    Star Plus’ trip to spooksville ‘Kaalchakra’ debuts 19 November

    MUMBAI: Seems like the attack of the thrillers. Tonight Star Plus debuts its latest supernatural thriller Kaalchakra.

    Starring Nausheen Ali Sardar in a triple role, the weekly premieres at 10:30 pm. Launching a while before Kaalchakra at 9 pm will b e Sony Entertainment Television India’s Aahat 2. SET’s sequel to its popular Aahat franchise is also coming as a weekly.

    Kaalchakra, a remake of a Latin teledrama, has Sardar playing the role of a mother as well as of her twins.

    Sardar is perhaps the first television actress to don a triple role in a new serial, informs a media release.

    Speaking about her role, Sardar says: “It is a challenging role because I am playing the mother of twins. So there is plenty of scope for me to perform as all three characters are different entities.”

    “While one of the twins is a goody-goody character, the other will have grey shades. Since, this is the first time that I am going to play a character with grey shades, I am really excited and looking forward to see how my fans will react,” she adds.

    In Kaalchakra, Nausheen’s motherly character is only for a short span of time before the twins take center stage in the serial. The twins love interests are being played by Manav Singh and Mukul Dev.

    Sardar, who established herself with the title role in SET’s flagship soap Kkusum, has recently acted in a Pakistani Serial Ana, with Humayun Saayeed. She is very upbeat about her two serialsKaalchakra and Ana, which will be aired simultaneously in India and Pakistan, says the release.

    MUMBAI: It’s back to spooksville! Sony is all geared to debut Aahat2, which marks the return of its popular supernatural thriller series Aahat, on Friday, 19 November 2004 at 9 pm.

    Produced by Fireworks, Aahat 2 is being brought in to further beef up Sony’s strong Friday franchise.

    Originally launched in October 1995, Aahat was touted as one of the popular shows in its genre on Indian television. Aahat 2 promises much more with a whole new look, new characters, reputed faces and new spine chilling stories, says a company release.

    BP Singh, the maker of C.I.D and Aahat, has donned the hat of producer-director for Aahat 2 as well.

    Commenting on the launch of Aahat 2, BP Singh is quoted in the release as saying, “Suspense, the supernatural and thrilling stories have always found a huge fan following amongst Indian audiences. Aahat 2 will cater to this need with its’ edge of the seat, spine-chilling series.”

    According to SET vice president, programming and response, Tarun Katial, “Sony Entertainment Television has always explored programming with new concepts and genres, providing a well-balanced mix of innovative shows appealing to every member of the family. Aahat has been one of the most successful and popular properties on the channel and Aahat 2 also promises to grip the viewers, further strengthening the channel’s franchise on Fridays.”

    Aahat 2 comprises of episodic short thriller stories. The show has always catered to a wide spectrum of the audience universe providing a vast arena of experiences. The essence of Aahat 2 is tight plotting and scripting, taut dramatic scenes and a frantic roller coaster pace. All this is seasoned with spine tingling suspense and the legendary ‘Aahat’ twist, adds the release.

    Friday spells war on Star Plus and Sony

    MUMBAI: Star Plus and Sony seem to be spewing a war on Friday. Come 19 November and Plus will weave in two shows at 9:30 pm and 10:30 pm slot – the relaunch of Khul Ja Sim Sim and a new show Kaal Chakra.

    Sony’s big-ticket show Indian Idol will also be launching it’s ‘results special’ on Fridays which is scheduled to air next week, from 9:30 – 10 pm. Plus’ Khul Ja Sim Sim will be taking on Idol as well as Sony’s stellar show CID at 10 pm. .

    Sony is also replacing Devi with Aahat 2 at the 9 pm slot on Fridays. To counter this move, Star Plus is moving Shararat from 9:30 pm to the 9 pm slot. Similarly, Karma on Star has been pushed to 8 – 9 pm slot to take on Sony’s KKoi Dil Mein Hai at 8:00 PM and Saaksshi at 8:30 pm.

    A war is also brewing in the 10.30 pm band. Riding on Idol, Sony is launching a new show in December. Star Plus is not lying idle. Kaal Chakra, a weekly soap, will air from 19 November.

    With Plus and Sony beefing up their line up, the battlefield seems to be shifting to Fridays. Is this the beginning of Plus’ response to Idol’s success?
