Aamir Khan’s PK to release during Christmas

MUMBAI: Aamir Khan fans have been waiting with bated breath for his next PK directed by Raj Kumar Hirani. When the two of them joined their hands earlier, the outcome was the blockbuster 3 Idiots. But the wait for the fans is going to be longer as an official statement reveals that the film that was supposed to be released in June, will now release during Christmas.

We wonder the cause behind pushing the movie ahead by more than six months as earlier it was supposed to release in June. Is it because Aamir’s Christmas releases usually turn out to be blockbusters? It could be a possible reason.

Interestingly, the Christmas week will also see the release of Anurag Kashyap’s ambitious project, Bombay Velvet starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma. With two big releases with similarly big stars, we just hope the industry does a good business.

  • AAP a big draw for media professionals

AAP a big draw for media professionals

MUMBAI: As a fledgling party which emerged from the larger ‘India against Corruption’ movement, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had already captured a nation’s imagination.

But when it made a splash at the Delhi Assembly Elections, going on to form the government in the national capital, it made seasoned politicians sit up and take notice as well.

And just in case you thought there was no public relations mechanism behind the phenomenal success of AAP, you couldn’t be more wrong. The party has been a magnet for media professionals ever since its inception with many known names coming forward to support it and in some cases, even going on to join politics.

For instance, the media campaign for the Jan Lokpal Bill was the brain child of former media professional Shaizia Ilmi. Manish Sisodia, who played a key role in the foundation of the anti corruption bill and went to jail with activist Anna Hazare is a former journalist who worked with Zee News and All India Radio. Ditto for Rajan Prakash, who worked as a journalist in TV, print and radio for more than a decade apart from helping write the scripts of over 12 documentaries as well as radio programmes before finding his political calling. At 26, former journalist Rakhi Birla, who won Delhi’s Mangol Puri constituency, is the only woman in Arvind Kejriwal’s cabinet and the youngest one at that. The much talked about addition to AAP has been that of Ashutosh, former IBN7 managing editor who left a high-profile job to join the party.

So what is it about AAP that is encouraging the media fraternity to enter the political circus?

“It’s their honesty which I support,” says Leo Burnett NCD K V Sridhar (Pops) who tweeted and facebooked his support to AAP and joined it through its massive ‘Mai bhi Aam Admi’ campaign that lets anyone be a part of the ‘change’. “Until and unless they make mistakes or become like the others, they have my support,” he adds.

Former COO of Star Network now turned media entrepreneur Sameer Nair, who joined AAP last year, believes any professional with the right principles would support the party. “We all want corporate governance, financial stability, anti corruption amongst all the correct ingredients to run the country in a better way,” he says, pointing out that the Right to Recall is a basic right as one shouldn’t take his/her seat lightly once elected for five years by the junta. “Every day, media professionals walk into the AAP office to support it or help in whatever way they can. We need such enthusiasm from people,” Nair says, stressing that the party needs the expertise of professionals from all walks of life to work together and create a better nation.

Political analyst Dr Suhas Palshikar feels AAP is a refreshing change from the rest. “There are many who want to see a change in the country and the new party brings with it new ideas. It has provided people, especially the middle class, a platform to be part of a change and voice their opinion,” he says.

Writer-entrepreneur-youth expert Rashmi Bansal, who met Kejriwal in 2009 and featured him in her 2011 book ‘I have a Dream’ feels that media professionals have a close-up view of such issues which is why they get more drawn to it. “Media professionals know what goes on behind the scenes and they see AAP as a different entity which will not only hear them but also give them a voice and a platform to make the change they want to see,” she says.

And the list of supporters keeps growing… Late Jaspal Bhatti’s wife Savita Bhatti, Mallika Sarabhai, Tejaswini Kolhapure, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan all believe the party can bring about a change…

  • ‘Satyamev Jayate 2’ to kick start soon

‘Satyamev Jayate 2’ to kick start soon

MUMBAI: He isn’t the Mr Strategist and Perfectionist of Bollywood for no reason. This time around actor Aamir Khan has made sure that the second season of his TV show – Satyamev Jayate, the shooting of which began recently, remains in the news throughout the year.

