Adobe sets Firefly free with mobile app and AI-first moodboarding tools

MUMBAI: Your next masterpiece might just start on your phone with a text prompt. Adobe has just turbocharged its generative AI game with a major upgrade to Firefly, unveiling a new mobile app and an AI-powered moodboarding feature called Firefly Boards. The expansion, announced today, makes the creative playground more portable, collaborative, and multimodal than ever before bringing AI-assisted image and video generation to IOS and Android, while letting teams co-create across media in real time.

With over 24 billion AI-generated assets and traffic up 30 per cent quarter-over-quarter, Firefly is fast becoming Adobe’s flagship for idea-to-execution creativity. The mobile app allows users to generate and edit high-quality images and videos on the fly, with tools like Text to Image, Text to Video, Generative Fill, and Generative Expand. Users can mix and match AI models from Adobe’s own to those by OpenAi, Google, Luma Ai, Pika, Ideogram, Runway, and Black Forest Labs directly within the app or Firefly Boards.

The Firefly Boards feature, now in public beta, is a slick new workspace for creative teams to develop concepts at scale. Think moodboards that breathe, creators can remix video clips, generate new visuals, or use conversational prompts to fine-tune visuals collaboratively.

More than just eye candy, Firefly also embeds Content Credentials into AI-generated assets, helping creators track origins and safeguard their rights. Adobe’s ecosystem-first approach now lets assets flow seamlessly from mobile to web to desktop, syncing with Creative Cloud apps like Photoshop and Premiere Pro.

Adobe says the new capabilities support everything from text-to-vector logo design to soon-to-launch features like text-to-avatar and AI-generated sound effects all from a single, intuitive interface.

Adobe CTO Ely Greenfield put it, “Our goal with Firefly is to give creators a one-stop shop for generative tools across mobile and web.”

With first-time Firefly subscribers up 30 per cent, and paid subscriptions nearly doubling, the platform isn’t just growing, it’s blazing ahead. The Firefly app is now live on App Store and Google Play, while Firefly Boards can be accessed via the web for Creative Cloud users.

In a world where creativity rarely waits for a desk, Firefly’s new wings let ideas take off from anywhere and turn sparks of inspiration into full-blown visuals in minutes.

  • It’s raining new NextGen TV sets & receivers at CES 2025

It’s raining new NextGen TV sets & receivers at CES 2025

MUMBAI: There is a lot of excitement in the US about NextGen TV or TV broadcasts based on the ATSC 3.0 standard.  With 76 per cent of U.S. households now able to receive the signals,  America’s local TV broadcasters are hailing the introduction of new ATSC 3.0 receivers that will first be shown at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The affordable options will add to consumer choice, from high-end NextGen TV sets to affordable accessories that can transform Android and Fire TV devices already in consumer homes.

“We are very excited about the expanded offerings from accessory device manufacturers for NextGen TV. The new low-cost Atlanta  DTH (ADTH) USB receiver, powered by Tolka, is built for existing Android and Fire TV televisions and will, at a very affordable price, expand the reach of NextGen TV into homes who already have those sets. ADTH is also about to introduce a new model that works without an internet connection and will be doing a software update for deployed ADTH devices to give them the same functionality. In addition, Zinwell is adding pause functionality to their accessory device, with an add-on hard disc drive. In 2025, RCA is also coming to market with two new NextGen TV sets that will join TV options already available from Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, Hisense, and TCL,” said Pearl TV managing director Anne Schelle. “We congratulate all of the manufacturers who are selling thousands of receivers each day to consumers looking for the best possible video and audio quality from local stations.”

Pearl TV is a business organisation of US broadcast companies with a shared interest in exploring forward-looking broadcasting opportunities, including innovative ways of promoting local broadcast TV content and developing digital media and wireless platforms for the broadcast industry. Pearl’s membership, comprising more than 820 TV stations, includes eight of the largest broadcast companies in America: Cox Media group, Graham Media group, Gray Television, Hearst Television, Nexstar Media group, Sinclair Broadcast group, the E.W. Scripps, and Tegna.

Broadcasters are loading up new services with new features for NextGen TV viewers, including interactive gaming options that will be launched by GameLoop.

