    Amazon Prime Video rolls out native macOS app

    Mumbai: Amazon Prime Video has announced the rollout of a native macOS app. The app will allow customers to stream and download Prime Video content on Macs for offline viewing. Mac users worldwide with Big Sur 11.4 and above can download the app for free from the Mac App Store starting 15 November, said the platform in a statement.

    The macOS app has been designed to deliver a streaming experience that is similar to the Prime Video website, but with slightly different capabilities that offer even more convenience to users. For example, the app will offer streaming over AirPlay, using Picture-In-Picture and the option to download movies and series for offline viewing (when available). Customers using the macOS app will also be able to use the search/browse functionality, as well as, fan-favourite features like IMDb’s X-ray, continue watching, watchlist, etc.

    Prime Video macOS app has the same content and language (20+ languages) offerings as the Prime Video iOS app and currently supports streaming in 1080p, with 4k support coming soon. It will be available in all the countries where Prime Video is available. Users will also receive automatic macOS app updates. The app supports several accessibility features currently available on Prime Video, including audio descriptions and VoiceOver support, said the statement.

    Prime Video macOS app users in India will be able to enjoy content in nine local languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi and Bengali, in addition to global content, and use three local user interfaces – Hindi, Telugu and Tamil, besides English.

    Mumbai: Amazon Prime Video and Excel Media and Entertainment have announced that the third season of Amazon original series “Inside Edge” will premiere globally on 3 December.

    “The International Emmys nominated series, Inside Edge was the first Indian Amazon Original that received immense appreciation, accolades and helped set a high bar for storytelling,” said Amazon Prime Video India head of India originals Aparna Purohit. “Replete with multiple twists and turns, the new season of Inside Edge has in store a lot more drama and mystery that will unravel through a riveting story and would impress fans and audiences alike in India and beyond.”

    The show has been created by Karan Anshuman and directed by Kanishk Varma, season three stars Vivek Oberoi, Richa Chadha, Tanuj Virwani, Aamir Bashir, Sayani Gupta, Sapna Pabbi, Akshay Oberoi, Sidhant Gupta, and Amit Sial.

    “The overwhelming response Inside Edge has received from viewers and critics alike has encouraged us to present yet another exciting season,” said Excel Entertainment producer Ritesh Sidhwani. “We are thrilled to chronicle the next gripping phase of the journey of Mumbai Mavericks, which will ultimately decide the fate of the team that has battled many odds.”

    Mumbai: Following the success of “Parasite” and “Minari,” Amazon Prime Video has launched a Korean content slate to capture the booming interest in Korean dramas (K-dramas) in genres like romance, mystery, thriller, and horror. Starting from 21 October, a repertoire of K-dramas will be available on the streaming platform.

    “Video streaming has brought a host of varied cultures into our living rooms. Users are now enjoying watching content from different regions of India and from around the world, finding resonance in stories, characters, and cultures,” said Amazon Prime Video India head of content licensing Manish Menghani.

    The shows launching on the service include “True Beauty,” which dwells on the classic makeover of a young high school girl, bullied for her appearance; “Strangers from Hell” that will transport the viewers to a dingy apartment building with shady neighbours and a series of mysterious events, and the new season of a high-octane action-packed series, “Taxi Driver” featuring Lee Je-Hoon and Esom. While the saga of the supernatural will continue with Lee Dong-Wook and Cho Bo-Ah starrer “Tale of the Nine Tailed,” “Hotel Del Luna” will introduce a mix of eeriness and a gripping plotline.

    Prime Video will continue to release Korean titles until the end of November. “The Penthouse: War in Life” season one to three will begin streaming on 28 October, followed by “Mr Queen” and “Secret Garden” on 4 November, “Voice” seasons one to four on 11 November, and “Doctors” whose release date is yet to be announced.

    “Korean content, in particular, has made significant inroads into India’s mainstream popular culture. Our users were highly appreciative of Korean films like ‘Parasite’ and ‘Minari’ on Prime Video – the films saw viewership from across the length and breadth of the country,” Menghani further said. 

    “The announcement marks our efforts to program for evolving consumer choices for immersive content. We will continue to curate a compelling library of content that is diverse, resonates with our audience, and gives them the choice to explore stories from around the world,” he added.

    Mumbai: Amazon Prime Video has announced its new original film “Sardar Udham,” which will begin streaming in October.

