Tiger Shroff joins 6 Pack Band 2.0 for mental disability awareness

MUMBAI: Being differently abled is not a choice, however, acceptance certainly is. And the youth film studio of Yash Raj Films, Y-Films, launched India’s first ‘Isspeshal band’, the Red Label 6-Pack Band 2.0 comprising of six teens between the ages of 13 to 18 with special needs but incredible music skills, drive and passion in partnership with Brooke Bond Red Label with exactly that as an agenda – to build awareness and acceptance on mental health and disability.

Bollywood actor and youth icon Tiger Shroff has joined hands with them to get the message out there to as many people as possible.

Commenting on this, Shroff says, “Children are our future and it was so inspiring to get to know and perform with the 6-Pack Band. I love how each one of them takes each day as it comes with a smile. I think all of us can learn how to be more patient, understanding and accepting of all our differences and make this world a more inclusive place.”

The ad urges people to open their minds against biases, prejudice and accept people irrespective of their differences. The music video featuring Shroff has actually been inspired by a real-life incident involving a differently abled person who was bullied; an experience that most special needs people and their parents have been through at some stage.

Hindustan Unilever Brooke Bond Red Label general manager adds, “Brooke Bond Red Label believes in urging people to question their prejudices and open their minds to the possibilities that a more accepting world open up. We are delighted about the launch of Brooke Bond Red Label 6 Pack Band 2.0’s next song which is yet another call for a more inclusive world.”

Mindshare president of client leadership Amin Lakhani mentions, “Changing mindset is a steady and gradual process and with this number we strive to get closer to doing just that. Having a personality like Tiger Shroff on board, embracing, motivating and loving these kids with sheer genuineness is just what we needed to drive our message even more strongly.”

  • Neha Kakkar pays Tribute to Friendship with Mindshare, Y-Films & Brooke Bond Red Label’s 6 Pack Band 2.0

Neha Kakkar pays Tribute to Friendship with Mindshare, Y-Films & Brooke Bond Red Label’s 6 Pack Band 2.0

MUMBAI: Neha Kakkar, one of the most popular singers of this generation, known for her chartbusters like Chull, Kaala Chashma, London Thumakda and more has now extended support for mental health & disability by cutting a new single with a special needs band. The band created by Mindshare & Yash Raj Film’s youth wing Y-Films, titled Brooke Bond Red Label 6-Pack Band 2.0 comprises 6 differently abled teens with incredible music skills. And the track, ‘The Isspeshal Yaar Song’ celebrates the friends who stand by you in times of need and otherwise.

Speaking about her collaboration, Neha said, “When I was first introduced to the band, I couldn’t believe the talent that I saw. They are such sweet kids, filled with innocence. In the few hours that I spent with them, all I remember was being happy. I wish our whole world was filled with isspeshal friends like these, then it would certainly be a much better place!”

Mindshare India, President, Client Leadership, Amin Lakhani added, “The third song in the life of 6 Pack Band 2.0 is a heartening take on friendship. Despite the fact that the society turns a blind eye towards these special kids, especially at the playground, these kids always find a way to make friends. This celebration of true friendship is stupendously encapsulated in Neha Kakkar’s  melodious voice and the sweet moments of fun and fulfillment between our 6 lovely band members. I’m sure this song will give you goosebumps and would encourage everyone to take that first step of friendship towards these truly ‘Isspecial’people!

Reiterating Brooke Bond Red Label’s commitment to this inclusive initiative, Hindustan Unilever, General Manager, Beverages, Shiva Krishnamurthy said, “With each new song, Brooke Bond Red Label 6-Pack Band 2.0 is highlighting a relevant and significant aspect about the differently abled. This resonates with Brooke Bond Red Label’s credo of celebrating togetherness irrespective of gender, age, ability or disability. Everyone needs friends, so saluting friendships with these talented young people is special for us too.”

The music video for the song was made special courtesy a trip to the fantastic Imagica Adlabs Amusement Park. The band with their best friends spent a day on rides, attractions and more. From rollercoasters, Gold Rush Express, Tubby Take Off to the newly opened celebrity museum, Snow Park and yummy food to boot, it became the perfect location to celebrate friendship. Adlabs Imagica, Director, Mrs. Pooja Shetty Deora, added, “We are proud to have hosted the kids from the 6 Pack Band 2.0 and their friends during this shoot, it was a lot of fun and learning. We must make space for those that are differently abled to have a society that is fair and equal to all.”

The music video directed by ace Bollywood choreographer Adil Shaikh is triggered by the insight that often the biggest challenges people with special needs face, are not in the classroom, but on the playground. That of making friends and keeping them. That’s why those who stick it out with them, and stand up for them are isspeshal. So the video features photographs of people with special needs with their best friends from around the world including Singapore, US, UK, Australia and various parts of India. Some of the special needs children, in fact, even just sent in a picture with their pet as they considered them their best friends.

Head of Y-Films, Ashish Patil said, “We couldn’t have found a better yaar than the supremely talented Neha Kakkar to make this 6 Pack Band 2.0 song even more isspeshal. Neha helped us celebrate those isspeshal friends from across the globe who help make this world a better place!”

