    Mumbai: Amuz Distribution chief revenue & strategy officer Alex Avon announced deals for FAST and OTT channels. Carlos Pacheco who was recently hired is the director of monetisation & OTT and is overseeing the FAST/OTT division. He came from the Just for Laughs (JFL) Group, most of which assets were just acquired by Amuz Distribution. New platforms that will carry JFL programming are Amazon Fire TV, Anoki and Local Now.

    Over the last two years, FAST channels of JFL programming have been in full expansion and by adding these new channels, the programs are now syndicated across 30 plus different platforms/markets (Samsung TV Plus, Roku, Xumo Play, Google TV, Rakuten TV, Sling TV and others). These FAST channels make Amuz Distribution one of the largest independent Canadian media companies with this high reach with FAST channels.

    Avon stated, “Amuz Distribution is thrilled to announce more expansion of our company, especially with the Just For Laughs Group programs, now on many different platforms in several markets.     HBO Max now available on Amazon Fire TV

    NEW DELHI: WarnerMedia has revealed that HBO Max, the US streaming platform, will begin rolling out immediately on Amazon Fire TV streaming devices, Fire TV Edition smart TVs, and Fire tablets.

    HBO Max is WarnerMedia’s direct-to-consumer streaming offering, with 10,000 hours of curated premium content. The platform features content from HBO, Warner Bros, DC, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Turner Classic Movies, and more. As per media reports, the platform has nearly 38 million subscribers.

    The current subscribers of HBO through Amazon’s Prime Video channels will be able to log in to the HBO Max app with their Amazon credentials at no additional cost. The HBO app on Fire TV and Fire tablets will automatically update to become the HBO Max app; customers will be able to log in using their existing HBO credentials. New customers can also subscribe to HBO Max directly in the app. Additionally, all existing HBO Max customers – regardless of how they subscribe to the platform – can now access all of HBO Max via supported Fire TV and Fire tablet devices using their existing provider credentials.

    With Amazon Alexa, at launch customers can navigate to the HBO Max app by saying “Alexa, find HBO Max” with Fire TV’s included Alexa Voice Remote or a paired echo device for hands-free control. HBO Max content is also integrated into universal search on Fire TV, meaning that its content will appear in searches such as “Alexa, find dramas” or “Alexa, find Game of Thrones.” Customers can also ask Alexa to start watching something specific; “Alexa, play The Undoing.”

    WarnerMedia has plans to energise the India ops with HBO Max.

    MUMBAI: OTT publishing platform Future Today has announced a new distribution deal with the recent launch of Fawesome, HappyKids and FilmRise channels on Cox Contour TV and Contour Stream Player. The new agreement enables customers to discover and watch Future Today's premium content, which includes over 60,000 video assets across these three channels, featuring popular movies, TV shows and kids programming available from major studios and media companies.

    The distribution expansion on Cox platforms is an important piece of the Future Today's vast expansion, which is underway. Cox Communications, private telecom company in America, serves six million homes and businesses across 18 states.

    Future Today continues to grow at a rapid pace, with April bringing the best performance of its channels in company history – users are up over 125 per cent YOY and streaming hours are up over 100 per cent YOY. Similar to other streaming services, Future Today is also seeing a spike in consumption with viewership up nearly 30 per cent since the beginning of the pandemic.

    "We are pleased to be offering Cox customers all of our channels through Contour TV and Contour Stream Player," said Future Today COO-co-founder Vikrant Mathur. "In these trying times with families sheltering at home, the family and entertainment channels will be particularly compelling to viewers and are watched more than any other channels in their class across our platform."

    Future Today's agreement with Cox marks its second PayTV deal. Future Today has also recently announced a carriage agreement with Comcast and branded entertainment channels with companies such as Lego, Adventure 2 Learning, and others. Future Today programming is currently available on every major streaming platform, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple, LG, Samsung, Vizio, Xbox, iOS and Android.

    Disney reports strong quarterly result; strikes deal with Amazon for Disney+

    MUMBAI: The Walt Disney Company reported its fourth quarter earnings when it’s nearing the launch of its Disney+ streaming platform. Moreover, Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger said that the Mouse House has struck a distribution deal for its Disney+ streaming service with Amazon.com, and the service will be carried by Amazon's Fire TV.

    "We've spent the last few years completely transforming The Walt Disney Company to focus the resources and immense creativity across the entire company on delivering an extraordinary direct-to-consumer experience, and we're excited for the launch of Disney+ on November 12," he added.

    The company delivered a strong financial result compared to the previous quarterly report for its fourth quarter, with diluted earnings per share of $1.07 beating Wall Street analysts’ consensus forecast of 95 cents. Even, the total revenue reached $19.1 billion in the quarter exceeding the analysts’ estimate for $19.04 billion.

    Media Networks revenues for the quarter increased 22 per cent to $6.5 billion, and segment operating income decreased 3 per cent to $1.8 billion. Cable Networks revenues for the quarter increased 20 per cent to $4.2 billion and operating income decreased $19 million to $1.3 billion. In addition to that, the company’s theme parks arm also experienced growth, with revenues for the quarter jumping 8 per cent to $6.7 billion, and segment operating income rising 17 per cent to $1.4 billion.

