Set in the tranquil locales of Kashmir, Fitoor is a story of love, longing and obsession that transcends time and age. An adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations, Fitoor is directed by the endowed filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor and starsAditya Roy Kapur, Katrina Kaif, and Tabu in lead roles with an ensemble cast including Rahul Bhatt, Aditi Rao Hydari and evenAjay Devgn in pivotal roles.

Speaking about the movie, director Abhishek Kapoor commented, “Fitoor is a different film trying to capture a different world. It’s a very fantastical story which needed a certain look, specific kind of sets, and a certain kind of lighting. Kai Po Che was mostly shot on real locations, but here, when you make locations and sets from scratch, it’s an entirely different thing. As a director, I don’t want to repeat myself. The challenge is to be versatile.”

In the mystic corners of a valley, Noor (Aditya Roy Kapur) grows up in the shelter of Begum (Tabu) and is completely smitten by her daughter Firdaus (Katrina Kaif). On realizing this, Begum sends Firdaus off to London and urges Noor to be successful in order to win Firdaus. 15 years later, their paths cross and Noor, a successful artist now, is still mesmerized by Firdaus. But, she is now destined to marry Bilal (Rahul Bhatt) at the whims of Begum.

Will their love overcome societal limits as obsession, like they say will always finds its way.

Box Office: ‘Sanam Re’ collections triumph over ‘Fitoor’ in opening weekend

MUMBAI: It has been a dull week and the exhibition trade is at the receiving end despite two films to distribute screens to. T-Series Sanam Re  pipped the Aditya Roy Kapur – Katrina Kaif starrer Fitoor at the box office in the opening weekend.

Sanam Re, a film with no story or script to back it and counting only on its musical score and hearty promotion (after all, it is a T-Series production), does not stir up excitement in the Valentine’s Day weekend as was expected. With the low figure on Friday, the film remained almost static on Saturday. However, boasting of popular music, the film did cash in on Sunday, 14 February, to show a decent improvement. The film ended its opening weekend with figures of Rs 16.3 crore.

Fitoor, where the trade and exhibitors, especially multiplexes, had some expectations because of a decent past record of the director, Abhishek Kapoor, proved to be a pretentious and messed up script borrowed from Charles Dickens’ classic, Great Expectations. A lot of things have been grossly mixed up and confuse the viewer. The casting was a huge mismatch with only Tabu making a mark in a role, which was not really complementary to her reputation. The film improved only slightly on Saturday and Sunday but not enough to matter. It ended its first weekend with a figure of Rs 13.2 crore.

Ghayal Once Again has not been able to make much of a mark. Old fashioned theme with treatment to match and a bad casting hurt the film hugely. With its opening weekend of Rs 21.2 crore, the film just about managed to stay afloat through rest of the week to collect Rs 33.1 crore in its first week.

Sanam Teri Kasam, a hackneyed love story about cancer playing the villain in the romance of a young couple, being a done to death theme, fails to garner audience interest. With its opening weekend of Rs 3.8 crore, it does not add much to the kitty in the remaining four days and ends the opening week with Rs 7.25 crore.

    BHK Bhalla@Halla.com remains a nonstarter.

Saala Khadoos gets a piece of the pie due to poor opposition to add Rs 1.9 crore in its second week thus taking its two week tally to Rs 10.1 crore.

Mastizaade collects Rs 1.05 crore in its second week to take its two week total to Rs 18.7 crore.

Airlift continues to hold its sway at the box office with excellent figures in its third week. The film added a handsome Rs 10.8 crore for its third week taking its three week tally to a healthy Rs 122.1 crore.

Kyaa Kool Hain Hum comes to the end of its run with figures of Rs 20 lakh in its third week to take its three week total to Rs 27 crore.

Tabu replaces Rekha in UTV’s ‘Fitoor’ directed by Abhishek Kapoor

MUMBAI: Director Abhishek Kapoor has put an end to all speculation and confirmed that actress Tabu has replaced Rekha in his upcoming movie titled Fitoor, which is being produced under the UTV Motion Pictures banner.

Kapoor said, “Tabu’s wonderful performances in Indian and international shores are too many to be named. She is an actress who fearlessly goes against the tide and isn’t afraid to break stereotypes. I am honoured to have her in my film.”

UTV Motion Pictures senior vice president Amrita Pandey added, “Tabu has been a part of the UTV family since The Namesake, and most recently in Haider. In both movies, her performance has been the emotional fulcrum of the narrative, and we are very happy to have a chance to work with her again in Fitoor.”

The movie, which also stars Katrina Kaif, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Aditi Rao Hydari, is based on Charles Dickens’ novel Great Expectations.

  • Zindagi campaign breaks the story-telling code

Zindagi campaign breaks the story-telling code

BENGALURU: Zindagi, a premium mass Hindi GEC from the bouquet of Zee Entertainment Enterprises (Zeel), kick-started its marketing campaign with brand films highlighting Zindagi’s channel proposition ‘Jodey Dilon Ko’.