Mindshare & Y-Films ka Brooke Bond Red Label Band 2.0 features Ananya, Anjali, Maitreya, Parth, Prerna & Rishaan. The songs are written by Kumaar and composed by Shameer Tandon who is also the curator of the project. 6-Pack Band 2.0 is conceived & produced by Ashish Patil and this is their 3rd single and music video. The songs are showcased on Y-Films’ YouTube channel and available on all popular music platforms. Their previous collaborations include a launch by Karan Johar and a collaboration with Vishal Dadlani. There are 3 more singles to follow. Hopefully this campaign will help take one step forward in creating greater awareness for mental health & disability and push people to take the effort to make friends with people with special needs.

  • Brooke Bond’s new campaign features differently abled teens

Brooke Bond’s new campaign features differently abled teens

MUMBAI: The ignorant often refer to people with special needs as ‘paagal’ or ‘mad’. Y-Films, the youth films wing of Yash Raj Films has launched the second single of India’s first ‘Isspeshal Band’, the Brooke Bond Red Label 6-Pack Band 2.0 titled, ‘Dil Toh Paagal Hai’.

The song flips that on its head by telling people that if not discriminating between people or listening to your heart is at times considered crazy, then we all need to celebrate that madness. Because the heart, after all, is crazy. The band is an exciting new music collective of six differently abled teens with special needs but incredible music skills and passion. Conceived and produced by Ashish Patil, the project is curated by Shameer Tandon. The new version is a collaboration with ace singer-composer-song writer-rockstar Vishal Dadlani.

The iconic track from Yash Chopra’s cult classic film featuring Shahrukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Akshay Kumar has been recreated by Shameer with additional lyrics by Kumaar. The new music video directed by Adil Shaikh features around 100 students, teachers, counsellors, therapists and staff of The Gateway School of Mumbai, a special needs school celebrating life and accepting each and everyone as they are.

Hindustan Unilever general manager for Brooke Bond Red Label Shiva Krishnamurthy says, “It is wonderful to get Brooke Bond Red Label 6 Pack Band 2.0 into the next gear with an iconic chartbuster song like DTPH. The celebratory spirit of this song resonates with the way Brooke Bond Red Label approaches its purpose of urging people to break barriers, shed their prejudices and make the world a more welcoming place.”

Mindshare India President of client leadership Amin Lakhani adds, “The new song in the journey of 6 Pack is a fabulous take on the iconic Dil Toh Pagal Hai. In its new avatar it delivers a telling story of how society labels people with special needs as abnormal and questions that If living in the moment or living life without inhibitions is Pagalpan then so be it – because that’s the way to live. A brilliant rendition of a song that is a legend, now delivers a call for acceptance and non-judgement and there s no one better than a Vishal Dadlani – an absolute energy powerhouse who could do such an astounding job at this song. I’m sure this song will melt hearts and make people have a relook at their own considerations of special needs people.”

Y-Films head Ashish Patil mentions, “The special needs community has always been all heart. And the heart doesn’t differentiate between caste, colour, gender, ability or disability. That’s one thing we all need to learn to truly make this world a more ‘isspeshal’ place. We are honoured and thrilled beyond bits to present this thumping new version of Yashji’s cult classic to spread this important message.”

According to World Health Organisation’s estimates, 20 per cent of the world requires some form of medical intervention for a mental health issue. But 80 per cent cases go unreported due to the stigma attached. This entire campaign hopes to build greater awareness, understanding and acceptance about mental health and disability and, of course, create some kickass music along the way, that will hopefully drive everyone’s dil paagal!

The making of the 6 Pack Band videos to the Cannes Grand Prix story

MUMBAI: After putting India on the international creative map by winning the Grand Prix at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2016, the 6 Pack Band is all set to release its much awaited sixth and last music video; this time showcasing Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and the leads from YRF’s upcoming blockbuster, Sultan.

In line with the last five videos that featured the likes of Sonu Nigam, Hrithik Roshan and Arjun Kapoor, the band’s latest video also promises a star studded entertainer package that engages its audience in a meaningful conversation about accepting the third gender in our society.

Put together by Y-Films with Ashish Patil at the helm of the project, the first music video ‘Hum Hain Happy’ showcasing the six transgender band members, sent ripples across the social as well as advertising network for its sheer organic reach and the core idea behind the concept.

Several did a double take initially to see FMCG giant Hindustan Unilever’s flagship tea brand, Brooke Bond Red Label as the brand partner —  made possible by its agency Mindshare Fulcrum’s effort. That soon translated into appreciation for the brand when the organic reach numbers rolled out. Winning the coveted Grand Prix for Glass Lions category at Canes Lions 2016 was the cherry on the cake.

Contrary to the current pomp and cheer for the initiative, Patil assured that the journey to make the 6 Pack Band a reality wasn’t quite so rosy.

