    MUMBAI: The Global Effie Awards has invited The 120 Media Collective and Sooperfly founder and CEO Roopak Saluja to be part of the jury this year. The awards honor multinational marketing communication efforts that have proven their effectiveness in four or more countries on at least two continents.

    Top global marketers will judge the Global Effie competition this year in Singapore, São Paulo, New York and London. Saluja is slated to attend Round 1 of the jury meet in Singapore on 23 March.

    Saluja drives The 120 Media Collective through its subsidiaries Jack in the Box Worldwide, Bang Bang Films and Sniper. Sooperfly, founded in 2015, most recently entered a joint venture with Vivek Law for personal finance in the online content space.

    Saluja will also present a session titled – Content is King, Distribution is God! – at Adfest 2016 in Pattaya, Thailand on 17 March.

    Rei Inamoto is ADFEST 2015’s Grand Jury president

    MUMBAI:  Worldwide chief creative officer and vice president Rei Inamoto at AKQA has joined ADFEST 2015 as its Grand Jury president.

    Originally from Tokyo and now based in New York, Inamoto has been instrumental in putting AKQA on the map as one of the world’s most formidable agencies whose clients include Audi, Nike and Red Bull, among other leading brands. He oversees AKQA’s creative vision and output globally and played a pivotal role in the agency’s selection as one of Fast Company’s 50 Most Innovative Companies as well as multiple Agency of the Year accolades.

    “The true insight of this highly technological world we live in is this: the most powerful force in our universe isn’t technology, it’s imagination,” said Inamoto.

    He added, “It’s our imagination that allows technology to advance our industry, society and most importantly, humanity. As Grand Jury President of ADFEST 2015, I look forward to witnessing the most imaginative ideas that force us into the next chapter of our universe.”

    Inamoto helped launched AKQA in New York in 2004 and now provides global creative leadership across all of AKQA’s 14 offices. He has been named twice on Creativity Magazine’s annual “Creativity 50”list, was named one of “The Top 25 Most Creative People in Advertising” by Forbes, and was inducted into “The Hall of Achievement” by the American Advertising Federation.  

    “Rei is without doubt one of the most influential thought leaders in the creative industry today. As Grand Jury President, his responsibilities are large – not only will he preside over all 18 Lotus categories, he will also oversee a super panel of Jury Presidents judging the Integrated Lotus, INNOVA Lotus, and the very unique Lotus Roots categories. We can’t wait to welcome him to Thailand next year,” said ADFEST president Jimmy Lam.

    ADFEST 2015 will take place from 19 to 21 March at the Royal Cliff Hotels Group in Pattaya, Thailand.

    AdFest 2014: India brings home 26 metals

    MUMBAI:  At  the Adfest 2014 held at Pattaya in Thailand from 6-8 March, Indian agencies won a total of 26 metals, eight less than last year.

     

    This year, McCann Erikson led the charge with 11 medals, of which three are Gold, five are Silver and three are Bronze.

     

    JWT India and Grey Worldwide followed winning four metals each. Next are TBWAIndia and Creativeland Asia with two metals each and BBDO India, Taproot India and Linen-A Lintas Group with one each.

     

    The most-award winning campaign by McCann was Audiobook – the William Shakespeare/Mark Twain/Oscar Wilde campaign, which received two Golds in the Print Craft Lotus category for Art direction and Best use of illustration; and for Point of Sale: small scale sub category in the Design Lotus category. The campaign also picked up Silvers in Point of Purchase – Display sub category in Outdoor; Poster sub category under Design Lotus and Best Use of Computer Generated Imagery under Print Craft Lotus. In addition to this, it also took home bronze awards in the Press Lotus category under Best of Communication Media & Publications sub category, and Best of Travel, Entertainment & Communication Media sub category in the Outdoor Lotus category.

     

    Apart from this, McCann won a Silver each for its AIDS Awareness campaign under Media Lotus and Big Babol campaign in Best of food sub category under Outdoor. And, it won a Bronze for Rain catching Adshel campaign for Catchtherain.org in the Outdoor category.

