SportsBaazi recruits Uthappa, pitches sports trading as data-driven skill

MUMBAI: Online fantasy sports platform SportsBaazi has launched a campaign fronted by Robin Uthappa, promoting sports trading as a skill-based activity. The initiative, timed with IPL 2025, aims to shift fan engagement from passive viewing to active participation via live match moments trading. Uthappa, highlighting the role of data and discipline, features in the campaign films demonstrating strategic decision-making in real-time trading scenarios.

The campaign emphasises trading as a blend of intellect and analysis, not chance. SportsBaazi, chief marketing officer Puneet Dua asserts the platform seeks to legitimise sports trading as a mainstream skill format.

Says he: “This campaign is not just about awareness—it’s about sparking a movement. We’re building a space for serious sports fans—those who bring intellect, preparation, and strategy to their gameplay. Robin Uthappa’s evolution from cricketer to life coach to sports trader perfectly aligns with the mindset we want to cultivate — composed, thoughtful, and data driven. With IPL 2025 energising the nation, we’re excited to amplify this narrative across India’s sports-loving heartland.”

Adds Robin Uthappa:  “What attracted me to this campaign was the philosophy behind it. I’ve always believed that great performance on the field or in life comes down to clarity, preparation, and discipline. Sports trading is a game of insight, pattern recognition, and strategic timing. I see it as a natural evolution for the serious sports fan. If my journey can inspire even a few to explore it with the right mindset, I’ll consider it a win.”

But Uthappa’s role goes far deeper than screen presence. In creative workshops with the SportsBaazi team, he also reimagined the platform’s core slogan. “While we began with ‘Dil. Dimag. Data,’ Robin added a fourth ‘D’: Discipline. That struck a chord. So much so, it became the name of our flagship podcast — Dimag. Data. Discipline — hosted in collaboration with him,” adds Dua.

Uthappa’s involvement underscores the campaign’s focus on strategic play.

Digital platforms, including JioHotstar, YouTube, and Instagram, will distribute the campaign content, targeting India’s expanding digital user base in Tier-II and Tier-III cities. SportsBaazi aims to convert cricket viewership into active trading, advocating for a data-centric approach to sports engagement.

Bombay Shaving Company Women launches digital campaign #SayYesToTheCup

Mumbai: Bombay Shaving Company Women (BSC Women) has launched a bold & riveting digital campaign #SayYesToTheCup to drive awareness for menstrual cups and bring attention to sustainable menstrual choices. In the form of a rap battle, the campaign film dramatizes the benefits of using a menstrual cup versus more common forms of menstrual hygiene such as sanitary pads, thereby encouraging women to switch to comfortable & easy-to-use menstrual cups.

Two crews, representing the BSC Women menstrual cup and pad, battle it out, pitting the typical reactions of conventional sanitary products against the factual benefits of using menstrual cups.

Engaging and fun, the campaign film opens with a typical day at the office when a woman suddenly realizes she is on her period and her two colleagues aka pad-academic & cup-a-holic seem clearly interested to onboard her onto their respective crew. From there, the film transitions into an epic rap battle between the two crews and with the cup convincing the viewer to #SayYesToTheCup.

The campaign #SayYesToTheCup kicked off from 28 May 2022, which is marked as Menstrual Hygiene Day. But true to the brand’s personality of being bold, quirky and expressive, this movement is not restricted to a day.

Elaborating on the thought behind the campaign, Bombay Shaving Company Women chief business officer Siddha Jain said, “We believe in changing the game of how women’s hair removal and hygiene is perceived in India, and this is a movement towards our vision. Being a cup veteran and promoter myself, my team & I have carefully crafted the perfect cup for all humans who menstruate. Ultimately choosing the right sanitary product is really personal: we’d just like to make sure that choice is made knowing the facts. Staging a rap battle was a playful way to present some of the reservations about using the menstrual cup that we hear, alongside the benefits that cup users enjoy – in the end, as ever, it’s down to the viewer to pick their ‘crew’. But we will definitely be always on about menstrual cup awareness and convince you to #SayYesToTheCup.”

  • Koo co-founder Mayank Bidawatka on breaking the language barrier for social media users

Koo co-founder Mayank Bidawatka on breaking the language barrier for social media users

Mumbai: Having launched at the outset of the pandemic, home-grown multi-lingual micro-blogging platform, Koo has already garnered over fifteen million users in a short span of twenty months. Pitched as India’s alternative to the US microblogging platform Twitter, the app allows its users to express themselves in their mother tongue, providing its offerings across regional languages.

