  • OYO releases new summer break campaign

OYO releases new summer break campaign

Mumbai: OYO has launched its latest summer campaign, ‘Don’t let their summer break, break you!’. The campaign will go live across multiple channels including press ads, OOH, radio, digital films, and OYO’s social media channels.

Similar to OYO’s recent ‘Assi Reach Gaye’ campaign, this campaign takes cues from consumer insights, highlighting children’s typical summer behavior with the only way out — heading for a summer vacation

The campaign is carried out based on OYO’s internal consumer study. As per OYO’s study, 82 percent of parents said they have a difficult time juggling work and keeping children occupied during summer breaks. Further, the study highlights that over 65 per cent of Indians shared intent to plan vacations with their kids this summer, after two consecutive years of lockdowns during summer breaks. In such a situation, taking a summer vacation is a win-win for both – parents and the kids.

This consumer insight also became the genesis for OYO’s latest summer campaign – Don’t let their summer break, ‘break you’ which highlights every parents’ dilemma — prioritising work while keeping kids entertained. The campaign brings to life children’s yearning for a summer break through quirky animated characters. The campaign is set to go live across multiple channels such as print ads, outdoor hoardings, radio channels, digital ads, CRM and OYO owned social media channels. Over the month, the campaign will go live across various cities such as Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad.

OYO SVP & head of global brand Mayur Hola said, “Kids have been stuck at home for the majority of the past two years. Summer vacations are all about playtime for kids. Not so much for parents though. They’re on edge, juggling between zoom calls and impatient children who are dying to head out. That’s why our latest campaign shares a friendly reminder with parents; take a trip as much for yourselves, as for the kids. From Assi Reach Gaye to now, our effort has been to widen the pool of people who consider an OYO, when looking to take a break right next door or in a land far far away. And it’s leading to some super cute output.”

Policybazaar announces new tagline ‘Har Family Hogi Insured’ to strengthen its brand

Mumbai: Online insurance marketplace Policybazaar has announced its new tagline – Har Family Hogi Insured to underscore the brand’s vision of a healthy and well-protected India.

The tagline reinforces the company’s mission to help the Indian middle-class deal with the 3D’s death, disease and disability. The campaign is inspired by Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDAI) chairperson Shri Debashish Panda’s vision of providing insurance to each family by 2047.

To further expand and deepen insurance penetration in India, Policybazaar has strengthened its physical presence with over 500 dedicated field agents, 35 newly-opened retail outlets and 6 new major centres apart from its existing Gurgaon and Mumbai operations.

To cater to different regions and engage with customers, especially in Tier two and tier three cities, the brand provides native language support in 11 languages to guide them throughout the policy lifecycle.

“With our commitment to putting customers at the centre of our services, we have been able to successfully enhance the level of insurance awareness for our existing consumers,” said Policybazaar.com co-founder and group CEO Yashish Dahiya. “We want to take the insurance distribution and access to every nook and corner of the country. This refreshed brand commitment focuses on tier 2 & 3 cities for advancing a higher level of awareness regarding insurance protection. The new tagline launch emphasizes our aim to democratise insurance in India where each member of the household is insured.”

Even after witnessing an increased adoption after the pandemic, insurance penetration in India still remains low as compared to countries like the USA and China. At present, only 20 per cent of India’s 60 million families, i.e., people with more than $6000 per year income have adequate insurance coverage.

“Our focus has always been on improving India’s insurance penetration and casting a wider financial safety net for each family in the country,” said Policybazaar.com CEO Sarbvir Singh. “Our new tagline to Har Family Hogi Insured strongly re-emphasizes the brand’s core values and focus. Customers in smaller towns and cities are now increasingly gravitating towards adequate insurance coverage. We are also seeing a steady shift in the business mix with 59 per cent of our insurance business coming from non-tier 1 cities, up from 28 percent in FY17.”

Policybazaar is a leading digital insurance marketplace with a 93.4 per cent market share among all online insurance distributors, its 48 million customer base and over 126 million platform visitors.

I&B ministry issues advisory against ads promoting online betting

MUMBAI: The ministry of information and broadcasting has issued an advisory to print, electronic and digital media to refrain from advertising online betting platforms, according to the ministry’s statement.

It said the advisory comes in light of instances of several ads of online betting websites/platforms appearing in print, electronic, social and online media.

Betting and gambling, illegal in most parts of the country, pose a significant financial and socio-economic risk for the consumers, especially youth and children, the advisory states, the statement said.

