Based on a girl named Meera Sehgal enacted by Mithila Palkar from Dehradhun, the show has been appreciated by many.     It is recently known that the channel has embarked a new show titled bindass Beats in collaboration with Frooti. Sources reveal that the deal between the sponsor and channel will be around Rs 25-28 lakhs.

    Spreading dancing as a happy mantra, the one hour long show airs on the channel every Saturday at 9 am and every Sunday at 12 pm on bPlay. Both the platforms will have different music and packaging based on the theme of happy life, happy music.

    In a move to increase viewers’ participation, the channel has also initiated an interesting activity. Viewers can make their own #‎MangoBango dance video and upload on Facebook and tag @Frooti and can get a chance to win exciting goodies.

    Q1-2016: PVR PAT improves more than sevenfold; to raise Rs 500 crore

    BENGALURU: Indian motion picture exhibition, production and distribution house PVR Limited (PVR) reported more than sevenfold increase in profit after tax (PAT) in the quarter ended 30 June, 2015 (Q1-2016) as compared to the corresponding year ago quarter. 

     

    PVR’s PAT for Q1-2015 was Rs 58.45 crore (12 per cent of Total Income from Operations or TIO), while in Q1-2015, it was Rs 7.66 crore (2.1 per cent of TIO). The company had reported a loss of Rs 35.66 crore in the immediate trailing quarter (Q4-2015) citing impact by poor movie content and World Cup Cricket towards the end of FY-2015. 

     

     Note:  100,00,000 = 100 lakh = 10 million = 1 crore

    All numbers are consolidated unless stated otherwise.

     

    Additionally, PVR’s board of directors has also approved to raise a sum of Rs 500 crore by issuing Non Convertible Debentures (NCD) subject to approval by the members of the company in the forthcoming Annual General Meeting.

     

    The board also approved the scheme of merger of PVR Leisure Limited and Lettuce Entertain You Limited with the Company.

     

    Approval was also given for the allotment of 50,00,000 equity shares priced at Rs 700 per share of face value Rs 10 each equity share at a premium of Rs 690 per share aggregating to Rs 350 crore on preferential basis to Plenty Cl Fund I Limited, Multiples Private Equity Fund II LLP and Plenty Private Equity Fund I Limited.

     

    Box Office performance

     

    This quarter has seen the release of some hits and super hits like Tanu Weds Manu Returns (Gross Box Office or GBO Rs 46.9 crore, 25 lakh admits, Average Ticket Price or ATP Rs 185); Piku (GBO Rs 27.7 crore, 15 lakh admits, ATP Rs 186); Fast and Furious 7 (GBO Rs 26.6 crore, 15 lakh admits, ATP Rs 174); ABCD2 (GBO Rs 23.4 crore, 13 lakh admits, ATP Rs 183); and Avengers-Age of Ultron (GBO Rs 24.4 crore, 13 lakh admits, ATP Rs 182) that have driven the resurgence in revenue as well as PAT.

     

    Net Box Office (NBO) collections in the current quarter increased 34.96 per cent to Rs 274.19 crore from Rs 203.16 crore in Q1-2015. Q1-2016 saw admits increasing by 25 per cent to 1.9 crore with an occupancy of 38 per cent as compared to 1.52 crore with an occupancy of 32 per cent in Q1-2015. ATP in the current quarter also improved to Rs 183 from Rs 176 in Q1-2015.

     

    While the share of NBO as percentage of TIO has gone up fractionally in Q1-2016 to 59.3 per cent (Rs 249.12 crore) from 59.2 per cent (Rs 197.61 crore) in Q1-2015, Food and Beverage (F&B) share has gone up to 28 per cent (Rs 117.87 crore) from 25.9 per cent (87.04 crore) in Q1-2015, advertising share has dropped in percentage terms but increased in value terms to Rs 41.62 crore (9.9 per cent) in the current quarter from Rs 35.2 crore (10.2 per cent) and others contribution has dropped to 2.8 per cent (Rs 12 crore) from Rs 14.95 crore (4.5 per cent).

     

    Let us look at the other numbers reported by PVR

     

    The company has reported positive results in Q1-2015 from all its revenue generating segments, which include movie exhibition, movie production and distribution as well as ‘Others,’ which includes bowling, gaming and restaurant services, etc. As a matter of fact, the ‘Others’ segment has returned an operating profit of Rs 0.82 crore in Q1-2016 as compared to operating losses of Rs 2.46 crore and Rs 1.46 crore in Q1-2015 and Q4-2015 respectively.

