    MUMBAI: Adani Wilmar Limited (AWL) has partnered with The Akshaya Patra Foundation to expand the Mid-day meal programme, providing nutritious meals to underprivileged schoolchildren in Ahmedabad.

    As part of the initiative, six newly introduced delivery vans will facilitate smooth meal distribution, enhancing food accessibility across schools. The vans were officially flagged off in Ahmedabad, with key representatives from Adani Wilmar and The Akshaya Patra Foundation in attendance.

    Adani Wilmar MD & CEO Angshu Mallick stated, “Proper nutrition is essential for a child’s education and future. By supporting The Akshaya Patra Foundation, we aim to ensure that nutritious meals reach children seamlessly, helping them learn and grow without the barrier of hunger.”

    The Akshaya Patra Foundation, which serves over 2.1 million children across 16 states and two union territories, welcomed this support. Gujarat vice president Raya Rama Dasa said, “These delivery vans are vital in reaching more children efficiently. We are grateful to Adani Wilmar for their continued dedication to tackling classroom hunger.”

    This partnership builds on Adani Wilmar’s Fortune Suposhan initiative, which focuses on eradicating malnutrition and anaemia. Last year, the company donated three vans and provided meals for 2,000 children for a year.

    Adani Wilmar reaffirms its commitment to fostering a healthier and more nourished generation, ensuring that no child’s education is compromised due to hunger.

    MUMBAI: Consumer durable firm LG Electronics India has pledged $5.5 million for Covid-relief efforts and set up medical infrastructure to aid the battle against the novel Coronavirus in India. The company said as part of this initiative, it will set up 10 makeshift hospitals across India in association with local government bodies and NGOs.

    It will also fund more beds to treat Covid-19 patients at India’s biggest medical facility, AIIMS.

    “All these makeshift hospitals will be made across Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Pune, Bhopal, Udaipur, Lucknow and other cities in association with various government hospitals. LG Electronics will be working with implementation partners including people to People foundation across various states,” it added.

    In a statement, LG Electronics India MD Young Lak Kim said, “We stand committed to lending our full support to the government and citizens in the fight against Covid-19. With the onset of the pandemic last year, we provided support by sharing our resources with the healthcare community. Our focus has always been on the well-being of the people and we believe through makeshift hospitals we can contribute to saving lives by creating medical infrastructure. We will be working with various authorities and partners to create required medical infrastructure with a budget of $ 5.5 million.“

    In April 2020, LG had partnered with Akshaya Patra Foundation to serve one million meals across India and donated products like water purifiers, air-conditioners, refrigerators and TVs to over 300 hospitals allotted for quarantine/ isolation wards in states and districts.

     LG’s decision to support India in its fight against Covid-19 comes days after other tech giants pledged similar support. Earlier this week, Twitter announced $15 million funding to help address the Covid-19 crisis in the country.

    Zee Entertainment undertakes national-level CSR drive for Covid2019 cause

    MUMBAI:  Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL)  announced a national-level CSR drive towards enhancing the country’s healthcare infrastructure, further strengthening its fight against Covid2019.

    In line with its CSR Policy, approved by the board, the company will support state governments and local governing bodies with critical interventions across 10 cities viz Mumbai, Noida, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi and Chennai. 

    The company will be utilising the sanctioned CSR budget (for the fight against Covid2019) to provide the following:

    ·    Ambulances – 200+ ambulances to be donated to the municipal corporations (46 ambulances have already been donated to BMC).

    ·    Humidifiers – 50 high flow heated respiratory humidifiers to be donated to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

    ·    PPE (personal protective equipment) Kits – 40,000+ kits to be donated to municipal corporations across the Nation.

    ·    Portable ICUs – 100+ ICU units to be built with state-of-the-art tech support across the Nation.

    ·    Daily meals – 600,000 meals to be provided to 10,000 migrants.

    With the support of Maharashtra state government, the company has flagged off the national level CSR drive against Covid2019 with Mumbai, in the presence of chief minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray, minister for tourism, environment and protocol Aaditya Uddhav Thackeray and ZEEL managing director and chief executive officer Punit Goenka, by donating 46 ambulances and 50 high flow heated respiratory humidifiers to BMC. This support will help build capacity and enhance the existing healthcare infrastructure in Mumbai.

    The company will approach and work with all state governments and local governing bodies across the nation, to formulate an action plan that is structured on fulfilling the immediate requirements to fight the pandemic.

    Over and above the support towards healthcare relief, ZEEL has also partnered with Akshaya Patra Foundation to provide 600,000 daily meals which will support 10,000 migrants across the Nation for a month.

    Goenka said, “The effects of the Covid2019 pandemic in India has been far-reaching and calamitous for vulnerable communities. It is important that we stand up during such times and step up our efforts as responsible members of society. ZEEL is committed to continuing its strong support towards the government, with a key focus on strengthening the overall healthcare infrastructure, to save our nation from this pandemic. We are also significantly increasing our efforts on-ground to provide relief to migrants across the country. We will continue to do our best to serve the nation in these challenging times.”

    Aaditya Thackeray said, “The scale of this pandemic is enormous, and the government of Maharashtra is working round the clock to enhance the modular medical facilities and support our frontline workers. Every step ahead is a successful step towards beating the current humanitarian crisis. We would like to thank Punit Goenka and ZEEL for their support in this time of need towards Covid2019 response and relief.”

    BMC commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal added, “We are dealing with challenging times where being ahead of the virus is key to fighting the war against Covid2019. We have implemented several path-breaking innovative measures across the city to curb the increase in the number of cases and are ramping up our medical facilities. We are glad to receive this support from ZEEL that will further strengthen our efforts while also ensuring the well-being of the citizens. It is humbling to see organisations such as ZEEL coming forward and fighting this crisis together with us.”

    Earlier, ZEEL had announced financial support to over 5000 daily wage earners working directly or indirectly with the company. The company had also encouraged all its 3400+ employees to contribute towards PM CARES Fund. The amount generated was matched by ZEE, and the collective proceeds were routed to PM CARES Fund.

    MUMBAI: National Geographic Channel (NGC) is going back to school with The Akshaya Patra Foundation to showcase how the world’s largest school lunch program is cooking up millions of meals and offering India’s children a hopeful tomorrow, one plate at a time.

     

    NGC will premiere Akshaya Patra – Shiksha ka Mahabhog on the Mega Kitchen series on 27 April, 2015 at 9 pm.

     

    The one-hour special gives a unique look into what goes into the functioning of this mammoth kitchen – with a focus on scale, volume, technology and process. Committed to serving the cause of providing nutrition to children, The Akshaya Patra Foundation serves wholesome food to over 1.4 million school children from 10,770 schools in 24 locations across 10 States in India.

     

    NGC’s exclusive documentary on Akshaya Patra promotes the thought of food for education and gives interesting insights like how a whopping 175,000 meals are cooked in just about five hours with an ‘inexhaustible vessel’ and how gravity is used to do all the load-bearing work. To further the cause of mid-day meal programme, NGC has also launched #FoodForEducation initiative on digital media to raise awareness and donations for the Akshaya Patra Foundation.