It has further added that these advertisements on online betting have the effect of promoting this largely prohibited activity. “The advertisements of online betting are misleading, and do not appear to be in strict conformity with the Consumer Protection Act 2019, Advertising Code under the Cable Television Networks Regulation Act, 1995, and advertisement norms under the Norms of Journalistic Conduct laid down by the Press Council of India under the Press Council Act, 1978,” it also stated.

The advisory has been issued in the larger public interest, and it has advised the print and electronic media to refrain from publishing advertisements on online betting platforms. It has also advised the online and social media, including the online advertisement intermediaries and publishers, to not display such advertisements in India or target such advertisements towards the Indian audience.

On 4 December 2020, the ministry of information & broadcasting issued an advisory to private satellite TV channels to adhere to the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) guidelines on advertisements of online gaming which contained specific Do’s and Dont’s for print and audio-visual advertisements of online gaming.

  • GUEST COLUMN: How conversational AI is helping adtech brands maximize advertising ROI

GUEST COLUMN: How conversational AI is helping adtech brands maximize advertising ROI

Mumbai: The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in adtech has become pivotal over the years. It started with simple bots that helped customers with basic queries and requests through voice or text & now has evolved into sophisticated conversational AI. It is capable of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) for taking voice inputs and formulating a context-specific response in real-time. After all, understanding natural language and providing a meaningful response is the key to creating a seamless experience for customers, and this is where conversational AI comes into play.

Traditional online advertising was not successful in engaging customers

As digitization has exponentially increased in the past years, it has become difficult to cater to customer demands manually, and automation has been widely experimented with in the adtech sector. The drawbacks of conventional chatbots ranged from being disengaged and irrelevant to frustratingly non-conversational. The seemingly robotic nature of digital advertisements led to a lot of digital campaigns going to dust.

The result often used to be a loss in customers rather than a hike due to an uncontrolled and unthoughtful message being conveyed via the use of ineffective chatbots. A general lack of understanding of the customer’s intent and providing them with a specific solution were the topmost issues in the area of customer support. A lot of brands are now trying to implement conversational AI into their existing AdTech stack with varying levels of success. Some are doing it right, while others still have a long way to go.

The modern-day consumer demands more than being sold a product

Personalisation can be boosted from the very inception of a customer journey through predictive analysis. This innovation helps companies in customer personification, giving them access to a lot of structured data throughout the customer journey. The AI can analyse all the data available on a particular customer and predict what they want based on past behaviour. This enhances the prospects of call-to-action, directly impacting the revenues by 21 percent organically.

The customer’s AI-generated avatar helps build a personalised experience in an omnichannel ecosystem for advertisements. The analysis is effective across these channels, and the consistent brand voice communicated to the customer imparts a sense of connection that aligns with the customer’s mindset. This plays a critical role in keeping them engaged as building upon previous impressions becomes easier and cost-effective due to reduced cost per acquisition (CPA). Customers are no longer just numbers on a spreadsheet; they are individuals with unique goals and needs. This is why conversational AI is such an essential technology for advertisers today.

Conversational AI uses intuitive technologies to interact with their customers

Conversational AI is a game-changer for the adtech industry. It is creating new opportunities for brands to maximise their advertising ROI. It offers in-depth customer insights that help adtech companies understand, adapt and respond to customer needs, thereby improving engagement and sales.

It helps businesses create targeted audiences based on data analysis around various factors, including age, gender, location, and more. This helps deliver specific content to different groups of people, boosting engagement and sales. Predictive analysis by AI significantly reduces turnaround time, making it easier for companies to meet deadlines without sacrificing quality or spending more money on additional resources like hiring full-time employees for each department (like marketing).

Conversational AI can analyse conversations between consumers and brands, which allows businesses to predict what their customers want next. This data can then be used to personify a consumer’s identity as part of their journey through the sales funnel so that they feel more connected than ever before.

    Summing up

As the industry moves towards conversational commerce, it has become clear that conversational AI will play a fundamental role in driving this change. And because it’s built into an existing CRM system, the existing infrastructure can be used without having to make significant changes or upgrades. AI-powered chatbots are, therefore, the future of customer service, with the industry poised to reach a whopping $14 billion by 2025.

  • Layer’r Shot ‘apologises’ for offensive ads, invites further flak online

Layer’r Shot ‘apologises’ for offensive ads, invites further flak online

Mumbai: Following a social media backlash over its controversial deo ads, and after being called out by the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) and the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI), the Layer’r Shot brand issued a clarification statement, including an apology on Monday.

