    Fox starts live streaming prime time entertainment programmes

    MUMBAI: It’s one of the major broadcast networks in the US. But the Twenty First Century Fox owned Fox is now haring into live streaming its prime time entertainment programmes on its website and apps for mobile consumers, becoming the first US major to do so.

    The snag: viewers all over the US need a valid pay TV subscription – either cable TV or satellite and have to use their TV everywhere log in from the provider to be able to watch the live streams. Fox pointed out that around 96 million Americans using pay TV will have access to this service.

    The offer started with the hit series So You Think it Can dance: The next generation which users could watch on Fox.com and on Fox Now on their PCs, their iPhones, iPads, Android devices, Rokus, Kindle Fire, Apple TV and ChromeCast, simultaneously as live broadcast television.

    Local Fox affiliates could insert local market advertising and display station branding in the live streams.

    “From the start of the on-demand and over-the-top viewing revolution, Fox has been at the forefront of providing greater access to our buzz-defining shows, like “Empire,” “Lucifer, “Scream Queens” and “Family Guy,” said Fox Television Group chairman and CEOs Diana Walden and Gary Newman. “Adding nationwide primetime live streams is just another great example of how the Fox Digital Consumer Group, under Brian Sullivan’s leadership, is innovating to give viewers the convenience and flexibility to watch our programming whenever and wherever they want.”

The service shall soon be available across all iOS devices as well.

The new feature allows Eros Now subscribers to watch films when they have limited internet connectivity or low bandwidth while using the entertainment service. As part of the Premium subscription service, subscribers can now download movies from the service to their device for immediate viewing offline for as little as Rs.99 ($1.49) per month in India or $7.99 for international subscribers.     Virgin TV anywhere launches on Android devices

    MUMBAI: Virgin TV Anywhere recently launched a native app for Android tablets and smartphones.

     

    The application allows Virgin Media TiVo customers to programme on the move, with 67 channels available on mobile devices.

    To coincide with its Android launch, Virgin TV Anywhere has added nine new channels to its roster – Alibi, Dave, Drama, Good Food, Home, Really, Watch, Yesterday and CBS Reality.

     

    “With the arrival of these fantastic new channels, Virgin TV Anywhere is undoubtedly the market-leading service for those who want to take the best of their home entertainment with them to watch wherever they are at no extra cost,’ said Virgin Media director Scott Kewley in a report.

     

    The web-based version of Virgin TV Anywhere provides access to 90 channels, including BT Sport, ITV, Channel 5 and CBS Reality Premier Sport.

     

    Virgin TV Anywhere, which was previously released for iOS devices, is available to download from Google Play now.

    Time Warner Cable to offer live mobile TV for iOS

    MUMBAI: The Time Warner Cable (TWC) TV mobile app for iOS devices received an upgrade that now allows users to watch from anywhere some of the content which they predominantly viewed from home.

    Until recently, to watch any programming through the app, users had to have a connection to the TWC Wi-Fi router in one‘s home. With this service, if users are away from home, they can use any Wi-Fi hotspot and gain access to up to eleven live channels.

    The TWC TV app is free for Android devices, PCs, Macs and Roku Boxes, but at the moment it‘s only the iOS version that gets the “TV anywhere” upgrade.
