  • All-time screening record at 11th Mipcom Junior

    CANNES: The 2003 Mipcom Junior screenings which were held on 8 and 9 October in Cannes broke all viewing records since it’s launch in 1996.
    A total of 13,815 individual screenings were carried out by programme buyers, a 15 per cent increase compared with 12,052 last year. Previously, the highest number of screenings took place at Mipcom Junior 2000 with 12,572 viewings.
    Sellers presented 738 programmes this year (695 last year, +6 per cent) including 339 titles presented for the first time ever (319 last year, +6 per cent).
    383 companies registered at the screenings (364 last year, +5.22 per cent), including 180 seller companies (166 last year, +8 per cent) and 193 buyer companies (184 last year, +5 per cent) from 53 countries (same last year). US attendance grew by 41.3 per cent with 65 companies (46 
    last year), Canada by 31 per cent with 38 companies (29) and Germany by 25 per cent with 30 companies (24). All in all, 704 participants attended the event (685 last year, +2.77 per cent).
    Mipcom Junior 2003’s most screened titles included: Creepschool, presented by Alphanim (France), EM. TV & Merchandising (Germany) and Happy Life Animation (Sweden) with 108 screenings; Tutenstein, brought by Buena Vista International Television (UK) and Porchlight Entertainment (USA) – 96 screenings; and My Goldfish is Evil from Sardine Productions (Canada) – 83 screenings. The additional numbers for the top 30 most screened programmes are listed below, all of which were animation.

    Animation steals the show at Mipcom Jr 2002

    CANNES: The largest contingent of children’s programme buyers ever registered in Mipcom Junior’s 10-year history visted the two-day screenings event ( 5 – 6 October at Palais des Festivals, Cannes).

    A total of 433 buyers – a 19.3 per cent increase compared to last year’s 363 buyers – attended the event, according to an official release. At Mipcom Junior 2000, 418 buyers attended the screenings.

    Buyers from the American continent represent the largest increase in the overall number of buyers (+54.8 per cent compared to last year), followed by the Asia Pacific (+40.5 per cent) and Africa/Middle East (+36.4 per cent). A total number of 685 programmes were presented at Mipcom Junior (-8 per cent compared to last year’s 758 programmes).

    Programme buyers made 12,052 screenings, a 3.6 per cent increase compared to last year’s 11,634 screenings. The most screened category was animation with 9,851 screenings (+5.88 per cent compared to last year), followed by drama/fiction (893 screenings) and education (557). Animation also accounts for all of Mipcom Junior’s 30 most screened titles .

    Most screened programmes include Decode Entertainment and Sunwoo Entertainment’s B-Bot Vs The Alien Posse with 79 screenings, followed by Decode’s Franny’s Feet (75 screenings), Millimages UK’s Fire Quest (72), and Alphanim’s Creepschool (71).

    In all, 166 seller companies, 192 buyer companies and an overall number of 685 participants from 53 countries attended Mipcom Junior 2002.