The season one of the show highlighted the social evils and also brought to the light the sufferings that people at large go through because of those. While the second edition is again set to bring forth the evils of the Indian society that’s becoming a hindrance in the country’s growth, the actor has devised a plan to give the audience enough time to execute the ideas promoted through the show in reality. The 12-episode show, this time, would be presented in installments – four episodes at the beginning of the year, four mid-year and the last four at the year end.

While the other details are still being worked upon, what has come out is that the season is set to kick start soon with an episode focusing on the plight of rape victims. The episode has already been shot at the Yash Raj Studios and the actor has requested the audience present at the shoot to keep the details to themselves.

The TV audience are set to witness some life-changing incidents, it seems.

Aamir Khan dreams of making a film on Maulana Azad

KOLKATA: Claiming that he has read Maulana Azad’s books, Aamir Khan said it is his dream to make a film on his great grand uncle Maulana Abul Kalam Azad someday.

“I hope that someday I will be able to use my art to make a film on his life. It is my dream to do that. I wish I had met him, known him. I have read his books drinking in every word,” Khan said after the inauguration of the Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival in Kolkata.

He further added that Azad had an extremely progressive and fertile mind.

Sitaram Sharma, chairman of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, said that full support would be given to the actor-producer for his film.

Reminiscing what Maulana Abul Kalam Azad told his uncle and director Naseer Khan, the actor further said, “had Naseer not got support from Azad, he would never have been in the film industry.”

“My father came into films because of my uncle. Had my father not been into films, probably I would have been somewhere else today,” he further said.

“Just do what your heart says,” was the message Azad had given to his uncle and director Naseer Khan when he wanted to make films. Aamir said and ironically this was the message of his super successful film 3 Idiots too.

Big B is the undisputed king on Twitter among Bwood celebs

MUMBAI: In his career spanning more than four decades, no actor has been able to surpass the craze of Amitabh Bachchan. According to the “Bollywood Twitter Index”, a social media analytics report released by To The New, a leading digital services ecosystem in India, AB has been crowned the undisputed king of Twitter among his Bollywood counterparts.

Making an appearance at number five, Priyanka Chopra is the only actress in the top five Indian movie celebrities’ list.

Despite gaining the maximum number of followers over the last one year with 151 per cent increase, Bollywood’s Dhak-Dhak girl, Madhuri Dixit narrowly missed making it to the list this year. She was nudged out by B-town fashionista, Sonam Kapoor, who hung on to the number 10 position with an 87 per cent increase in followers since last year.

Stranded Evelyn boards an overnight train to reach for work on time

MUMBAI: Some Bollywood stars are known to go out of the way to accommodate their producers, sometimes braving risks and weather. We often hear such episodes of professionalism about Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. Joining the list now is actor Evelyn Sharma, who became popular with Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

Recently, while she was on her way to shoot for DivyaKhosla Kumar’s Yaariyan in Darjeeling and Sikkim, Evelyn’s flight was rerouted from Bagdogra to Guwahati airport because of a bad storm, leaving her stranded alone with her luggage.

Since the shooting was scheduled for next day, Evelyn decided to take an overnight train from Guwahati to Siliguri to reach her sets on time as she thought it would be a big hassle for any producer to reschedule location shoots.

“Luckily, God sent an angel to help me. The person guided and guarded me throughout the journey – from going to the railway station, arranging for a ticket on a completely booked train, guarding me for 10 hours on the journey, inviting me for lunch in Siliguri and safely dropping me to the car which brought me to the shoot in Sikkim,” revealed Evelyn though concealing the name and gender of this ‘angel’.

“Without the timely help, I would have been lost in Guwahati, as my phone was dead and the flight personnel did not help at all,” she adds.

The entire film crew was impressed with Evelyn’s bravery of taking the train alone at night, just to make sure she reaches on time.

Yaariyan is the directorial debut of T-Series’ head honcho Bhushan Kumar’s wife Divya Khosla Kumar and releases on 31 January next year.