     

    Nike’s Parallel Journey’s campaign helped JWT India stuck Gold under Best of sports, fashion cosmetics and luxury goods sub head in Film Lotus. The campaign also got two Silvers in the Film Craft Lotus category. The Health Capital campaign for Rotract Club of Mumbai Shivaji Park in the Direct Lotus category got the agency its single Bronze.

     

    Grey Worldwide picked up a Gold and a Bronze for Duracell Positive & Negative: Dock/Monkey campaign in the Press Lotus and Outdoor Lotus categories, respectively. For another Duracell campaign called Ageless Wonder: Music/Man/Woman the agency was awarded Silver in the Press and Print Craft categories.

     

    Creativeland Asia’s campaign for Frooti helped the agency grab Gold in the Original music score sub category and Bronze for direction under Film Craft Lotus.

     

    TBWAIndia won two Bronze medals for its Adidas Wall cricket campaign under External/street signs and street furniture and Guerrilla marketing sub categories in Outdoor Lotus.

     

    Taproot India’s Times of India’s farmer suicide campaign secured finalists berth in many categories but was only able to win Silver in the Outdoor Lotus category.

     

    BBDO was awarded Bronze for a public awareness campaign Stick It Art under Best use of ambient: small scale sub category in the Media Lotus category.

     

    Lastly, Linen-A Lintas Group was the only Indian agency to get a bronze in the Radio category.

    Dentsu wins three awards at AdFest 2014

    MUMBAI:  Dentsu Inc Tokyo has achieved a triple win at AdFest 2014 by winning Agency of the Year, Agency Network of the Year and Interactive Agency of the Year awards.

     

    AdFest 2014 was held in Pattaya over the last weekend and had ‘Co-Create the Future’ as its theme.

     

    The agency won the three awards in the Special Award category which aim to recognise outstanding agencies, production companies and advertisers and are compiled from the tally of AdFest Lotus Awards won during the festival.

     

    Other agencies which won awards under the category were Hakuhodo Tokyo (Direct & Promo Agency of the Year) and Illusion (Film Production House of the Year, for the second year in a row).

     

    The Advertiser of the Year was presented to Coca-Cola.

     

    AdFest president Jimmy Lam said: “This year’s Lotus winners raise the bar for the industry and are indicative of the trends to come. Over the last three days, AdFest 2014 has welcomed the region’s brightest creative talent to this year’s festival – creatives who will now go on to ‘Co-Create the Future’ together.”

     

    Founded in 1988, AdFest, an annual advertising festival celebrating and raising the standard of creativity, this year the festival aimed to bring together a group of experts that have successfully co-created with others.

     

    This year, 1,063 delegates attended AdFest from 49 cities in 28 countries.

    BANGKOK: Creative leader and entrepreneur Graham Kelly is joining next year’s festival as Jury President of Interactive Lotus and Mobile Lotus.

     

    Kelly is Regional Executive Creative Director at Isobar Asia Pacific, based in Singapore, where he oversees the creative output of 21 offices across 13 markets. Kelly also sits on Isobar’s regional team, working on key multinational accounts and new business development.

     

    “I’m delighted to be joining ADFEST this year. Asia is renowned for ground breaking digital work. Moreover it’s the world’s most dynamic mobile market.  So I’m looking forward to seeing some outstanding creative this year,” says Kelly.

     

    Kelly has been Executive Creative Director (ECD) and Regional ECD at some of the world’s leading advertising agencies including Saatchi & Saatchi, Ogilvy, Leo Burnett, BBH and TBWA. He moved to Asia in 1991.

     

    In August 2010, he co-founded GKIM Pte Ltd, a digital ideas start-up that works with agencies, brands and inventors. The company’s 3D colouring app, ‘Color the World’ has earned plaudits and extensive media coverage.

     

    While launching GKIM, Kelly also worked as National ECD for OgilvyOne India until November 2012, joining Isobar as Regional Executive Creative Director, Asia Pacific, six months later.

     

    Kelly’s work has won awards at the world’s most prestigious advertising shows, and he has judged almost every major local show across Asia.  He is also a regular speaker at key advertising events. His most recent speeches have centred on how to use digital – in particular, social media – more creatively.