“We looked at the existing products and saw there was no platform to openly express oneself in Indian languages,” said co-founder Mayank Bidawatka, an alumnus from the Asian Institute of Management. “That’s when we realised that there’s a very large market out there waiting to be unleashed.”

The brainchild of founders Mayank Bidawatka and Aprameya Radhakrishna, the home-grown app has added five million users in the last quarter. The Bengaluru-based app currently supports nine Indian languages, namely, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Assamese, Marathi, Bangla, Gujarati and English, and is in the process of adding three more.

But, before Koo, the duo had co-founded Vokal- an expert-based Q & A platform in regional languages, an Indian version of Quora. “That time we got a lot of feedback from experts who felt that they were just answering questions that people asked. But, they also wanted to use an open expression platform where they could also share their thoughts freely,” said Bidawatka in an exclusive interview with Indiatelevision.com.

It is this thought that also forms the core of its first-ever Television campaign Koo Kiya Kya?’ launched during the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2021. Conceptualised by Ogilvy India, the campaign consisted of a series of short-format twenty-second advertisements that delve on the comfort of expressing oneself in one’s native tongue.

Talking about the objective behind the brand’s latest campaign, Bidawatka said, “To get all the people who are passive creators to become active creators, it was important for them to know what Koo’s about. With this campaign we are trying to drive the thought that ‘if you have anything on your mind, come and say it on Koo’. Hence the line ‘Dil mein jo bhi ho, Koo pe kaho’. Coupled with the slogan ‘Koo kiya kya’ that’s the broad concept behind the campaign.”

The brand also made a conscious decision not to have a celebrity endorse the campaign. “It needs to cater to the masses. Hence we used common people in the ads to show that anyone could be creating- You don’t need to be a celeb or big guy to create,” said the co-founder.

The start-up largely depended on online penetration in its initial phase of outreach, but going ahead it plans to make use of both mainstream media as well as digital media in equal measures. “Both of these are important for different reasons. Digital helps us to drive downloads, and mass media aids in creating brand awareness,” he added.

Building awareness was also top-of-the-mind when the brand decided to use Cricket as a launch-pad for its maiden campaign. “The T20 tournament is one of the most viewed properties of the country, plus if you want mass awareness, it’s one f the best properties to advertise in,” he said.

When asked about the consumer demographic the platform currently caters to Bidawatka said, “We have people across genders, age-groups, across cities and tier two towns. This product is made for the country at large where people find their topics of interest, their people of interest. Also it’s relatively simple to use.”

With the growing menace of hate speech on social media becoming a challenge for social media platforms, Bidwatka said, Koo is working on a feature that allows users to self-verify. “This way we’ll know we aren’t dealing with a fake account or someone who’s masked,” he signed off.

Dhani launches new campaign with actor Ayushmann Khurrana

Mumbai: Dhani Services Ltd, a mobile app & web platform for transactional finance & primary healthcare services has launched a new campaign “Ab Plans Nahin, Payments Push Kar” featuring actor Ayushmann Khurrana.

The TVCs conceptualised and created by Leo Burnett Orchard take a humorous route showing some of the common problems people face in their day-to-day life and demonstrates how the Dhani OneFreedom card can provide efficient solutions to all these problems. It establishes the option of pushing the payment and not one’s plans.

Khurrana with his India-wide appeal and connect perfectly amplifies this message in his signature effervescent style.

Dhani chief marketing officer Ankit Banga said, “By personifying the behaviour of “Push-kar”, our campaign looks to introduce India to a novel “Pay in 3″ Card that allows you to keep enjoying your lives and manage your payments more efficiently. Ayushmann’s charm, wit and relatability will be a great asset in this journey.”

Adding further, Leo Burnett Orchard head of creative Pravin Sutar said, “While pushing the pause button on purchasing our wish-listed items may help us save some money and mind our budgets, it also keeps us from experiencing the little joys of life. With Dhani’s One Freedom Card, users can fulfill their wishes and pay later. Khurrana’s capability of connecting with people irrespective of their age, gender, income, made us believe that he’ll be the perfect person to drive home this message.”

On being part of the campaign Bollywood star, Ayushmann Khurrana said it was wonderful to witness brands like Dhani take on common financial issues and provide such fresh solutions.

