    IBN7 wins big at Laadli Media Award

    MUMBAI: IBN7, India’s channel of impact, has bagged two awards one in the Best Hindi Feature and the other in the Best Investigative News Feature category, at the prestigious Laadli Media Award for Gender Sensitivity 2013. IBN7 has once again proved its supremacy in terms of insightful and impactful reportage in the 24X7 Hindi news space by winning two awards in the Western and Northern region at the grand ceremony held on Friday, 20th December.

    IBN7’s Nishat Shamsi from Mumbai Bureau received the award in the Best Investigative News Feature category for his documentary ‘Yaha Lagti Hai Dulhan Ki Mandi’ which is an investigative report on the heinous practice of selling women like commodities in the Vedhu Samaj of Nanded District of Maharashtra, while Neetu Rana from Delhi received the award in the Best Feature (Hindi) category for documentary ‘Surrogate Maa’ which showcases surrogate mothers from Anand, a small town in Gujarat who come forward to talk about the pain of renting out their wombs.

    The Laadli Media Awards for Gender Sensitivity, by Population First, acknowledges the efforts of the media in promoting public awareness and understanding gender issues through gender-just perspectives, portrayals and analysis programmes, policies, social trends and behaviours.

    MUMBAI: IBN7, India’s channel of impact, has bagged the prestigious Laadli Media Award for Gender Sensitivity 2013, in the Electronic Media category for their documentary ‘Surrogate Maa’ which showcases surrogate mothers from Anand, a small town in Gujarat who come forward to talk about the pain of renting out their wombs. IBN7 reporter and producer, Neetu Rana received the award at a grand function held in the capital on December 20th, 2013 at Chinmaya Mission Auditorium, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.

    Laadli Awards appreciates the work of media towards women empowerment

    MUMBAI: The fifth edition of the Laadli National Media Awards for Gender Sensitivity 2012 -13 for honoring media and advertising professionals was held on 13 December.

     

    The Awards that were instituted in 2007, as part of the media advocacy efforts under the Laadli girl-child campaign, felicitates, acknowledges, recognises and encourages media, journalists and advertising professionals to keep working on gender issues and to draw the attention of the public to their positive efforts in the media with regard to gender sensitive reportage.  

     

    Speaking at the event on Friday, High Court Judge, Justice Chandra Kumar said priority must be given to girl’s education. “The future of mankind depends upon the attitude towards women.” He said the authorities should ensure that there was no discrimination between boys and girls. Kumar later gave away the awards to winners from the southern and eastern regions.

     

    United Nations Population Fund State Programme Officer, Maharashtra, Anuja Gulati regretted that gender inequality pervaded every sphere of life. However, she appreciated the way stories in the media on women were well-balanced and researched as she recalled the way the Nirbhaya incident had been reported.

     

    Laadli Awards director AL Sarada said thanks to the media attention, there had indeed been a change in the way people perceived women. However, much more needed to be done, she said adding that a media monitoring commission would be formed soon.