     

    “Graham’s experience transcends the traditional and digital world, which will hold him in good stead as Jury President of the Interactive and Mobile Lotus categories at ADFEST,” says ADFEST President Jimmy Lam.

    MUMBAI: China chairman & north Asia ECD at JWT Shanghai, Yang Yeo, will be joining next year’s Adfest as jury president for Press Lotus category.

    “Adfest has always been the Asia Pacific region’s prestigious yet fun festival of creativity. A lot of the works that have won recognition here have gone on to inspire the world over. Thus it’s a huge honour being named the jury president for the press category,” said Yeo.

    Yeo has put Chinese advertising on the map by winning China’s first-ever Gold Lion at Cannes for the Adidas Beijing Olympics campaign in 2008. In 2009, JWT Shanghai also won ‘Agency of the Year’ at Adfest – yet another first for a China-based agency. “The theme ‘Co-Create the future’ is very relevant in this digital age that we live in. Consumers of the past were extremely passive, whilst the audience of today has become more active, having the ability to interact, comment, and share instantly. I look forward to entries that successfully use the marketplace as forums to create shared values between the brands and their audiences, so as to deepen their level of engagement, albeit much tougher for press category to do this,” said Yeo.

    On Yeo joining the prestigious jury list, Adfest president Jimmy Lam said, “Yang has a personality to match his huge talent as one of Asia’s most inspiring creatives. He is responsible for creating some of the world’s most awarded print campaigns, which makes him the ideal candidate to lead next year’s Press Lotus jury.”

    MUMBAI: TBWA India has got on board R. Venkatraman (Venky) as creative director. In his new position, Venky will join the creative team in Mumbai, reporting to TBWA India chief creative officer Parixit Bhattacharya.

    With eight years experience in advertising, Venky has worked at Grey Worldwide, Creativeland Asia and BBH India. His brand experience includes Appy Fizz, Mango Frooti, LMN, Johnnie Walker, Red Bull, Kinetic Honda, Café Coffee Day, Gili Jewellery, Movies Now, Vaseline Men and Google.

    In recent years, Venky’s work was shortlisted at Cannes Lions and has won metal at ADFEST, Spikes Asia and GOAFEST. He also holds the accolade of Business World voting him as one of the ‘Top 5 Young Advertising Professionals’ in India.

    Commenting on the appointment, Bhattacharya said, “Venky has a stellar work ethic and a very matured head on his young shoulders. I am hoping that our rich roster of clients will nourish him with new opportunities to create an enviable body of work. Needless to say, by having him around, the laughter index of the agency will rise significantly too.”

    “My quest for work-type fun brings me to TBWA and I am very, very excited to be here,” Venky added. “Now it’s all about turning that excitement into work that will make a difference to the brands we nurture here.”

  • McCann’s Mathew on Adfest jury

    MUMBAI: McCann ECD Rahul Mathew has been picked to be on the Ad Fest 2013 Film Lotus and Radio Lotus jury panel.

    Adfest 2013 will be held during from 17 to 19 March at the Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Hall, Royal Cliff Hotels Group, Pattaya, Thailand.

    Mathew said, “Adfest has been my favourite hunting ground. In fact, my first-ever-international award was a bronze at Adfest. And I also won one of my Grand Prixs there in 2008, incidentally in radio. With Adfest being the first show to be judged in the year, it‘s also the first peek at Asia‘s biggest contenders for the shows to come. So it‘s an exciting show to judge. But with film & radio as my category, it‘s going to be as exhausting as it will be exciting.”

    Mathew has been in advertising for about 15 years, eight of which have been with McCann Mumbai. He has been involved in many award winning campaigns that have gained acclaim at both domestic and international arenas. These include Grand Prixs at the Adfest and New York, and metals and honours at Cannes, One Show, Spikes, Adfest, Clio, London International and Goa fest. He has also been ranked amongst the top five creative professionals in India in 2009 by Campaign Brief Asia and was ranked the 8th most awarded copywriter in Asia (as per Haymarket Publications and Campaign Asia) in 2012.