The statement, however, judging by the responses it received on social media, appears to have done little to quell the outrage surrounding the brand’s films. If anything, it only seems to have fanned the flames of netizen’s outrage even further.

Here’s the statement from the brand:

The statement, while referencing the two recent advertisements from the brand on broadcasting platforms, informs everyone that the brand “aired the advertisements only after due and mandatory approvals.”

It further added that it never intended to “hurt anyone’s sentiments or feelings or outrage any women’s modesty or promote any sort of culture, as wrongly perceived by some.”

“However, we sincerely apologise for the advertisements that consequently caused rage amongst individuals & several communities and beg their pardon.” also read the letter, while adding that it has voluntarily informed all its media partners to stop the telecast/ broadcasting of both the TV advertisements from 4 June 2022.

It may be noted that on the same day (4 June), the MIB had written to social media platforms -Twitter and YouTube to remove all instances of the two “inappropriate & derogatory” ads with immediate effect. The TV channel on which it appeared had already pulled it down on its directions, the ministry had tweeted

The internet was scathing in its response to what several netizens termed as a poor and even fake attempt at apology. Most of the users took exception to the choice of words used in the apology, specifically the words “wrongly perceived” with regards to people’s perception of the offending ads.

It wasn’t wrongly perceived, wrote a user, continuing: “It was perceived exactly the way you meant it to be perceived. Don’t try to pretend like you weren’t demeaning women and implying sexual assault in your ads. It was your whole hook.”

Not wrongly perceived. What was the story, and what was the implied meaning? Why did the female lead expression change? Pls can you reveal.. @layerr_shot so we can be sure that it was wrongly perceived.

Another user-determined: “This is not an apology. You know what you did. You know why you did it.”

Yet another fumed at the alleged audacity of the brand to term the public’s response as wrongly perceived, further adding: It’s also kinda sickening that it went through several people who found it to be okay.

A Twitterati called out the brand’s marketing department and corporate communication team, stating that they ought to be “case studies on how to spend money to earn infamy.”

Accusing the brand to be still in denial of its wrongdoing, an apology with a comment of how the viewers “Wrongly perceived it.. Is not an apology.” And another added, “You need to apologise for this apology too!”

“Pretty bad ad. The agency partners, brand team, approval team and conceptualization teams, are all at fault. A fake apology like this won’t help!” schooled another user.

Another netizen was outraged against the brand for its attempt to blame the audience. “This reflects on the toxicity of the unevolved brains behind this ad. They are blaming the audience. Every script has an insight behind it; the girls’ disgusted face (reaction) when the group of boys say those uncouth words is a clear indication that u knew!,” she wrote.

Some were severe in their indictment of the brand’s attempt at clarification, writing: Really? This is an apology? Didn’t the story in the advertisement cause rage among people in the meeting room when the advertisement was pitched. The ad has gangrape culture on full display and your product henceforth will smell like rape on the users. Shut it down.

For the unversed, the outrage is against two recent ads promoting the Layer’r Shot brand’s deo. The ads can be viewed here:

The first one of the offending ads features a couple getting intimate in a bedroom. Four of the guy’s friends barge into the room, sneering at the couple and asking a seemingly loaded and crude question. After a few moments of suspense, wherein the girl is seen visibly getting alarmed at what the guys’ true intentions are, the ad reveals that the friends were simply asking if they can use the Shot deo kept in the room!

The second ad plays out along similar lines, where the four men are showcased indulging in an animated conversation at a supermarket. A woman is shown in the forefront, while they discuss who will take the “shot” since there are four of them and just one of “it”. Again, the ad plays on the fear factor of the woman, as she looks back in alarm at the four men, only to find that they are talking about the single bottle of the Shot deo left in the store, while the ad makes it look as if they are talking about the woman.

Earlier, while referencing the action taken on the ads, ASCI CEO & secretary general Manisha Kapoor told Indian Television that: “An ad goes through many layers of discussions and approvals, and it is very disappointing that such ads were not weeded out.”

Everyone in the ecosystem has a role to play, including the advertiser, agency, production partners, and endorsers, she further added.

The ads, however Kapoor clarified, are not conceptualised by Triton Communications as several publications wrongly stated initially. In fact, the advertisements are an in-house creation.

The ministerial action came after several netizens flagged the offensive video commercials, accusing them of promoting rape culture and trivialising sexual violence against women, and being plain creepy.

The advertising self-regulatory body, ASCI also suspended the ads after finding them to be in serious breach of its code and against the public interest.
