    Facebook’s Mark D’Arcy to address the Ad Club

    MUMBAI: As part of its 60th anniversary The Advertising Club has arranged an evening meet with Mark D’Arcy on 28 October in Mumbai at 6:30 pm.

    Mark D’Arcy, who is the VP and chief creative officer of the Facebook Creative Shop, leads a team of creative strategists tasked with creating and building ideas that transform how the world’s largest and most innovative marketers use Facebook to drive business growth.

    After two decades of working as a writer and CCO in advertising and media, D’Arcy joined Facebook in 2011 to better explore the creative potential of the platform. He is the founder of the Facebook Creative Council which provides the social media platform with ideas on how to engage and educate the global creative community.

    Prior to joining Facebook, D’Arcy spent seven years at Time Warner in New York as CCO of its Global Media Group. He co-developed the first truly creative media arts practice within a global media company designed to better leverage the company’s extensive television, film, print and digital assets for its key marketing partners. In 2009, he was named president of the Group and senior VP of Time Warner.

    He spent 17 years of his career in New York, before shifting to London, where he is currently based.

    D’Arcy has been widely recognised for his creativity and leadership in the creative industries and regularly speaks all around the world on the subject of creativity in social media, the transformation of marketing, the communication arts and the role and purpose of brands in society.

    He has also served as a juror on numerous international awards shows including the CLIO Awards, LIA Awards, The International ANDY Awards and in 2013 served on the inaugural Innovations Lions jury at the Cannes Lions Awards.

    The event will be held at Hotel Palladium, Lower Parel, Mumbai.

    MUMBAI: The Advertising Club invites entries for 2013 EFFIE India Awards. The EFFIE 2013 AWARDS is the premiere and the most coveted showcase for marketing and creative strategies that work. The Award plays a tripartite role of giving unyielding acknowledgement to an agency for showcasing its power to build brands that lead to business, demonstrating the highest level of leadership in brand communication for the clients and most significantly celebrating effective advertising and marketing in India.

    While the International EFFIE Awards are hosted every year in New York, since 2001 The Advertising Club has been the Asian partner that has helped to organize the EFFIEs in our part of the world. Incidentally EFFIEs is the only award that is bestowed on both the client and agency to jointly share the celebration of their effective communication and perseverance.

    Says Ajay Kakar, Chairperson – EFFIE 2013 Committee, “Since inception in 2001, we have seen a significant increase in entries from 53 in 2001 to 357 in 2012. Also we have seen a substantial increase in the number of agencies participating and last year 50 agencies participating in EFFIE. This year to further enrich the award and bring greater creative focus to emerging and significant categories, we have introduced a few new categories while redefining a few. I am sure that this will help in recognizing effective work done across many more categories.”

    This year in addition to the existing categories some new ones have also been included, to give recognition to their importance and potential.The changes announced in the categories at EFFIEs 2013 are as follows:

    Consumer Products category has been divided amongst sub categories of:
    • Beverages/Drink
    • Confectionary and Food
    • Cosmetics & Toiletries, Personal Hygiene.
    • Others

    Services Category has been redesigned to include:
    • Media and Entertainment
    • Telecom and Related products
    • Financial Services
    • Others

    Marks the introduction of two new categories:
    • Experiential Marketing / Brand Experience
    • EFFIE for Good

    Also, Corporate Advertising category renamed as Corporate Advertising / Corporate Reputation.

    With this, EFFIEs 2013 open the door for all agencies across creative, media, digital and PR to demonstrate the leadership role in more effective brand communication.

    • Last date of Entries for EFFIEs Award 2013 : Monday, 25th November, 2013. 

    • Entries should pertain to work done between 1st July 2012 to 30th June 2013.

    • The award ceremony will be held on Wednesday, 15th January 2014, at the Royal Western Turf Club, Enclosure II, Mahalaxmi, Mumbai.

    All roads lead to the 13th EMVIES tonight!

    MUMBAI: It’s Friday and it is D-day of the Thirteenth edition of the Advertising Club‘s  EMVIES, the awards which were introduced to honour measurable and significant contributions in the field of media. And despite there being Friday and 13th in the dates, no one‘s scared. In fact the entire Indian media fraternity is agog with excitement about who is going to take home the maximum metals tonight. 

    Victory will be followed by chicken tikka, butter chicken, flutes of champagne, Cevas Regal and for the old timers good old Old Monk as everyone gets down to party.
    The glittering award ceremony is scheduled to be held tonight at Taj Lands End in the Bandra suburb of Mumbai with the whos who of the industry cheering their colleagues as they take their walks to the victory podium to the tooting of horns, whistles and what have you. 

