Studio Blo gets its Hollywood script with Chad Greulach in the frame

MUMBAI: Lights, camera… algorithm! India’s Studio Blo, the country’s pioneering AI film studio, is ready to roll on its biggest project yet, a Hollywood partnership with veteran producer Chad Greulach, whose credits stretch across Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and Discovery.

Greulach’s cinematic résumé is no small scroll, he’s worked with names that light up marquees and arenas alike: Leonardo DiCaprio, Snoop Dogg, John Legend, Lenny Kravitz, Gene Simmons and Criss Angel, to name a few. Now, he’s stepping into the world of AI storytelling with Studio Blo to craft original entertainment IPs for the American market where human creativity meets machine precision.

The partnership will see the duo co-develop AI-powered stories and content for studios, music labels, channels and brands, while also expanding Faimous, Studio Blo’s AI-led celebrity IP engine into Hollywood. The move aims to merge AI’s creative horsepower with star-driven storytelling, opening new frontiers in how celebrity and content intersect.

For Studio Blo, the announcement marks another bold step in a journey that’s already caught global attention. Its current slate includes “Warlord”, an AI-generated TV series co-produced with acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, which explores the emotional and philosophical edges of AI and human imagination.

“Our collaboration with Chad marks a defining moment in our journey where India will make stories for the world,” said Studio Blo co-founder and CEO Dipankar Mukherjee. “We’re using our proprietary AI tech stack as a creative collaborator with the finest global talent. Chad’s expertise will help us craft AI-first stories that are emotionally rich, visually stunning and globally resonant.”

Greulach, for his part, sees the partnership as the future in motion. “The future of entertainment lies at the crossroads of technology and creativity, and Studio Blo is right at that intersection,” he said. “Dipankar and his team aren’t just experimenting, they’re reimagining storytelling itself. Together, we’ll build entertainment IPs that fuse human artistry with machine intelligence to captivate audiences everywhere.”

As AI reshapes every frame of the creative process from script to screen Studio Blo is positioning itself as India’s breakout player in the global AI entertainment ecosystem, proving that the next big Hollywood story might just be coded in India.

With this alliance, Studio Blo isn’t just crossing continents, it’s blurring the line between imagination and innovation, showing that in the world of film, even intelligence can be artificial but emotion never is.

  • TAM Adex: screens and scenes spark spend surge as adland switches on big in Q1 FY 26

TAM Adex: screens and scenes spark spend surge as adland switches on big in Q1 FY 26

MUMBAI: India’s advertising engines have revved up in Q1 2025, with the industry riding high on the back of buzzing TV sets, scroll-stopping digital spends and billboards getting their groove back. The latest TAM AdEx Quarterly Report shows that marketers didn’t just show up, they splashed out. TV made a grand re-entry into the spotlight with a 16 per cent year-on-year growth in ad volumes compared to Q1 2024. Hindi GEC (General Entertainment Channel) ruled the roost with a whopping 22 per cent share, followed closely by Regional GEC and News genres at 15 per cent and 14 per cent respectively.

The big screen darling of Indian homes wasn’t just fluff and reruns either top advertisers like Hindustan Unilever, Reckitt, and Coca-cola kept the spots hot, with Coca-cola returning to the top 10 TV advertisers after a brief fizz out in 2024. Among categories, Toilet Soaps and Aerated Soft Drinks bubbled up, clocking a 29 per cent and 67 per cent growth in ad volumes respectively compared to Q1 last year.

Digital advertising clocked in an impressive 18 per cent increase in ad insertions in Q1 2025 over the previous quarter. Notably, Programmatic advertising contributed a dominant 45 per cent share of digital spots, while Google Display and Facebook together accounted for over a third of digital insertions.

Banking and financial services made big digital strides online investment platforms, personal loans, and insurance players were aggressive spenders. But the scene-stealer? Fantasy Sports, which surged ahead as Dream11 and My11Circle banked on cricketing fervour ahead of IPL 2025.

Out of Home (OOH) advertising made a thunderous comeback, reporting a 32 per cent jump in ad volume over Q1 2024. Transit media think metro wraps, bus backs, and airport panels saw the sharpest uptick, up by 38 per cent. FMCG, e-commerce and OTT brands led the charge, with a special mention for Amazon Prime Video’s “Mirzapur 3” teaser plastering high-traffic junctions in metro cities.

North India continued to dominate with 39 per cent of total OOH volumes, while Tier 2 towns witnessed an OOH growth spurt of 28 per cent, driven largely by regional retail players and upcoming D2C brands eager to build street cred.

India’s ad sector lit up Q1 2025, with TV ad volumes up 16 per cent YoY, Digital ad insertions rising 18 per cent QoQ, and OOH jumping 32 per cent YoY. FMCG led with over 25 per cent of total ad volume, while Hindi-language ads drove over 50 per cent of TV and digital impressions.

With IPL in full swing and festive season preparations already in the works, Q2 is expected to outdo Q1. But beyond numbers, what stands out is how brands are blending mass and personalised media placing bets on both prime-time viewership and pocket-sized scrollable moments.