     

    TIO in Q1-2016 at Rs 486.02 crore was 34.2 per cent more than the Rs 362.26 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter and was 62.3 per cent more than the Rs 299.55 crore in Q4-2015.

     

    Net F&B revenue increased by 45.9 per cent in Q1-2016 to Rs 129.79 crore from Rs 88.97 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter. Spend per head has increased 16 per cent to Rs 74 in Q1-2016 from Rs 63 in Q1-2015. The company says that it has managed to lower the cost of goods and sold (COGS) by 4.1 per cent in Q1-2016 to 24.9 per cent from 29 per cent in Q1-2015.

     

    PVR’s sponsorship revenue has gone up 27.5 per cent to Rs 45.69 crore in Q1-2016 from Rs 35.84 crore in Q1-2015. The company says that eight blockbusters in the quarter helped maximizing revenues namely Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Fast & Furious 7, Piku, Avengers, ABCD2, Jurassic World, Dil Dhadakne Do and Gabbar is Back.

     

    Total expense in Q1-2016 at Rs 402.77 crore (82.9 per cent of TIO) was 19.6 per cent more than the Rs 336.68 crore (92.9 per cent of TIO) in Q1-2015 and was 28.2 per cent more than the Rs 314.12 crore (104.9 per cent of TIO) in the immediate trailing quarter.

     

    The company’s film exhibition cost increased 30 per cent to Rs 113.69 crore (23.4 per cent of TIO) in Q1-2016 as compared to the Rs 87.48 crore (24.1 per cent of TIO) in Q1-2015 and increased a massive 80.6 per cent as compared to the Rs 62.96 crore (21 per cent of TIO) in Q4-2015.

     

    F&B and other cost in Q1-2016 increased 25.2 per cent to Rs 34.59 crore (7.1 per cent of TIO) as compared to the Rs 27.63 crore (7.2 per cent of TIO) in Q4-2015. 

     

    Other expense in Q1-2016 increased 33.8 per cent to Rs 37.72 crore (7.8 per cent of TIO) as compared to the Rs 28.20 crore (7.8 per cent of TIO) in Q1-2015, but was 16.9 per cent lower than the Rs 45.38 crore (15.1 per cent of TIO) in the immediate trailing quarter.

    ‘Baahubali’ win hearts at the box office

    MUMBAI: Special effects and quality of sound design have worked for Baahubali (dubbed) in the Hindi belt too where normally South actors and dubbed versions are not readily accepted. The audience seems to notice little else as the many glitches in the movie have not mattered to the viewers. The film collected a decent Rs 4 crore plus on the opening day and improving it over the next two days to end its opening weekend with a reasonable Rs 20.15 crore.

     

    On the other hand, I Love NY, a dated film starring Sunny Deol and Kangana Ranaut, was an effort to cash in on Ranaut’s recent popularity following a few hits. The film, which was almost written off by the investors themselves, was not accepted by moviegoers either.

     

    I Love NY was released without much fanfare or promotion but only proved that not releasing it at all would have been more economical. The film’s collections on all three day in its first weekend remained poor failing to cross the Rs 1 crore mark on any day. It ended its weekend with figures of Rs 1.55 crore.

     

    Guddu Rangeela has proved to be a loser. Having collected a little over Rs 5 crore for its first weekend, the film has barely managed to add another Rs 2 crore plus to account for its first week figure of Rs 7.75 crore.

     

    Second Hand Husband proves to be loser with a poor weekend and a poorer follow up through rest of its first week to collect a just Rs 2.6 crore.

     

    Bezubaan Ishq is a total loss plus experiment as the film manages to collect barely Rs 2.55 crore against an investment of Rs 18 crore.

     

    Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho adds Rs 7 lakh in its second week to take its two week total to Rs 1.47 crore.

     

    ABCD2 holds well in its third week to collect Rs 7.2 crore and taking its three week total to Rs 103.25 crore.

     

    Hamari Adhuri Kahani collects Rs 25 lakh in its fourth week to take its four week total to Rs 32.55 crore.

     

    Tanu Weds Manu Returns collects Rs 75 lakh in its seventh week to take its seven week tally to Rs 152.71 crore.

    ‘ABCD2’ in 3D will bring out the best in Indian dancing: Shraddha Kapoor

    NEW DELHI: For Shraddha Kapoor, who had made a mark with Aashiqui 2, dancing in a film like ABCD2 did not come easy but she surprised her fellow cast members including Varun Dhawan when she attempted to match their energy.