GameLoop TV launches next week in Las Vegas on local NextGen TV channel 3.2 and will bring gaming directly to viewers with no additional hardware or subscriptions required. At the heart of GameLoop’s innovation is the channel’s exciting “play now” feature, which allows NextGen TV viewers to instantly play games showcased on the channel simply using their TV remote or mobile phone.

“We also salute TV broadcasters Gray and Sinclair, who are working to bring fun, interactive gaming to the living room through GameLoop – a service that utilises NextGen TV for web-based family fun that will work seamlessly with millions of installed NextGen TV sets. Easy interactivity is literally going to be a game-changer for viewers,” Schelle predicted.

High Dynamic Range (HDR) functionality is now live on more than 200 local NextGen TV services throughout the US , with more being added to enhance viewing of key sports games and other spectacles.  Broadcasters are promoting the advantages of NextGen TV this sports season on stations throughout the country and plan to continue these promotions as they continue to rollout HDR and Dolby Atmos services nationwide.

A holiday promotion effort in NextGen TV markets that began before December continues through early February, with broadcasters now indicating onscreen to viewers when local NextGen TV programming is available in HDR.

“We’re very excited to announce that broadcast stations throughout the country are adding HDR10+ capability in their NextGen TV broadcast services to accommodate a broad array of TV manufacturers. With other flavors of HDR that also may be present in the service, this allows every receiver to present the best picture possible, showing that local television just keeps getting better and better, which is exactly what we promised with the rollout of NextGen TV services,” Schelle said. In addition to providing better video quality through HDR, many markets are adding Dolby Atmos audio coding, which delivers immersive audio capability.

“HDR began for sports with the Kentucky Derby last spring. It really made the Olympic Games pop with brilliant video. We know that sports is a big driver for buying new TV sets as well as for enjoying broadcast services — your favorite games look even better in High Dynamic Range,” Schelle said.

Throughout the country, local stations not already broadcast on over-the-air ATSC 3.0 transmissions are gaining access to NextGen TV viewers through the innovative addition of more channels through broadcast internet protocol – or broadcast IP. These additional channels are available as NextGen TV channels and have added more choices for viewers in a range of markets, from public to commercial broadcasters who now have their programming available for NextGen TV viewers.

Consumers can easily find details of what NextGen TV services are available in their markets by visiting WatchNextGenTV.com, a resource maintained by Pearl that lists individual services by market and a full range of more than 90 NextGen TV receivers and antenna products certified to work seamlessly with the new services.

3SS CPO & CMO Pierre Donath said, “It’s truly wonderful to be back at IBC, and have the chance to see our industry colleagues from around the world, and to explore how together we can make entertainment more simple and personal for everyone,” he commented.

He further added, “This is a milestone year for 3SS: we’re super excited to showcase our latest deployments and enabling technologies that help operators provide their customers with experiences that they really love, and to celebrate our collaborations with over 100 ecosystem partners, on our bigger-than-ever IBC exhibit.”

“Our theme this year is ‘It’s A Match!’ and we really look forward to welcoming IBC visitors to our stands and helping operators discover the products and solutions that perfectly match their business needs for powering their next-generation entertainment platforms,” he added.

The ever-expanding 3Ready product platform was created to assist operators in accelerating time-to-market, delivering a unified experience across all devices, launching revenues, and rapidly innovating while avoiding technology vendor lock-in.

3Ready is now enabling next-generation video experiences for over 20 major operators around the world, with a combined reach of more than 35 million households. The 3Ready Entertainment Ecosystem enables service providers to fully exploit 3Ready’s flexibility, which is enabled by its underlying architecture. 3Ready works seamlessly with the backend, revenue protection, recommendation engine, STB, and other system elements of the operator’s choice thanks to its extensive pre-integration options. Uncertainties in technology are eliminated, allowing providers to focus on providing excellent service.

3SS reimagines in-car entertainment at IBC

For the first time, 3SS will present the future of in-car digital entertainment at IBC. The company has brought a “Polestar 2” car to Amsterdam and parked it outside the exhibit area, inviting visitors to take a seat and experience its 3Ready-powered automotive experience, which is based on the Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS).