    “With every story that we present on Amazon Prime Video, we ensure that the narrative is replete with emotions and depth that finds a place in the heart of every viewer,” said Amazon Prime Video India director and head of content Vijay Subramaniam. “Continuing a great partnership with Rising Sun Films, we are proud to present Sardar Udham, a stirring story of courage, fortitude and fearlessness, from the buried treasures of our history and culture.”

    A heart-wrenching story of retribution, “Sardar Udham” showcases the journey of a gallant man who made sure the world never forgets the lives of his beloved brethren who were brutally killed in the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre of 1919.

    “It has been exhilarating to create this film that showcases and acknowledges Udham Singh’s patriotism and deep-rooted, selfless love for his motherland,” said producer Ronnie Lahiri. “Two decades worth of research and understanding has been put by the team to present this untold story. We are glad to continue our prolific collaboration with Amazon Prime Video and are thrilled to share this historical epic story with a global audience.”

    Prime Video rolls out Amazon original profile image feature in India

    Mumbai: In continuation of its recently launched global feature, Amazon Prime Video customers in India will now be able to take on the persona of their favourite character from Amazon India originals as their profile avatar on the streaming service.  

    Available on all devices that support Prime Video, the images can easily be used by customers to update their profiles. From Munna Tripathi in “Mirzapur” to Srikant Tiwari in “The Family Man”, Siddhi Patel in “Four More Shots Please” and Haathiram Chaudhary in “Paatal Lok”, and many more – viewers have an array of characters to choose from for their profile avatars.

    “Born out of deeply local and authentic narratives, our originals have introduced customers to characters that have not only become a part of pop culture but have also made their way into everyday lives,” said Amazon Prime Video India director of marketing Sushant Sreeram. “The launch of these avatars is just another way for us to enable fans to engage deeper with the shows and characters they love.”

    Mumbai: Amazon Prime Video scoops a massive win at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2021 which has announced its winners for the year. IFFM is the largest of-its-kind festival in Australia celebrating the best of Indian cinema in all its forms. The festival showcases a wide range of Indian content and encapsulates the best of entertainment from the Indian sub-continent.

    Amazon Original titles like the crime drama series “Mirzapur Season 2” has won in the category for ‘best web series’, Suriya Sivakumar and Vidya Balan have bagged the honors for ‘best performances in leading roles’ for their stellar acts in “Soorarai Pottru” and “Sherni” respectively. 

    Post the successful second season, The Family Man ‘Srikant Tewari’ has aced his TASC yet again with Manoj Bajpayee winning the award for ‘best actor (male) in a web series’. Marking her digital debut with this espionage thriller, Samantha Akkineni won the award for ‘best actor (female) in a web series’. In addition to this, the Malayalam family drama, “The Great Indian Kitchen” has earned recognition in the category of ‘equality in cinema (feature)’.

    On Soorarai Pottru’s big win, lead actor and producer of the film, Suriya said, “This film has been made with a lot of heart and to finally witness it getting recognised on a global platform is heartwarming and incredibly special. It’s a huge honour for us as a team and I am thankful to Amazon Prime Video for making the film reach audiences globally and my fans for showering so much love.”

    Samantha Akkineni shared, “The character of ‘Raji’ was one of the most layered and intense roles of my career that called for a lot of preparation and forced me to dig deep. I am thankful to Raj & DK for conceiving such a powerful female character and for being able to see me beyond the ‘cute girl’ image that many couldn’t look past.     Amazon Prime Video to livestream WNBA games in India

    Mumbai: Enhancing its portfolio of live sports streaming, Amazon Prime Video and the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) on Thursday announced that Prime members in India can live-stream WNBA games during the league’s historic 25th season with the next opportunity to watch in India on 21 August. The move follows a multi-year agreement between Amazon and the WNBA in May this year, giving Prime Video exclusive streaming rights in India to select league games each season of the agreement. 

    The WNBA games will mark the first live sports streaming experience for Prime Video viewers in India.

    “We are happy to bring the WNBA games to our viewers,” said Amazon Prime Video, India spokesperson, Chaitanya Divan. “We are confident that the world-class, friction-free live experience of the WNBA games on Amazon Prime Video will delight the growing base of basketball fans in India.”

    Prime members in India will have exclusive access to six games from the second half of the 2021 WNBA season, said the streaming platform in a statement.

    The season, which tipped off 5 May, is available with Prime Video streaming its next WNBA game between the New York Liberty and the Seattle Storm on 21 August followed by five other games. For the viewers who have missed out on the previous games, an entire replay will be available on the app in English, it added.

