ABP News’ ‘Jeetega India’ captures emotions of Indian athletes ahead of Tokyo Olympics

Mumbai: ABP News hosted a special e-conclave ‘Jeetega India’ yesterday (22 July) to mark the occasion of the Olympic Games set to commence from today in Tokyo. At this e-conclave, various honorable dignitaries from the Indian sports fraternity presented their views and expectations on the Tokyo Olympics 2021.

The ‘Jeetega India’ e-conclave witnessed a distinguished line-up of talented and successful Indian athletes, many of whom have previously won at World Championships & Olympic Games. These included P.V. Sindhu, Bajrang Punia, Karnam Malleswari, Gagan Narang, Yogeshwar Dutt, along with the first Indian fencer to qualify for the Olympics, C.A Bhavani Devi, National record holder and Tokyo Olympics-bound race walker, Priyanka Goswami, India’s highest-ranked table tennis player and nine-time Seniors National Champion, Sharath Kamal.

The Olympics has the world’s largest sports audience, and unlike other sporting events, it attracts massive viewership. ‘Jeetega India,’ with its specific focus on the youth, opens up sponsorship opportunities for businesses wanting to interact with a wide range of viewers, the channel said in a statement.

One of the key objectives of this e-conclave was to encourage youngsters to pursue their sporting ambitions and contribute towards the growth of the sporting culture in India, it added.

Speaking about the e-conclave, ABP Network CEO Avinash Pandey said, “The ‘Jeetega India’ e-conclave is the first of many programming initiatives planned for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. At ABP News, we are committed to practicing and exhibiting our journalism in innovative and compelling ways. Our aim with such initiatives is to bring the entire country together in supporting our Olympics-bound athletes and encourage more youngsters to step into the exciting world of sports.”

Winner of multiple Grand Slam titles, Leander Paes spoke on the e-conclave about how COVID-19 would have a massive impact on the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. “Due to a delay of one year, a lot of things have changed. Rankings have changed. Players have had to reinvent themselves, elongate their trainings and what not. For a 100 metre race, athletes have to wait for 4 years for just 9 seconds. But such is life and such is sports. We have to continuously adapt ourselves,” Paes said.

Olympic silver medalist and World Badminton champion P.V. Sindhu revealed at the conclave that Carolina Marin from Spain is her top rival, who is not playing in the Tokyo Olympics. “It is unfortunate that Carolina would not be a part of the tournament. But it is still not going to be easy. This time the challenges will be severe as we are in a very unique situation. Every day, we will have a COVID test. Masks will have to be worn at all times,” Sindhu said.

“I was an underdog during Rio Olympics 2016 but now everyone recognises me and thinks that if I play, I will bring back the medal. So, the pressure is surely there but I just want to play the game with utmost focus,” she added.

Talking about the competition level this year, three-time Wrestling World Championship medalist Bajrang Punia said that most of the participants are very talented and would definitely pose a major challenge, “I would play every match like it is the final one,” he said.

Olympics bronze medalist shooters Yogeshwar Dutt and Gagan Narang had a heart-to-heart conversation with Kapil Dev during the e-conclave. Dutt said with a lot of confidence, “Indian wrestlers are all ready for the tournament and are likely to win at least three medals.”

Every election season, our flagship summit, ‘Shikhar Sammelan’, brings important discourses of the state and the nation to public scrutiny – offering a platform to leaders to put forth their voice and establish a connect with the voters. This time too, these stimulating discussions will be crucial in setting the tone for the upcoming elections.”

    About Shikhar Sammelan

A platform that deliberates on relevant issues of significance to the common people, Shikhar Sammelan provides an opportunity for both the government and opposition to debate on these challenges and outline the way forward.

    Key Highlights:

    1.    Congress General Secretary, Mr. Randeep Surjewala expressed his thoughts on the upcoming elections, “Nitish Kumar is tried, tested, tired, failed, and retired. BJP will dump him as soon as the results are announced,” he said.

    2.    Mr. Shatrughan Sinha said ''If Bihar is my strength, it is also my weakness and I can't remain silent on what is currently going on in Bihar. I appreciated Nitish Kumar when he did good for Bihar but if the captain is being lauded for good, it will be the captain who will receive criticism when the system is flawed."

“Tejashwi is the new energy of Bihar and will change Bihar's picture. He has the power to motivate the youth and the crowd. His rallies have shown his influence on the people of Bihar and the support he has garnered for RJD and Congress.” He added.

    3.    Union Minister Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “If NDA comes to power it will be a double engine government and Nitish Kumar will definitely become the next CM.”

Further defending the poll promise of Bharatiya Janata Party of providing free vaccine of Covid-19 in Bihar, Mr. Prasad added, “Healthcare getting mentioned in election manifesto is a revolutionary step and the free vaccine promise shows the party’s commitment towards people’s health.”