  • American Standard challenges industry norms with its differentiated advertising campaign

American Standard challenges industry norms with its differentiated advertising campaign

National, 25 September 2018: Making yet another bold and different move to disrupt advertising norms in sanitary ware category, American Standard (a part of Lixil) launched its brand campaign that is breaking the marketing category code, conversing with consumes like no brand ever has in this industry ever.
Priced in the mass premium segment and offering a wide range of ceramics and fittings products, American Standard has been one of the fastest growing major brands in India ever since Lixil took over three years ago. The secret of its success has been by constantly disrupting established norms in this undifferentiated category. “This category has not evolved with the times’, says Shubhajit Sen, Head of Strategy, Asia-Pacific. “At best, brands focus on building premium imagery and amorphous design differentiation. There is no consumer-centricity at all; and consumers have no way to tell between high and low performing products. That’s why deep discounts rule the market, eroding category value for everyone. With American Standard, we want to change the narrative in this industry”.
American Standard has already started doing things differently. It has aggressively build a distribution network – penetrating 175 towns with 400+ stores in just 3-4 months – the fastest ramp up in this industry. It has introduced a slew of products with features and functionality uncommon in India, like integrated shower-toilets and automated bidets that Lixil calls ‘spalet’; blue-tooth enabled shower systems and other superior functional products.

But the biggest disruption yet has been in its translation of the overall business strategy to its communication strategy as seen in its latest campaign. Explaining the thought behind the campaign, Aparna Deshmukh, Senior Director Marketing, Lixil South Asia, said, “We want to appeal to upmarket, modern, young urban families. We know that decision making has become more democratised in these families and relationships within the family members have become more friendly, equal and with a lightness of touch. We wanted to appeal to these sensibilities, but marry these insights with the core message of superior functional performance of our products”.
The communications strategy is visible in American Standard’s new campaign. It has developed a creative property of an American Standard family – a young, contemporary, premium family that visually holds the campaign together. The 4 TV executions show the family in different situations that explains the functional superiority of American Standard products in a very engaging, humorous manner that is fresh in this industry.
The campaign includes a national Front-page jacket print ad, 4 TV executions, outdoors and a strong digital push. The TV campaign includes all major national channels with a particular focus on news channels as well as regional channels. The outdoor campaign is over indexed to tier 1 and tier 2 towns to drive incremental reach. “We wanted to create an engaging, approachable and premium brand imagery that drives consumer awareness, store traffic and sales. Judging by the response we have already got, with retail sales climbing over 100% in a category that is growing at 10%, we think we have succeeded.” says Aparna Deshmukh.

The freshness of approach goes beyond traditional media. For the first time in the industry, American Standard has tied up with Mompresso, a leading blogging site for young mothers where core brand messages of health and hygiene are communicated in an appropriate context. Another first in the industry, American Standard has deployed hundreds of handheld devices at the store level. The devices help the consumer navigate the product portfolio, choose products and place orders at the store. Explaining the rationale, Aparna Deshmukh added, “The choices available in this category can be overwhelming for consumers. We have developed a simple tool for consumers to narrow down their choice by design and budget preference. Our tests show this adds real value at the last mile for our shoppers.”

    Salman endorses ‘fully fantastic’ Dixcy

MUMBAI: Dixcy Textiles has rolled out its new advertising campaign. The TVC features the biggest entertainer in Bollywood Salman Khan.

The humorous ad highlights Dixcy Scott’s fit and quality. The film has been conceptualised by Ogilvy Advertising. This is the first campaign for Dixcy Scott after Ogilvy won the account without a pitch process early this year. Salman is seen in a new light in this campaign, as Dixcy Scott moves away from action-oriented campaigns.

Dixcy Scott founder Premji Sikka said, “The brief to the agency was to highlight the fit and quality of the product. While the brand would love to talk about entire range of innerwear, talking about underwear when a celebrity is involved would be a challenge. So, in the ad while Salman is wearing a vest, the agency has managed to include underwear and extend the proposition of ‘Fully elastic, fully fantastic’ to the entire men’s innerwear range.”

Dixcy Scott director Raghul Sikka added, “The campaign is now consumer-focused whereas the earlier campaigns were trade-led.”

Ogilvy South Asia executive chairman and creative chairman Piyush Pandey said, “This campaign marks the return of a lethal combination — Dixcy Scott and Salman Khan. In this campaign, we decided to leverage Salman for his great ability to pull off humour in way that connects with the masses.”

Ogilvy India CEO Kunal Jeswani inserted, “So much advertising today hesitates to deliver a great functional benefit. And the ones that try to do it end up being so boring that consumers show zero interest. This one gets it right.”

Being one of the youngest, big players in the category, Dixcy Scott faces stiff competition from established players.

Madison Media Sigma CEO Vanita Keswani added, “To reach out to consumers effectively and in a holistic way, the campaign will run across TV, print, digital, OOH and theatres countrywide.”