From hoardings to handhelds, the message is loud and clear: India’s adland isn’t just recovering, it’s rewiring.

  • Nicole Clemens makes the prime time move to Amazon’s streaming empire

Nicole Clemens makes the prime time move to Amazon’s streaming empire

MUMBAI: Nicole Clemens has swapped Paramount’s fading star for Amazon’s prime position, landing the plum role of vice-president and head of international originals for Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. The appointment, effective 7 July, sees her trading one streaming giant’s troubles for another’s triumphs.

Fresh from her stint as president of the now-defunct Paramount Television Studios—where she presided over hits like Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Reacher, and Cross that ironically ended up on Prime Video—Clemens will now orchestrate Amazon’s content conquest across more than 20 territories. Rather like poacher turned gamekeeper, but with better streaming numbers.

Prime Video International, vice-president Kelly Day  clearly couldn’t contain her glee: “Nicole is a highly respected and experienced media executive who will guide our future international originals slate as we invest for the long term.” Translation: she knows how to make shows that people actually watch.

The timing couldn’t be more fortuitous. Prime Video’s international division has been on a right tear, churning out more than 140 original series and films across two dozen territories last year—their biggest haul yet. With over 200 million Prime members globally, there’s clearly an appetite for content that doesn’t involve subtitles reading “Netflix Original.”

Clemens brings serious pedigree to the role. During her Paramount tenure, she shepherded everything from the Emmy-nominated Station Eleven to George Clooney’s Catch-22, plus the entire Star Trek universe for Paramount+. Before that, she spent five years as executive vice-president at FX Networks, overseeing crowd-pleasers like Atlanta and Snowfall.

Her new empire will span teams across Europe, Latin America, and Asia Pacific, with regional heads including Javiera Balmaceda (Latin America, Canada, and Australia), Tara Erer (Northern Europe), and Nicole Morganti (Southern Europe) all reporting directly to her.

Additionally, Nikhil Madhok, head of international originals for India, will continue reporting to Gaurav Gandhi, VP of Prime Video APAC and Mena, but will remain a part of Clemens’s leadership team.

Supporting the division are Marc Hausmaninger, head of content strategy for international originals, and Sam Semon, responsible for international business affairs. This expanded team underscores Prime Video’s commitment to tailoring content across regions, with Clemens at the helm steering the international creative and strategic direction.

She’ll initially set up shop at Amazon MGM Studios’ Culver City headquarters before decamping to Prime Video’s London office—presumably for the superior biscuit selection.

The appointment signals Amazon’s serious intent to challenge Netflix’s global dominance. With international hits like Germany’s Maxton Hall and Spain’s Red Queen already in the pipeline, Clemens will be tasked with ensuring Prime Video’s international slate remains anything but secondary viewing.

  • YouTube crosses a billion hours of viewing on TV daily globally in 2024

YouTube crosses a billion hours of viewing on TV daily globally in 2024

MUMBAI: Hopefully, this will settle the argument once and for all.  It’s not Amazon Prime, it’s not Netflix, it’s actually YouTube which is dominating the living room. The latest end of the year report released by the Alphabet-owned streaming platform shows that globally viewers streamed over a billion hours of content on their TVs daily. A billion, yes, please , don’t fall of your chair, it was a billion hours, that makes it about 365 billion hours of viewing in 2024 on TV screens for YouTube. This was revealed by senior director product management YouTube on TV Kurt Wilms in a blog post on the YouTube site.

Content that viewers traditionally watch on TV, like sports and kids programs, gained momentum on YouTube this year, says a blog rounding up YouTube’s viewership trends. Watch time of sports content, YouTube says grew 30 per cent year over year, as users visited it  to get their line up of clips, highlights, and post-game interviews, all in one place. That is going to sky rocket in the coming year if creators take to Watch With which it has begun piloting. Watch With is a service which allows influencers to provide live commentary, analysis, and real time reactions to games and events, for their audience. It transforms  creators into sports casters.

YouTube says podcast watching is growing rapidly on TVs.  Viewers watched over 400M hours of podcasts monthly on living room devices. They’ve been tuning into podcasts similarly to how one would tune into a late-night talk show. The lines between audio-only podcasts and videos have blurred, and more creators are evolving to a multimedia storytelling approach to deepen connection with their audiences on YouTube, says the streamer.

The surge in living room viewership is no accident. The share of videos uploaded to YouTube in 4K is up by over 35 per cent year over year, as creators prioritize high-quality viewing experiences that truly shine on TV screens. And that investment is paying off: the number of creators making a majority of their revenue from TV is up more than 30 per cent year over year.

To further fuel this growth and support creators, YouTube recently made it even easier for viewers to subscribe to their favorite channels while watching on TV by adding the subscribe button directly to the video player. Early tests of this streamlined button show more than a 40 per cent increase in net subscribers through TVs.

Here’s more: families continued to watch together on TVs in 2024. After rolling out an option to easily switch between YouTube and YouTube Kids profiles on TV directly from the YouTube app last year, parents had expressed that they wanted better control. And the streamer is gearing up to introduce a new parent code feature that gives parents the power to prevent kids from accessing content that might not be age-appropriate.
