Desi Boyz gets ‘A’, The Dirty Picture ‘U’

MUMBAI: Contrary to the expectations of the producers of Desi Boyz and The Dirty Picture, the Censor Board has done just the opposite.

While the Akshay Kumar, John Abraham- strarrer film has been given an ‘A‘ certificate, the latter has been passed without cuts and given a ‘U‘ certificate.

It is understood that the producers of Desi Boyz were expecting a U/A certificate but with the lead players playing male strippers, the Board‘s decision to grant the film an ‘A‘ certificate has belied their hope.

On the other hand the makers of The Dirty Picture were a bit nervous about the censorship and were expecting an adult certificate with a splash of Vidya Balan‘s liberal dose of skin-show. However the Censor Board did not see any problem and the film was passed without any cuts.

Desi Boyz is set to release on 25 November, while The Dirty Picture will hit the cinema screens on 2 December.

Akshay Kumar starrer Joker to release on 30 Aug

MUMBAI: The Shirish Kunder-directed Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi Sinha starrer fantasy-adventure Joker will release on 30 August next year.

Confirming the release date, Kunder said, “We have finalised on the date of release on 30 August next year. Post that, we would be working on VFX and 3D for around six months and then the last couple of months would go for an all around promotional campaign.”

Joker had gone on floors early this year.

The development goes to show that Akshay Kumar would have a film of his releasing almost every second month starting April next year. While Housefull 2 (April) would be first to arrive, Rowdy Rathore (June), Joker (August) and Khiladi 786 – Made In Punjab (November) would follow.

  • Release of Housefull 2 preponed to IPL time

Release of Housefull 2 preponed to IPL time

MUMBAI: Sajid Nadiadwala has preponed the release of his upcoming film, Housefull 2. The film will now be released by Eros International on 5 April instead of 1 June 2012.

The reason of the postponement came in the wake of YRF’s decision to release their Salman Khan-starrer Ek Tha Tiger on 1 June. Nadiadwala didn’t want a clash with the release of a Salman Khan film. So he thought it better to prepone than postpone the release of Housefull 2.

Housefull 2 is a comedy in true Sajid Khan style and stars Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and Riteish Deshmukh along with Asin Thottumkal, Jacqueline Fernandez, Randhir Kapoor, Zarine Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Boman Irani and Chunky Pandey.

Nadiadwala’s move can also be seen as further emboldening of Bollywood’s decision to take the IPL head on. The League goes underway on 4 April. Early last week, Vidhu Vinod Chopra made open his plans to release Ferrari Ki Sawari on 27 April next year.

Ajay Devgn in Hindi remake of Malayalam film

MUMBAI: AHaving succeeded in his endeavour to switch over to action-oriented roles in Singham, Ajay Devgn has delved into a character that has a blend of Peter Sellers‘ comedy and Charlie Chaplin‘s pathos in an upcoming film, The Arab, The Camel & P Madhavan Nair.

The film will be directed by Priyadarshan who is currently in the last lap of completion of the Malayalam version titled Arabiyum Ottakavum P Madhavan Nairum.

Said the director, “I am indeed remaking Arabiyum Ottakavum P Madhavan Nairum with Ajay. This is the first time I‘ve decided to do a Hindi version of a film even before completing the Malayalam version. I am certain that Ajay can do full justice to it.”

It may be said that it was Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan who had apparently sent feelers to Priyadarshan for that particular role, but the director turned to Devgn to essay the role of the protagonist in the film.

Why Orchard Advertising coined Torchaar for Khataron Ke Khiladi

MUMBAI: Colors is gearing up to launch the fourth season of its daredevil reality show, Fear Factor – Khatron Ke Khilaadi, and Akshay Kumar is coming back as the host.

In order to glorify the fourth season and the toughness of the tasks, the creative agency of the channel coined up the term ‘Torchaar‘, a mix of torture and chaar (four).

Orchard Advertising coined the term to express ‘torture multiplied by four, a term that will be synonymous with the torment Khatron Ke Khilaadi – Torchaar Season 4 dares to deliver.

The channel is promoting the idea of Torchaar not just on television but on radio, outdoor and also in building ideas for on-ground activation.

Colors AVP marketing Rajesh Iyer said that the brief to the agency was “fairly challenging” as the channel wanted to communicate Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar’s comeback on the show for the 4th season.

“Orchard came up with an interesting concept of ‘Torchaar’ and followed up with great execution in association with MAD Films. Putting it together in record time with all special effects and CG was equally demanding,” added Iyer.

The communication started with the Publicis Groupe’s creative agency creating four videos around the core idea, featuring Kumar, who is going through various forms of tortures.

Orchard Advertising Mumbai executive creative director Hemant Kumar Sivan said, “Torture was one word that captured the essence of the show and we thought it would be a memorable way to launch this season the Torchaar way.”

The promos are directed by Marco Kalantari, while the music is given by Vicky Goswami.

In the mid-nineties, Eveready launched its first major advertisement campaign with the slogan “Give me Red”. The advertising byline of the popular Red series of batteries is symbolic of the urban lifestyle that the brand reflects.