    Currently, in its 25th season, the WNBA is a bold, progressive basketball league that stands for the power of women. Featuring 12 teams, the WNBA is a unique sports property that combines competition and entertainment with a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and social responsibility. 

    “We are pleased to offer WNBA games to our fans in India through Amazon Prime Video,” said NBA India, head of global content and media distribution, Sunny Malik. “The collaboration will provide easy access to the games, expand our visibility and reach in the region and educate fans further about one of the most popular sports leagues in the world.”

    Schedule of six games airing on Prime Video during the second half of the 2021 WNBA season:

    2. 27 August –  Washington : Dallas – 4:30 a.m

    Suriya’s 2D Entertainment strengthens partnership with Prime Video

    Mumbai: Amazon Prime Video India has signed an exclusive deal with Suriya’s 2D Entertainment. As part of this collaboration, the next four Tamil movies from 2D Entertainment will premiere directly on Prime Video worldwide over the next four months.

    2D Entertainment’s upcoming titles will mark their direct-to-service world premieres on Amazon Prime Video.

    The line-up includes titles like ‘Jai Bhim’ (November 2021) – a legal drama starring Suriya along with Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, Lijomol Jose, Rajisha Vijayan and Manikandan. ‘Udanpirappe’ (October 2021) – a family drama starring Sasi Kumar, Jyotika, Samudrakani, Soori, Kalaiyarasan, Niveditha Sathish and Siddhu. ‘Raman Aandalum Ravanan Aandalum’ (September 2021) – a satire comedy drama starring Ramya Pandian, Vani Bhojan, Mithun Manickam and Vadivel Murugan.  ‘Oh My doG’ (December 2021) – a kid’s film starring Arnav Vijay, Arun Vijay, Vijay Kumar, Mahima Nambiar and Vinay Rai.

    “At Prime Video, we have one of the largest libraries of Tamil movies in the country,” said Amazon Prime Video director and head of content, Vijay Subramaniam. “This association comes on the back of the incredible love that 2D Entertainment’s Soorarai Pottru and Ponmangal Vandhal received from audiences worldwide. Our local language movies, over the past year, have broken viewership records to register 50 per cent of audiences outside their home state. International viewers accounted for up to 20 per cent of total audiences of local language direct-to-service films.”

    Mumbai: Amazon Prime Video had recently streamed the world premiere of much-anticipated films across multiple languages. Now, the OTT giant has revealed the viewing data of films, series titles that performed well within their premiere weeks so far this year. Leading the race is actor Farhan Akhtar’s boxing drama Toofan which becomes Prime Video’s most-watched Hindi film within the first week of its release globally.  

    Toofaan was watched by more customers on Prime Video India than any other Hindi film in its opening week. The film was viewed in over 3900+ towns and cities in India and in 160+ countries and territories across the globe, according to the data released by the streamer.
    Furthermore, in the local languages catagory, films ‘Narappa’ (Telugu), ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’ (Tamil), and ‘Malik’ (Malayalam), were each watched in over 3,200+ towns and cities in India and in over 150+ countries and territories globally.

    In the web shows category, ‘Hostel Daze (S2)’ emerged as one of the most loved shows amongst young adults within just a week of its launch, with viewership from 3,600+ towns and cities in India and from over 100+ countries and territories around the world.

    Amazon Prime Video India saw its best-ever viewership in the month leading up to Prime Day, with the highest number of streamers enjoying the content on the service, the streamer said in a statement. Prime Day 2021 marked the most Small Medium Businesses (SMBs) selling on Amazon.in ever, as they saw an overwhelming response from Prime members, it added.

    Mumbai: On the momentous day of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Amazon Prime Video has launched the trailer of an Amazon Original Movie ‘Shershaah‘. 
    The war drama is jointly produced by Dharma Productions and Kaash Entertainment.

    The trailer was launched in the presence of actors Sidharth Malhotra, Kiara Advani, director Vishnu Varadhan, producers Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Shabbir Boxwala, Amazon Prime Video director and head – content Vijay Subramaniam, general Y K Joshi, general officer commanding-in chief, Northern Command and chief of defence staff, general Bipin Rawat who had gathered at Kargil for Kargil Vijay Divas.

    Shershaah celebrates the unflinching courage and valor of Kargil War Hero, captain Vikram Batra (PVC), and is an ode to the relentless spirit and bravery of Indian armed forces.  

    The film will premiere across 240 countries and territories ahead of the Independence Day weekend on 12 August, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
