  • Abida Parveen to spell sufiana magic on 12 March

    MUMBAI: Music for the soul and duma dum mast qalandar the famous sufi song from none other that the queen of sufiana kalaam, Abida Parveen will deliver her public perfomance on 12 March.

    The public perfomance will be held in Mumbai at the Jamshed Bhabha Auditorium, NCPA. The concert is a fund raising event organised by The Rotary Club Of Bombay.
     

    The donor passes for the concert will be available from 4 March, onwards and are priced at Rs 1500, Rs 2000 and Rs 3000 and are available at Rhythm House, Hiro Music, Bandra and NCPA.

    Rotary Club Of Bombay president Ajay Kanoria said, “We are honoured to have Abida Parveen perform in Mumbai as part of our fund raising efforts. As Rotarians we aim to contribute to the growth and betterment of the less privileged in our community. Our choice of Abida Parveen is a reflection of the Rotary spirit of promoting international understanding and goodwill.”
     
     

    The principal sponsor for the event is ABN Amro Bank and the associate sponsors are Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation and Tata Power.

    Zee’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa travels to Dubai

    MUMBAI: Encouraged by the success of the Hero Honda Sa Re Ga Ma Pa – Golden Voice Hunt, Zee is taking its popular music programme Sa Re Ga Ma Pa to Dubai.

    According to a Zee press release, the cameras will start rolling in Dubai from 10 to 16 January 2004 for the next round of shooting.

    The rounds to be played in this special schedule have been conceived keeping international taste in mind, states the release. The prelim round will start with Song of your Choice (film/non-film song), Sing with Shaan (superhit songs of the last five years), Judges’ Choice and Duet round. The semi finals will have raga based songs (film songs from the last five-ten years based on classical ragas), folk songs, judges’ choice, and sur and taal rounds. The finals will have semi- classical theme rounds (happy- romantic), duet songs, pop songs, non-orchestra, and new compositions by judges.

    The series will showcase the talents of 32 participants from countries like India, Nepal, UK, USA, UAE, South Africa, Mauritius, Singapore, Australia, Pakistan and Canada. The judges include celebrities like Gulam Ali, Zakir Hussain, Abida Parveen, M M Kreem, Jagjit Singh, Trilok Gurtu, O P Nayyar and Runa Laila.

    Sa Re Ga Ma Pa won the Music Programme of the Year award at The Indian Telly Awards 2003 in November.

    Zee Telefilms’ creative director Gajendra Singh has been quoted in a release saying, “We are glad that Sa Re Ga Ma Pa will is being shot in Dubai. The venue is appropriate as it proves to be central for participants from all over the world. Dubai Media City, the heart of Dubai, is the location for the shoot. This place has a state of art architecture and is an important center for media in Dubai”.

    “The auditions for this special schedule were done in countries spanning across the globe and we received a good response from each country. Auditions of more than 500 contestants were done all over the world out of which 32 have been selected for the final show,” he added.