    4.    When Mr. Chirag Paswan was posed with a question on his political ambitions, the young politician said that he does not want to become the Chief Minister of Bihar. Instead, he wants to work for the development and betterment of the people in the state.

  • “Outdated measurement system promoting dramatic reporting on news channels”: ABP Network’s Avinash Pandey

“Outdated measurement system promoting dramatic reporting on news channels”: ABP Network’s Avinash Pandey

NEW DELHI: Recently, Indiantelevision.com came out with a story on the aftermath of the untimely demise of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput and the media circus that followed sharing crucial details of his reported suicide. While many attributed it to the constant race to gain TRPs, some indicated that Indian audience thrives on the unnecessary frivolous drama that channels propagate.

Addressing the same concerns in a virtual fireside chat with Indiantelevision.com founder, CEO and editor in chief Anil Wanvari, ABP Network (earlier ABP News Network) CEO Avinash Pandey stated that another issue forcing Indian news channels to indulge in dramatic reportage is the outdated measurement system deciding the ratings.

“The rating system measures entertainment very perfectly; it may not be measuring news very perfectly. The content sensibilities for different levels of society in India are very different. The NCCS model today is so generalised that there is hardly any scope for good content to thrive. The NCCS A group today, even our drivers could easily qualify for that,” Pandey explained.

“And this is not just for news, in fact. If you look at the overall TV industry, so many unique content channels get zero ratings and eventually closed. It’s not that they don’t have any viewers but the rating (system) today doesn’t reflect their true constituency.”

He added that it is difficult to digest that so many people are searching for and watching content like that on pull mediums but reject that on push mediums.

Pandey agreed that television news industry is heavily dependent on advertisers today and based on ratings, it is evident that ‘song, dance, drama’ works. “Telling story in a dramatised way, literally on the boundary of being frivolous gets you the ratings. That’s the sad part that makes you think that what is the future of doing good journalism on TV in our country?”

Pandey shared that ABP Network, however, is trying its best to steer away from it. “We have stopped regular debates on our channels. When you are keeping a scheduled time for debate, you are forced to pick up a topic, which then leads to agenda pushing. We do not take ads from any fortune-teller or baba or put their content on our channels,” he elaborated.

He insisted that it is trying to adhere to highest quality standards when it comes to reporting and also denied that the channel was insensitive in covering Rajput’s story.

On being prodded about the treatment of Tabhligi Jamat on his channel during the onset of Covid2019 pandemic, Pandey shared that it was a heated time of ‘unprecedented uncertainty’ that led the reporters and anchors to deal with the subject in a different manner, picking up on the reasons that were leading to the spread of the diseases.

He added that the channel is constantly evolving its reportage based on the developments happening in the industry and around the world.

ABP News launches an exciting line-up of shows

NEW DELHI: As quarantine streaming continues to impact viewership patterns across genres, India’s leading Hindi news channel, ABP News, has come up with a fresh line-up of shows, in a pursuit to revamp its content offerings.

Traditionally, primetime television hours on the news-genre have been 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm in India. Most channels have historically received the maximum engagement & viewership during this time-band. However, as a result of COVID-19, most consumers are home-bound – contributing to the changing TV viewership patterns. In fact, viewers are consuming news a lot more during day-time (10:00 am to 2:30 pm), as compared to pre-covid days, thereby strengthening the reach & connect with loyal news viewers.

In a bid to plump up its offerings in this new phase, ABP News is revamping its day-time content line-up, with non-stop riveting shows from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. In this brand-new portfolio of 6 shows over the weekdays, ABP News is airing ABP Reporter – a reporter-led show wherein reporters set the agenda of every-day news; Newsgram – a unique show covering 4 major stories of the day with in-depth analysis from the reporters; Panchnama – a deliberation on top news stories amongst 5 panelists/experts and 4 news anchors; Matrubhoomi – a show that presents news of national importance, and anything that concerns the viewers directly or indirectly; and Reality Report –  a show beaming mesmerising clips from much-anticipated reality shows like Big Boss, Fear Factor: Khatron ke Khiladi, The Voice, etc.

All these shows have been specially-packaged to accommodate the diversified interests of the Indian viewers. Apart from these new offerings, ABP News is adding great value to its popular ongoing show, ‘Saas Bahu Aur Saazish’, in a special collaboration with Star Plus. Through this alliance, ABP News will be bringing exclusive content to its viewers, integrating the best of news & entertainment.

On this brand new offering, ABP Network CEO Avinash Pandey said “The COVID-19 season has significantly transformed the way Indians consume news. Our viewership numbers have witnessed a sharp growth spurt during these times. As our loyal viewers continue to tune into ABP News, the onus is on us to give them the best, newest, and the most novel content.