    The Emvies which are considered as India‘s most prestigious and coveted media award is presented by Time Television Network (expect the bespectacled Sunil Lulla to be at his bewitching best) and is being organised by Fountainhead Promotions & Events. The bets are out as to who the master of ceremonies will be tonight but if one goes by previous years expect it to be the handsome and well-spoken Fountainhead boss Brian Tellis who has done a stellar job over the years. 

    The shortlist which was revealed two weeks back saw Mindshare leading the pack with Maxus and Lodestar UM following.

    This year, a few additions were made wherein judging rounds were held in New Delhi apart from Mumbai. A new category has been added to recognise the ‘unrecognised heroes’ of media agencies with the “Best Implementation Team of the Year” award and new sub categories in Best Media Innovation-TV, Best Media Innovation-Print, Best Integrated Campaign and Best Use of Research have been introduced. The event will also mark the re-introduction of categories like ‘Best Use of Sponsorship’.

    And of course, there is going to be entertainment as well. The Band Baja Awards will showcase the best of musical talent amongst media agencies and media companies only.

    Expect an evening of surprises! And a lot of noise as everyone goes wild at the EMVIES!

    Emvies 2013 announces shortlists

    MUMBAI: The Advertising Club has announced the shortlisted case studies for the 2013 edition of the Emvies award online. In total, 124 case studies made the cut and out of which Mindshare has the highest number of shortlisted entries, followed by Maxus and Lodestar UM.

    The awards are spread across seven categories comprising Best Media Strategy (four sub categories), Best Media Innovation (18 sub categories), Best Media Research (two sub categories), Best Ongoing Media Campaign, Best Integrated Campaign (four sub categories), Young Emvie of the Year and Best Use of a Bollywood Celebrity in media. The case studies will be screened during August 21-23 in Mumbai.

    The other agencies whose case studies have been nominated include MediaCom Communications, Madison Media Pinnacle, Ogilvy India, DDB Mudra Max, MEC, Starcom MediaVest Group, Madhouse India, ibs, Interactive Avenues, Madison Media Infinity, Madison Media Plus, OMD India, GroupM Dialogue Factory and Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific.

  • Bipin Pandit is The Advertising Club COO

    MUMBAI: Bipin Pandit, who was the general manager of The Advertising Club, has been named as the chief operating officer.

    The announcement comes close on the heels of the name change of The Advertising Club (then The Advertising Club Bombay) and the appointment of committee members. The decision was made at the first managing committee meeting held immediately after the AGM of the club.

    Pandit will report to The Advertising Club president and Lodestar UM CEO Shashi Sinha and the managing committee of the body.

    “When I had joined The Advertising Club Bombay, we used to have only one event Abby‘s. But now we have so many events happening. We also send young marketers and students to Cannes. My job will now be to travel and see that The Advertising Club is seen as more as a national body. I want to do new things and do existing things interestingly.”

    Pandit had joined the club in 1998 as the executive secretary to the manager and was later promoted as the GM.

    Mindshare tops EMVIES 2012’s nominations shortlist

    MUMBAI: Mindshare, the media agency under GroupM, has topped the EMVIES 2012 nominations shortlist with 27 of its case studies getting a window to compete in the race.

    The domination of the largest media buying agency in India is apparent as it occupies 21 per cent of the 126 case studies nominated by EMVIES.

    Emvies, India’s most prestigious and coveted media award, recognises and awards the most outstanding media initiatives developed over the year gone by.

    Maxus, with 19 shortlisted case studies, has taken the second spot followed by Madison’s Pinnacle that has earned nominations for 15 case studies.

    Next to follow is Lodestar UM with 13 shortlisted case studies. MEC has nine of its case studies shortlisted.

    DDB Mudra and DDB Mudra and Madison Media Infinity have five case studies shortlisted each and Interactive Avenues and Group M-Dialog Factory which have four case studies each shortlisted.

    The shortlisted case studies will be presented in Mumbai from 23-25 August.

    The EMVIEs were introduced by the Advertising Club Bombay to honour measurable and significant contributions in the field of media. The award ceremony will take place on 3 September in Mumbai.

    Mindshare’s Lays Baked advertisement that dwells on managing sibling rivalry and Maxus’ L’Oreal Paris ad on how we communicate is more important have been shortlisted in the Best Media Strategy-Consumer Products category.
