McCann Worldgroup’s Ben Lilley talks about creativity at Adfest 2016

MUMBAI: ADFEST is pleased to announce that Ben Lilley, Chairman and CEO of McCann Worldgroup Australia, is joining the line-up at ADFEST 2016.

Lilley presides over one of the region’s most awarded agencies, McCann Australia – the agency behind the multi-award winning ‘Dumb Ways to Die’ campaign of 2012. At ADFEST this year, he will present a session titled: ‘Is the Creative Team Dead? Or has it just been hipsterized?’
“Technology has disrupted everything, including now, it seems, the creative team. Or has it? Just as there’s ‘no I in team’, there’s no ‘I’ in technology either. Agency teams remain as vital as ever to developing original, compelling and effective ideas,” says Lilley.

So has the creative team really changed? This session will examine what exactly a successful agency team should look like these days.

Lilley started out as a creative with some of Australia’s most respected agencies, including George Patterson, McCann and DDB, before launching his own agency SMART in 2000.
Described by AdNews as “one of the best known independent advertising success stories in Australia”, SMART was recognised in theAdNews and B&T Agency of the Year, Employer of the Year, Cannes Lions, Effies, Clios, New York Festivals, BRW Fast100 and numerous other global award shows.

In 2011, SMART was acquired by McCann Worldgroup and Lilley was appointed Australian Chairman and CEO. Within two years, McCann made Australian history as the world’s most awarded agency in the The Gunn Report, Won Report and AdAge Awards Report.

The agency’s campaigns include “Dumb Ways to Die” for Metro Trains, which in 2013 was named the most awarded campaign in Cannes Lions history and one of AdAge’s Top 15 Ad Campaigns of The 21st Century.

In 2014, the agency was awarded its 6th Cannes Grand Prix for V/Line “Guilt Trips”. And in 2015 McCann was Australia’s top ranked agency (and 6th in the world) in the global Warc 100 creative effectiveness rankings.

‘Is the Creative Team Dead? Or has it just been hipsterized?’ takes place on Friday 18th March at 4pm.

  • Roopak Saluja joins speaker line-up at Adfest 2016

Roopak Saluja joins speaker line-up at Adfest 2016

MUMBAI: The 120 Media Collective and Sooperfly founder & CEO Roopak Saluja will present a session on “Content is King. Distribution is God!” at Adfest 2016.

Saluja’s session will examine whether the distribution, monetisation, engagement and promotion of content deserves more focus.

“The wisdom of investing not just in content but in platform creation and longer-term audience building is rapidly striking brands the world over. As we navigate the flux, new business models evolve and hybrid organisations emerge, ones that allow for the building of content brands direct-to-audiences,” says Saluja.

“During my session at Adfest, I’d like to take the audience on a journey to help them see how distribution is emerging as the battleground for engagement. The lines have blurred between platforms and screens, bringing creators and audiences closer together than ever before,” he added.

After beginning his career in account management at Young & Rubicam Budapest, Saluja became an entrepreneur in 2006 with the launch of Bang Bang Films. Post that he launched two other subsidiaries – Jack in the Box Worldwide and Sniper, which now form The 120 Media Collective. Most recently, he launched Sooperfly, a new media company that empowers Asia’s digital video ecosystem by building content brands direct-to-audiences.

“Roopak has successfully switched from advertising to entrepreneurialism and is now leading one of India’s fastest growing content production companies. I think delegates at Adfest this year will learn so much from his session about the art of blurring the lines between communications, entertainment and technology,” said Adfest president Jimmy Lam.

Saluja’s session will be held on 17 March. Adfest 2016 will be held from 16 to 19 March at the Royal Cliff Hotels Group in Pattaya, Thailand.

MUMBAI: Dentsu Inc CD Yoshiro Yagi has been appointed Design Lotus & Print Craft Lotus jury president at Adfest 2016.

“I’m really glad that I can come back to Adfest as the Jury President for Design and Print Craft. I love the different aesthetics that originate in Asia, and I’m very excited about discovering new works created by some of the best designers and art directors in the world,” says Yagi.

Yagi is one of the most internationally awarded art directors in Japan, and perhaps in Asia. After leaving high school temporarily to hone his talents as a rhythmic gymnast, he later discovered his passion for creativity and enrolled at Kyoto University of Art and Design. Not only does he understand the principles of good design, but he also knows when to break the rules, which is why he’ll make such an excellent Jury President of Design and Print Craft at Adfest 2016,” adds Adfest president Jimmy Lam.