The channel is upbeat about its pan-India launch. “Probably for the first time in the country, a Hindi channel launch is being announced in the south,” said Zeel marketing head (national channels) Akash Chawla in Bengaluru. “We have seen increase in consumption of Hindi entertainment content in the Hyderabad-Bengaluru-Chennai regions in recent times. The south is now an important market for Hindi content,” he added.

The channel has brought on board Askme.com and Fogg as brand partners. “Talks are on with other partners as well, and we are sure to have more brands tying up with us,” revealed a source at Zeel.

The marketing campaign created by FCB Ulka comprises two brand films directed by ‘Kai Po Che’ director Abhishek Kapoor. The objective behind the campaign is to showcase the similarities in different cultures and emotions despite the differences in language, attire and lifestyle of people across the borders.

FCB Ulka NCD KS Chakravarthy said, “The insight behind the whole campaign is as simple as it is powerful – we may come from different countries, different cultures, but our emotions, our joys, our triumphs are all surprisingly similar. And it is this simple human truth that the two launch television commercials capture in a simple, believable manner. The device of literally cutting mid-sentence from one protagonist to the other brings this alive in a vivid manner – and leads beautifully into the summing up thought for the channel, Jodey Dilon Ko.”

Director Abhishek Kapoor added, “My family traces its roots to pre-partition to Pakistan.  I grew up to stories of shared lives and times, subsequently lost to borders. Deep within, there was a heart-felt hope that this cultural legacy would one day find its way back, reunited. My association with Zindagi is a manifestation of this.”

Chawla said, “Zindagi’s brand proposition ‘Jodey Dilon Ko’ has been the key thought around every medium of communication. The storytelling possesses an ability to convey beauty and emotion in a way that no other medium can. The films also use language that is heartwarming with a story that is rich in human elements such that it inspires empathy, makes us think differently, appreciate something more, and understand something more thoroughly. Abhishek Kapoor and FCB Ulka have done a brilliant job of creating profound and touching films that clearly translate our vision on screen. It’s heartening to know that the freshness of this campaign has become the talking point everywhere. The TVCs exhibit our distinct promise of Zindagi being a category creator in the GEC space.”

Detailing the concept behind these films, Akash explained, “The narrative approach adopted in the storytelling begins with a ‘universal truth’ or situation that transcends culture or language. Also, the use of emotion conveyed in every situation portrayed in the brand films plays an important role as it captures the real emotion that we can trust. Viewers want to connect with their innate human nature. We believe that with Zindagi, we have something universally relatable, emotional and powerful to showcase and that is reflected in the films.”

The TV campaign is ably supported by its promotion in print, OOH and digital mediums.

Farhan Akhtar-Abhishek Kapoor back together for Rock On! sequel

The fall-out between Farhan Akhtar and director Abhishek Kapoor seems to be over finally as the duo is ready to rock the big screen once again. They have reportedly reunited for the sequel to their 2008 musical film Rock On!

The script has been finalised by Abhishek and it will be produced by Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment. Reports reveal that Farhan has also been persuaded to take up the microphone for the second time. The friendship between Farhan and Abhishek turned sour after their fall-out over the latter’s Kai Po Che! project.

According to sources, Farhan was the initial choice for Ishaan’s role which was later played by Sushant Singh Rajput. Farhan also gave a miss to the star-studded premiere of the film. To amend the differences Farhan later congratulated the Kai Po Che! team via Twitter and also made a special appearance at the success party of the film.

Presently Abhishek is busy working on Katrina Kaif-Sushant starrer Fitoor which will go on floors in 2014.

  • BO: Kai Po Che picks up pace over weekend

BO: Kai Po Che picks up pace over weekend

MUMBAI: Abhishek Kapoor’s directorial venture Kai Po Che, which opened low and with mixed reports, picked up well over the weekend to collect Rs 168 million for the opening three days. This is generally on the patronage by multiplex audience as at places with single screens shows had to be cancelled due to lack of audience.

Sanjay Dutt and Vivek Oberoi starrer Zila Ghaziabad did not fare as well and managed to collect Rs 104 million in its opening weekend.

The Bhatt camp’s latest offering Murder 3 found little appreciation and resulted in a below average first week with collections of 171.5 million.

Vivek Oberoi’s slack run at the box office continued as his second release this month, Jayantabhai KI Love Story, continued to do poorly. The film managed to collect just about Rs 25 million in its first week.

Special 26 maintained steady collections in its second week to collect Rs 183 million, taking its box-office total to Rs 601 million.

ABCD: Any Body Can Dance held well in its second week to collect Rs 91 million. Its two-week total is Rs 369 million.

Race 2 added Rs 11 million in its fourth week to have box office collections of Rs 975.3 million so far, just shy of being the first movie in 2013 to cross the Rs one billion mark.