In-vehicle displays, in addition to all of the familiar screens, are the next touchpoints for enjoying video entertainment on the go. 3Ready enables operators and automobile manufacturers to add entertainment to any in-car infotainment system. UX can be adjusted and targeted dynamically, with the ability to curate all content, including third-party apps. The end result is superior entertainment and enjoyment for all occupants of the vehicle. To date, 3SS has two projects with automobile manufacturers.

All-new 3Ready Control Centre takes centre stage

3Ready Control Center 3.0 is a new SaaS experience management solution from 3SS. With this centralised, one-stop solution that is highly visual and intuitive, anyone can curate a highly personalised and unified experience across all screens. 3Ready Control Center allows more members of an operator’s content curation and marketing teams to easily target, manage, and visually optimise UX to increase customer retention. Operators benefit from real-time management of all service and device apps’ content, features, and branding from a single unified location.

A/B testing is the most direct and powerful method of gauging viewer preferences, and it can be done with high automation, individually or by customer segment. Experiments with new features can be carried out quickly and with confidence, as can adaptations.

The dashboards of the 3Ready Control Centre have simple functions and navigation that do not require technical knowledge. This reduces reliance on technical specialists. Editors can make necessary UI/UX changes visually, and all of the operator’s apps will automatically retrieve and apply them without requiring any code changes. Consistent, stable, and scalable cross-device user experiences result, with significant time and effort savings.

3Ready Control Centre integrates seamlessly with any backend, recommendation, metadata, analytics, and advertising solution that an operator selects.

The benefits of holistic content discovery and recommendation benefit both super-aggregators and their customers. The 3Ready Control Centre allows you to curate content from any source, including third-party providers. The end result is a unified and personalised user experience across all screens. Operators gain greater utility and flexibility than ever before by managing all client apps, including connected TV brands, STBs, tablets, smartphones, in-car displays, and so on, in a streamlined, highly efficient manner.

Demos of the latest integrations for transformational UX

The 3SS booth (5.A83) will feature an unprecedented demonstration array of enabling technical integrations with world technology leaders. These include, among others:

Targeted advertisements: 3SS will demonstrate a solution integrated into the 3Ready platform that enables operators to quickly deploy linear ad insertion on OTT and hybrid STBs while providing their customers with a seamless ad experience (Live to Ad). It is independent of any ad solution or ad network and provides cross-device control over the advertising experience to enable ad-supported business models.

KAON, 3SS, and Green Streams: KAON, 3SS, and Green Streams have collaborated to develop a new pre-integrated end-to-end technology platform that will enable Tier 2 and medium-sized providers to quickly and affordably deliver super-aggregated video services based on Android TV. Green Streams’ TVaaS backend platform, powerful yet reasonably priced KAON Netflix Certified STB, and the advanced 3Ready UX comprise the new turnkey solution. Tier 2 and mid-sized providers can thus accelerate service launches and revenue growth.

Allente implements 3Ready Control Center 3.0 in collaboration with ContentWise: Nordic pay-TV behemoth Allente has become the first operator to deploy 3Ready Control Center 3.0. This project is a critical enabler of Allente’s next-generation super-aggregated TV services for Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland. Allente and its customers will also benefit from 3Ready Control Center 3.0’s seamless integration with ContentWise’s UX Engine (stand 5.C65). This technological combination boosts customer engagement by personalising user experiences in real time.

Tele2 AB’s new TV Hub Mini: A high-spec 4K dongle for OTT (over-the-top) TV, was developed in collaboration with 3SS and SEI Robotics Inc. (stand 5.F64). Subscribers enjoy a custom 3SS-engineered user experience powered by 3Ready in 3SS’ first major operator dongle deployment, which is based on Android TV OS. The SEI Robotics 4K dongle provides Netflix, as well as a variety of other streaming apps and TV channels.

ThinkAnalytics with 3SS : ThinkAnalytics and 3SS will debut their new pre-integrated solution that transforms UX testing and optimisation, assisting operators in increasing engagement and reducing churn. 3Ready Control Centre is now pre-integrated with Think360, ThinkAnalytics’ content discovery and analytics platform, enabling operators to deploy user experiences that maximise monetisation opportunities by leveraging data-driven continuous improvement. Editors, marketers, and curators do not require technical expertise, which reduces costs and accelerates time-to-market. Actionable insights enable operators to provide their customers with the entertainment UX they truly desire.

