    ESS promotes Kerr and Boswell

    MUMBAI: ESPN Star Sports has promoted Mike Kerr to vice president, sales operations and strategy. Louis Boswell has also moved up, from senior manager to director affiliate sales.

     

    Kerr was previously director of sales operations and strategy and has been with ESPN Star Sports for five years. Based in Singapore, he reports to vice president of advertising sales Charles Less.

     

    Boswell, who previously worked with BBC Worldwide and Discovery Channel Asia, reports to senior vice president, Adam Zecha.

    ESS acquires broadband rights for NBA in Hong Kong

    MUMBAI: Basketball fans in Hong Kong can look forward to some of the best hoop action from the US. ESPN Star Sports (ESS) has netted the acquisition rights to broadcast a larger number of live games of the NBA on PCCW’s now Broadband TV.

    Under the agreement, ESS will broadcast three live NBA matches a week on now Broadband TV. Star Sports will carry live coverage of one match each week on the popular Friday morning time belt while ESPN will broadcast two live matches back to back each Saturday morning. A total of 46 live matches will be broadcast on ESPN while 24 matches will air live on Star Sports.

    ESS coverage of the NBA also includes All-Star Game, All-Star Saturday, one Conference Final and the Finals. PCCW will be the only pay TV operator to broadcast the NBA Finals on ESPN.

    ESS senior VP affiliate sales Adam Zecha said, “Basketball fans in Hong Kong can look forward to some of the best NBA action in the 2004/2005 season. In addition to bringing live matches during the prime Friday and Saturday morning slots, our coverage is supported by a line-up of programming such as NBA Action and Inside Stuff.

    “These shows will cover match highlights, news and information, as well as pre and post match analysis. We are confident that our viewers will enjoy our expanded coverage and the enjoyment of the game we bring to the market.”

    ESPN STAR Sports promotes Adam Zecha to senior V-P of affiliate sales

    SINGAPORE: ESPN STAR Sports (ESS) has announced the promotion of Adam Zecha from vice president to senior V-P, affiliate sales.
     

    Zecha was part of the launch team of the ESS joint venture almost seven years ago. He joined the company in 1996 as director of affiliate sales overseeing the company’s relationships with cable and satellite systems, hotel distribution and syndication sales in 16 markets, primarily countries in South East Asia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Papua New Guinea.

    In 1999, Zecha was promoted to V-P of affiliate sales with the added responsibility of overseeing distribution for Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

    In his role as head of affiliate sales, Zecha has played a role in the consistent growth of ESPN and STAR Sports’ cable and DTH distribution across the region.

    Since 1999, ESPN’s distribution has increased from 46 million to 128 million in January 2003 while STAR Sports’ household numbers have grown from 46 million in 1999 to 57 million in January 2003, a company release says.

    Zecha was with ESPN Asia before the joint venture and prior to that he was with Dow Jones Television Group based in Hong Kong where he assisted in the launch of Asia Business News. He also spent eight years in the advertising and PR industries in Los Angeles, USA and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
