    Amole Gupte replaces Nandita Das as CFSI chairperson

    MUMBAI: Amole Gupte has been chosen as the chairperson of the Children‘s Film Society of India (CFSI), according to the I&B Ministry. He replaces Nandita Das.

    Having met the I&B minister Manish Tiwary and accepted the offer earlier, Gupte received the official letter yesterday.

    With an experience in children‘s film (including Taare Zameen Par and his own directorial Stanley Ka Dabba), Gupte sees the new responsibility as an extension of his work.

    "I need to sort out my ideas about how I‘ll initiate my stint with the CFSI. My predecessor Nandita Das has been doing a very good job. The CFSI‘s recent film Gattu was exemplary. I hope to bring forth many more Gattus and Stanleys. But first let me catch my breath," Gupte has been quoted to have said.

    Art director Ashish Lakhia passes away

    MUMBAI: Art director Ashish Lakhia, aged 49, passed away in Ahmedabad on Sunday morning of multiple organ failure.

    Said a grieving actor – director Amole Gupte, “A lot more than just art director, Ashish was a painting prodigy as a child and, in fact, had inspired me to become a painter. His passing away is an irreparable loss for me.”

    Remembered for his art direction in Ketan Mehta‘s Holi, Mirch Masala and Maya Memsaab among others, where he worked in tandem with his mother Meera, Lakhia was brother of actor Aditya Lakhia aka ‘Kachra‘ of Lagaan and also a cousin of director Apoorva Lakhia.

    Besides being into art direction, Lakhia has also made many documentary films. Said Apoorva, “It‘s a pity that he was taken as only an art-house artiste. I only wish our industry had got him into the mainstream mould.”