Meta expands Facebook Reels to over 150 countries globally

Mumbai: Meta has announced the availability of Facebook Reels for iOS and Android to more than 150 countries across the globe. The company is also introducing better ways to help creators to earn money, new creative tools and more places to watch and create Facebook Reels.

“Watching video is half of time spent on Facebook and Instagram, and Reels is our fastest growing content format by far. We’re focused on making Reels the best way for creators to get discovered, connect with their audience and earn money. We also want to make it fun and easy for people to find and share relevant and entertaining content,” said Meta in a statement.

Facebook Reels will be available in Feed, Groups and Watch. When viewing a reel, users can follow the creator directly from the video, like and comment on it or share it with friends. Meta is exploring ways to make it easier for creators to share Reels to both their Facebook and Instagram audiences, such as crossposting.

With this move, the company is creating a variety of opportunities for creators to earn money for their reels. The Reels Play bonus program, part of its $ one billion creator investment, pays eligible creators up to $35,000 a month based on the views of their qualifying reels. These bonuses have helped creators fund their reels creation and better understand what types of content works on Facebook. In the coming months, the bonus program will be extended to more countries.

Building on deep experience in helping creators earn meaningful income from its monetisation products like in-stream ads and Stars, Meta is also building direct monetisation options for Facebook Reels through ad revenue share and fan support.

“We’re expanding tests of Facebook Reels Overlay Ads to all creators in the US, Canada and Mexico, and to more countries in the coming weeks. We’re starting with two formats: banner ads that appear as a semi-transparent overlay at the bottom of a Facebook Reel, and sticker ads: a static image ad that can be placed by a creator anywhere within their reel. These non-interruptive ads enable creators to earn a portion of the ad revenue,” said the statement.

Any creator in the US, Canada and Mexico who is part of the in-stream ads program is automatically eligible to monetise their publicly-shared reels with ads. By mid-March, these tests will expand to creators in nearly all countries where in-stream ads are available.

Meta will also begin testing Stars on Facebook Reels in the coming weeks, so that people can buy and send them while watching reels to support creators. Both overlay ads and Stars are designed so that as more people view and engage with Reels on Facebook, creator payouts can grow.

Brand suitability controls, including Publisher Lists, Blocklists, Inventory Filters and Delivery Reports for Banner and Sticker Ads in Facebook will be launched shortly. Reels in every region they are available, give advertisers more control over how their ads appear in places they don’t consider suitable for their brand or campaign. The company has been testing full-screen and immersive ads in between Facebook Reels since last October, and will roll them out to more places around the world over the coming months. Just like with organic content on Facebook, people can comment, like, view, save, share and skip them.

In addition to the features announced last year, creators around the world will be able to access:

·Remix: Create their own reel alongside an existing, publicly-shared reel on Facebook.

·60-second Reels: Make reels up to 60 seconds long.

·Drafts: Create a reel and choose to “Save As Draft” below the Save button.

·Video Clipping: In the coming months, video clipping tools that will make it easier for creators who publish live or long-form, recorded videos to test different formats will be rolled out.

Over the coming weeks, following updates will be introduced to make it easier to create and discover reels in new places:

·Reels in Stories: Share public reels to Stories on Facebook, making it easy to share favourite reels with friends and giving creators more visibility and reach. Creators will also be able to create reels from existing public stories.

·Reels in Watch: Watch reels directly within the Watch tab. Tools to help create reels in the Watch tab are in the offing

·Top of Feed: New Reels label at the top of feed to easily create and watch reels in just a few clicks.

·Suggested Reels in Feed: Available in select countries, it will suggest reels that users may like in their Feed from people they do not already follow.

Since launching in the US last September, Facebook Reels has seen creators like Kurt Tocci (and his cat, Zeus) share original comedic skits, author and Bulletin writer Andrea Gibson offer a reading of their published poetry, Nigerian-American couple Ling and Lamb try new foods, and dancer and creator Niana Guerrero do trending dances, like the #ZooChallenge.
