    TDSAT asks Eenadu TV to sign agreement with Kakinada MSO

    NEW DELHI: Noting that Andhra Pradesh based multi system operator (MSO) Sri Maruthi Digital Network cannot be described as a fly-by-night operator, the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Arbitration Tribunal (TDSAT) has asked Eenadu Television to send its representative to the Kakinada area from where the MSO operates to hold a joint sample survey of the petitioner’s SLR. 

     

    Sri Maruthi counsel Deenadayalayan presented to the Tribunal a copy of its application for a Digital Addressable Systems (DAS) licence.

     

    Adjourning the matter for 4 November and noting that Eenadu was prepared to sign an interconnect agreement, the Tribunal said the joint survey should be completed by 20 October.

     

    The parties may then execute the interconnect agreement on the basis of the joint survey report.

     

    The Tribunal said the application by the MSO ‘sufficiently shows that he intends to stay in the business.’

    MUMBAI: Eyeing a 40 per cent growth in turnover at more than Rs 1200 crore this year, home shopping network Shop CJ has expanded to the South Indian market with the launch of its Telugu language channel with original programming in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

     

    Additionally, the company is expecting to generate revenue of Rs 250 crore from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana alone by the next fiscal year 2016.

     

    The company’s recorded sales of Rs 850 crore last fiscal and is poised to grow with the rapid growth of the home shopping market in India. The channel reaches over 6.5 crore households across the country and is currently catering to about 40 per cent of the market.

     

    The new Telugu language Shop CJ channel is available across all major cable and will soon also hop on to the Sun Direct direct to home (DTH) platform.

     

    Shop CJ Network CEO Kenny Shin said, “The home shopping industry is growing rapidly and similar trend is witnessed in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh market. With the launch of 24×7 Telugu home shopping channel, we have begun the process of introducing region-specific niche channels. The Telugu channel will not only enhance our customer base, but it will also offer a great platform for regional brands to expand their penetration. We aim to offer new innovative product categories and change the entire home shopping experience.”

     

    Shop CJ Network CFO N. Ramakrishnan added, “Shop CJ’s channel launch in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will strengthen its presence in India. We are expecting to generate Rs 250 crore revenue from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana alone by the next fiscal year 2016.”

    Sun Distribution & Andhra MSO to mutually examine LCO subscriber base

    NEW DELHI: Multi system operators (MSOs) Sun Distribution Services and Andhra Pradesh’s Vaji Digital Network will jointly examine the latter’s local cable operator (LCO) subscriber base before the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Arbitration Tribunal (TDSAT) examines the issues between them.

     

    Both parties have informed the Tribunal that they decided on a joint inspection in a mutual meeting last week.

     

    The two MSOs also entered into an interim provisional agreement in connection with the signals.

     

    Listing the matter for 22 September, TDSAT said that it had framed issues in this matter on 18 August and directed Vaji to file its affidavit in evidence within three weeks time.    

     

    Earlier in May, Sun was directed by the Tribunal to enter into interim and provisional interconnect agreements to supply signals to Vaji Digital Network in Rajahmundry, which is not a Digital Addressable System (DAS) area.

    MUMBAI: Star Sports Pro Kabaddi League, which opened to packed stadiums through its first leg in Mumbai, has now set its sight on the south. In a move to captivate the southern market, it has roped in Telugu cinema’s reigning star Allu Arjun as its brand ambassador in the two Telugu states namely Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

     

    The actor, who has won multiple awards for his work, will promote the sport and the league for the millions of Kabaddi enthusiasts in the Telugu speaking states. The Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad will host the eight city franchise league from 4-7 August 2015.

    Work begins on new Vijayawada DD Kendra for Andhra Pradesh

    NEW DELHI: The Government yesterday confirmed that it had received a proposal to create an interim set-up at the regional kendra of Doordarshan in Vijayawada to cater to the cultural and economic identities of Andhra Pradesh following bifurcation of the state.

     

    Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar informed Parliament yesterday that the proposal had been received from the DD Kendra at Hyderabad to start, on an interim basis, a two hour terrestrial transmission from 5 pm to 7 pm everyday including a 15 minute Telugu news bulletin.

     

    The rest 22 hours will be relayed from DDK Hyderabad, since DDK Vijayawada is currently only a programme generating facility (PGF).

     

    Earlier, DD sources had told indianlevision.com that the aim would be to ultimately turn the Vijayawada Kendra into a 24-hour Kendra because the Hyderabad Kendra would become a part of the new state Telangana.

     

    Consequently, Doordarshan has started planning production and transmission facilities that are similar to its Kendra in Hyderabad.

     

    Doordarshan has already taken an initiative to upgrade the existing facilities of Doordarshan Kendra at Vijayawada which presently has one 150 square metre studio and a teleport satellite uplinking facility.

     

    Doordarshan director general Tripurari Sharan and additional director general VK Jain recently visited the Vijayawada Kendra and discussed widespread plan for its upgradation with engineering and programme officers. Sharan asked officers to fast-track its upgradation plan and complete it in a time bound manner, directing Jain to personally monitor the progress.

     

    The DD Saptagiri channel running from Hyderabad will be renamed DD Telangana and the DD Saptagiri channel will be retained for residual state of Andhra Pradesh.

    NEW DELHI: Bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh has forced pubcaster Doordarshan to start separate transmission of the channel. With Hyderabad becoming a part of the newly formed Telengana, regular transmission of two hours a day is to commence with immediate effect from the Doordarshan Kendra of Vijayawada to cater to the residual state of Andhra Pradesh.

     

    The transmission which currently will be from 5 pm to 7 pm every day, will later convert to being round-the-clock.

    Film soon on legendary actor-politician NT Rama Rao

    NEW DELHI: The legendary actor N T Rama Rao, who was also Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in the mid-eighties and was later succeeded after his demise by his son-in-law N Chandrababu Naidu, is to be immortalized in a new Telugu film based on his life.

     

    Titled Mahaganudu, the funds from the film will be donated for the development of the new capital of Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation.

     

    Director D Kumar Rajendra said: “We are adapting the life story of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao into a film. We will make it in such a way that it does not provoke any controversies or prejudices. The actor who will play the title role will be revealed soon.”

     

    “The revenue generated from this film will be donated to the development of the new capital of Andhra Pradesh. This is our way of contributing to the development of the state,” he added.

     

    The film will be jointly produced by Anil Sudhakar, N.B. Chowdhary and Krishna Rao. Mahaganudu has also been written by Rajendra.

     

    NTR, one of the pioneers of Telugu filmdom, also served as the Chief Minister of the state after he floated the Telugu Desam Party.

     

    The late NTR is one of the pioneers of Telugu film industry and starred in 274 Telugu films, 15 Tamil films and three Hindi films.
