in the critically acclaimed eerie psychological abduction thriller, Prisoners. Jackman had been in discussions for a handful of films before committing to Pan including the antagonist in Warner Bros “The Incredible Mr. Limpet” remake.

     

    As to who will play the titular character of Peter Pan, Warner Bros is expected to do an open casting and find a discovery for the role.

    MUMBAI: British filmmaker Joe Wright may soon be directing a Peter Pan movie for the Warner Bros. studio.

     

    Wright has been known for his period pieces starring Keira Knightley, is in talks to direct the origin movie. Scripted by the Jason Fuchs, an actor-turned-writer who penned Ice Age: Continental Drift, the movie will be a take on the Peter Pan myth.

     

    It is learned that Warner Bros is very high on the project and Sarah Schechter is overseeing and making it one of its priorities.

     

    With this, Wright seems to be taking all the interesting choices — from romantic and tragic period dramas like Pride & Prejudice, Atonement and Anna Karenina to off-beat action movie Hanna.

    Fifteen films hog ADG excellence awards nominations

    MUMBAI: Fifteen films, divided among three different categories, have been nominated for the 17th annual Art Directors Guild (ADG) Excellence in Production Design Awards. The nominees were announced on Wednesday.
    The nominees for best period design include four entries that depict life in the 19th century — Anna Karenina, Django Unchained, Les Miserables and Lincoln — as well as Argo.
    In the contemporary film category, the fight is between Flight, Skyfall, The Best Exotic Margiold Hotel, The Impossible and Zero Dark Thirty.
    Among the fantasy films, the ADG nominated Cloud Atlas, Life of Pi, Prometheus, The Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
    The honors recognize production design in nine categories of film, TV and commercials and music videos.
    The ceremony is set to take place on 2 February.

    Sarah Greenwood to be honoured for her work in Anna Karenina

    MUMBAI: Sarah Greenwood is to be honoured as production designer of the year at the Hollywood Film Awards for her work on Focus‘ Anna Karenina.
    A similar award was given to Greenwood four years ago when she was recognised for her contributions to both The Soloist and Sherlock Holmes.
    She has also been nominated three times for the Academy Award for best art direction – for Holmes, 2007‘s Atonement and 2005‘s Pride & Prejudice.
    Additionally, she won the Art Directors Guild‘s Excellence in Production Design Award for Holmes.
    The awards ceremony will take place 22 October.

    Knightley to play Anna Karenina

    MUMBAI: Keira Knightley, know for her films Pride & Prejudice and Atonement is set to star in Joe Wright‘s adaptation of the epic Leo Tolstoy novel Anna Karenina. She 26-year-old will be seen opposite Jude Law and Aaron Johnson in the film.
     
    “Joe Wright will direct the epic romance Anna Karenina, adapted from Leo Tolstoy‘s classic novel by Academy award winner Tom Stoppard. The film made under the banner of Working Title Films, will be filmed in the UK and Russia this month.
     
    Anna Karenina was published in 1873, the novel is considered one of the world‘s great pieces of literature and is the story of love within the Russian aristocracy.
     
    Knightley first came to national attention after starring in 2002 comedy drama Bend It Like Beckham and gained international recognition following her appearance opposite Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean.