    MUMBAI: Sun Direct is finding ways to hold on to its subscriber base amidst the hordes of consolidation and shutdowns happening in the industry. Strengthening its hold in the South, which forms the largest chunk of its territory, it has announced a free membership of its video-on-demand (VOD) platform Sun NXT for active Cinema Plus, Mega Pack and World Pack subscribers.

    The subscription-based VOD platform offers three plans–monthly for Rs 50, quarterly for Rs 130 and annually for Rs 490. The first 30 days constitute the free trial period after which the payment kicks in. Offline download and viewing are available in the app as well.   

    Sun TV Network’s Sun NXT, which was launched in mid 2017, offers over 50,000 hours of live TV content, movies, originals, kid’s content, music across four South Indian languages–Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. It also streams movies from Kollywood, Tollywood, Mollywood and Sandalwood.

    Sun NXT being a screen-agnostic platform is also available on Smart TVs and streaming devices like Amazon Fire TV, Google Chromecast, Apple TV etc.

    Sun Direct has six packs, which include Mega Pack with 204+ channels, Tamil Super Value with 179+ channels, Tamil Cinema + Sports with 174+ sports, Tamil World Pack with 172+ channels, Tamil Value with 128+ channels and Tamil Economy Pack with 82+ channels, for one month, three months, six months and twelve months. Sun Direct packages start from Rs 1499 (Tamil Economy Pack for 96 months) and go up to Rs 5290 (Mega Pack for 12 months).

  • Dekkho to identify non-production house talent, plans four web series in Sept-Oct

    MUMBAI: Dekkho will largely focus on youth-based videos and regional content across six languages, primarily serving the 18-30 year old mobile audience.

    The online video streaming platform has announced plans to establish itself as the destination for talent discovery in India and showcase premium content from non-production house talent. Having collaborated with 80+ creators to curate premium videos across genres such as food, fashion, travel, lifestyle, comedy and gossip, the platform is now gearing up to run multiple digital promotions and events to identify emerging talent and get them on board over the next three to four quarters.

    The platform will also mark its foray into original content co-creation with four branded video properties, lined up for September-October period, in the form of web series, music videos, and short-form videos.

    Dekkho’s latest move is aimed at tapping into the unscripted and independent creator market, which comprises around 80 per cent of the overall production volume of online entertainment.

    As part of its marketing strategy, Dekkho has tied up with leading telecom operators and original phone equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to offer greater exposure to content developed by independent creators. The platform has additionally collaborated with partners like Amazon Fire TV.

    Co-founder Tanay Desai said, “Viewers today want more of short, snackable content that independent creators like AIB or Miss Malini produce. Our aim now is to create visibility through a bunch of exciting developments like localising our UI, promoting offline viewing and building for low data consumption. We are focused on Tier II, Tier III consumers who constitute the masses, and provide them a focused, curated experience that is missing on YouTube and Facebook.”

    “Dekkho,” he said, “will primarily host creators who are not associated with a label or production house. This initiative is synergistic with that vision, and will help us in discovering exciting talent from across the country to provide our viewers with premium content across age groups, geographies, and languages.”

    Says he: “Not only are we providing them with global exposure and monetisation opportunities through our advertising network and brand integrations, but this is the first time their ongoing content will be represented on a big screen format via our partnerships.”

    Dekkho aims at realising its target of reaching five million monthly active users within the next year and have 200 channels on board.

  • Amazon Fire TV: Autism channel now available free

    MUMBAI: The Autism Channel’s streaming video content is now available on Amazon Fire Stick, Fire TV and select Seiki, Westinghouse and Element televisions with Fire TV technology. Amazon’s Fire TV stick and Fire TV set top box have joined Roku and Panasonic Viera devices where viewers can watch The Autism Channel’s programming free on demand.

    The Autism Channel streams nearly 100 hours of digital video content featuring individuals on the autism spectrum and professionals in the field of autism spectrum treatment and research. The channel began streaming on Roku in 2012 and added the Panasonic Viera TV platform two years later.

    Users of Amazon Fire TV technology can now access the channel without charge by adding it to their channel list from the On-Demand Movie Streaming category of the Apps & Games section at amazon.com. Roku users can find the channel in the educational section of the Roku channel store.

    Panasonic Viera owners can find the channel in the channel store on most Viera television devices.

    The Autism Channel features programming designed for those who are parents or caregivers of people on the spectrum, professionals in the field, and those on the spectrum themselves. It offers a wide range of programming from movie reviews, mini-documentaries about autism and interview shows, to “Time Out” features designed to be calming and relaxing.

    This rollout is the first of many which will add several smart television set types, set top box and streaming stick platforms and phone and tablet devices to widen the availability of the channel. The Autism Channel is a privately owned media content developer and supplier based in West Palm Beach, Florida.