     

    Kapoor is particularly grateful to Remo Fernandes for training her for this sequel to the earlier ABCD, which came in 2013. The film also stars Lauren Gottlieb, Raghav Juyal and Dharmesh Yelande in supporting roles. The movie is directed by Remo D’Souza and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapoor under the banner of UTV-Disney Pictures.  

     

    The story explores the real life struggle of of four boys Rohit, Pavan, Suresh and Vernon who are part of a dance institute named Fictitious Dance Academy and take up the challenge to win the World Hip-Hop dance championship.

     

    Belonging to a non-dancer background, Kapoor, who has earlier also acted in Ek Villain, said at a press meet here that she sweated it out really hard and proved that actually ‘Any Body Can Dance’.

     

    Kapoor proved her dancing mettle in the song ‘Sun Sathiya,’ which was also there in the original film where Lauren Gottlieb danced to the tunes of this catchy number.

     

    Asked about the challenges she faced, she said, “It was really hard for me to match the energy of other dancers as all of them had taken training somewhere. I did learn a bit of dancing at my school days but had never taken any proper training for the same. The film has changed my life and my body completely. Before this I use to dance in bathroom, in front of mirror, in my room or at birthday parties. I always wanted to dance openly on stage but somewhere I was under-confident or shy to dance in front of so many people. This is all because of Remo sir that he made me confident enough to give my best and whatever positive comments I am getting for my work will made Remo sir proud.”

     

    The film also features the song ‘Bezubaan’ from the original film, which was a hit among the masses and is now titled as ‘Bezubaan Phirse,’ where the stars show the best of their dance moves.

     

    Dhawan plays the character of Suresh in the film and features in the recently released song ‘Chunar.’ Asked why he agreed to star in the film, he said, “As an actor, you always listen to the script first, but Remo sir did a very unique thing. He showed me the documentary of ‘Fictitious Group’ who also participated in India’s Got Talent. He showed us footage of dancers from America, China and different countries. When it was announced that India was participating in the global talent series and made it to the finals, I felt so proud and patriotic. I got really emotional and that is why I said yes to it.”

     

    Raghav Juyal who gave birth to the slow motion dance shared his knowledge of dance with the audience. He is often called as Crockroax, which is an amalgamation of being powerful like a crocodile and creepy like a cockroach. “Earlier people used to mock at the dancers and call them as ‘Nachaniya’ but now value is being attached with dancing as an art. This kind of revolution is shown in the film and I would just say that parents should support their children and as I always say Fame is a devil and art is an angel. Fame will come and go but art will always be within.”

     

    Asked why is Disney was attached with ABCD2 as the story did not give any fairy tale kind of feeling, Disney India vice president and head, marketing & distribution – studios Amrita Pandey said, “It is a very inspiring story about an underdog dance troupe and has strong emotion of heart. When you’ll watch the film, you’ll see that it is not only about fun and dance. ABCD2 inspires you and Disney always promotes stories, which inspires you in a way or the other.”

    Zee Music Company acquires music rights of UTV-Disney & Balaji’s films

    MUMBAI: Zee Music Company (ZMC), which completes a year of operations, has acquired the music rights of UTV-Disney and Balaji Motion Pictures’ upcoming movies for the year 2015-16.

     

    ZMC will be releasing the music for Disney’s ABCD2, UTV’s Fitoor and Katti Batti and Balaji Motion Pictures’ Flying Jatt and Kya Super Kool Hai Hum 3.

     

    ZMC head Anurag Bedi said, “It has been a phenomenal year for us and we are very happy with our decision to enter the music space. We are elated to be associated with two of the finest studios – UTV Disney and Balaji Motion Pictures – who have consistently delivered successful movies and music over the years. Meanwhile, we continue to work towards a fantastic year ahead with an exciting line-up of movies starting this summer.     Disney announces ‘ABCD 2’

    MUMBAI: Post the success of India’s first ever 3D dance movie ABCD – Any Body Can Dance, a youthful and vibrant film which became a nation-wide phenomenon garnering critical acclaim and box office, Disney India’s studio business today announced its sequel ABCD 2, directed by Remo D’Souza.

     

    The second chapter of the movie promises to be even bigger in scale with the current heartthrobs Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead along with Prabhu Dheva. Inspired from the true story of an Indian dance troupe that participated in the world Hip Hop Championships, this movie is slated to be shot extensively in Las Vegas, with over 10 songs and extravagant dance sequences that will add grandeur to the exciting script

     

    The film will go on floors in July.