In fact, Patil had made up his mind to execute the idea on his own if he didn’t get support from any brand. “This is something we have been wanting to do for a while. I never pitch an idea unless I am sure I can execute it. It wasn’t a traditional idea and was fairly outrageous, if I may add.”

What he was sure of was it was impossible to do justice to the idea unless Y- Films had the right brand partner that believed in the cause. The timing aligned with Mindshare’s Content Day for HUL, for which Patil received a brief. Patil noticed the idea had a great fit with Brooke Bond Red Label.

In Patil’s own words, there couldn’t have been a better brand partner than HUL’s flagship tea Brooke Bond Red Label for this project, as it adhered to the idea of ‘making the world a more welcoming place a cup at a time.”

Much to Patil’s trepidation, the first hearing of the idea threw the officials at HUL off, together with the team at Mindshare Fulcrum. ”Without exaggeration, I created 19 presentations for this project which subsequently was passed through Mindshare, GroupM and HUL, and within HUL at several levels — be it the media team, the brand team, regional heads or the category heads,” shared Patil.

Recalling one of the many board meetings Patil attended with HUL following the pitch, he shared the several concerns raised from the brand’s’ side. “I remember someone point out that the brand’s association with the content could mislead or misinform the consumer about the product. Brooke Bond Red Label is sold among families in tier II and tier III cities in India. What if it is mistaken for a chai targeted at the transgender community by the consumers there? It may sound odd now, but those are valid concerns that the brand needed to think over before going through with the campaign.”

“But I must give it to Mindshare for backing us up as much as was necessary, to push the idea through not only it through its own system, but also within HUL,” he added.

Ultimately the power of the idea, and Mindshare’s constant support won the brand over. “Not to mention that we had an incredible aide in the form of Shiva Krishnamurthy, the general manager of marketing for the tea segment at HUL. He was convinced of the idea’s power from the beginning. Once he understood how the content aligned with Brooke Bond’s brand statement, he was a pillar of support through and through.”

Patil made it very clear that the intent behind the concept and the chosen topic was never to be provocative to bait eyeballs. “We pitched it like we would pitch any other band. I could have been launching maybe a boy band for that matter. The fact that it happened to be transgender possibly made it more outrageous, but we didn’t shift the focus from them being band members primarily.”

Should more FMCG brands take a leaf from this and keep an open mind for unconventional content or communication that is beyond its comfort zones? “I certainly hope that 6 Pack band’s success translates into brands funding more on ideas which are not traditional or core to the brand’s’ communication. Consumers need something different from the same vanilla 30 seconds advertising trope that the industry is used to giving,” said Patil.

Instead of chasing after ratings, revenues, and brand recognition, Patil hoped that this encourages brands to stand by causes and content because ‘it is the right thing to do.’ The recognition and numbers would follow, Patil frankly stated, echoing the sentiments behind the famous one-liner from Aamir Khan’s character from The 3 Idiots.

“When brands aren’t trying too hard to campaign themselves and actually let the content speak for itself, it has an immense potential for returns both tangible and intangible,” he added in parting.

Hindustan Unilever and Mindshare Mumbai bag Grand Prix at Cannes Lions 2016

MUMBAI: Mindshare Mumbai has done India proud at the 63rd Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, by winning the Grand Prix in Glass Lions category for its work on Hindustan Unilever’s Brooke Bond Red Label tea. The brand was honoured last Monday for creating India’s first transgender pop band, the 6 Pack Band as part of the campaign initiative.

The 6 Pack Band comprises six transgender singers hailing from India’s ‘Hijra’ community. It’s an initiative created and driven by Y-Films, the youth wing of Yash Raj Films, to help further the cause of gender equality in India with Brooke Bond Red Label as partner.

Describing the win as an ‘epic moment’ Mindshare South Asia CEO Prashant Kumar added he never doubted the campaign’s success given that the core idea was brilliant. “As an organisation we were expecting that the entry will get a recognition. But winning a grand prix was a great delight.”

“This campaign came out of a content day that we did for Unilever which listed great customised ideas for brand solutions. This was one of the shortlisted ideas amongst few other three to four ideas. Then Amin and his team designed on the concept based on the idea, which was further put to discussion with other partners. The result lead to larger things,” Kumar added.

From the brand’s perspective, Team Unilever South Asia, leader Amin Lakhani admitted that the idea was provocative to begin with. “But with each and every roll out of the content piece our confidence in the campaign grew.”

Kumar also pointed out the unprecedented amount of participation and acknowledgement that the campaign garnered post its launch.

Within a short time period of its launch the music videos featuring the 6 Pack Band grabbed millions of eyeballs on Youtube, was aired frequently on television and the radio. Digitally, it was further boosted by online music streaming apps like Hungama, Gaana and Saavn. The band was also invited to perform at the Radio Mirchi Awards and Indian Music Awards.

When asked how the campaign is a relevant brand communication for Red Label, Kumar answered, “The space the brand and the consumer is talking is about a comfortable ecosystem. The music video is a celebration of just that. It also leads into further such space of comfort, and red Label is able to liaison with consumers on the context of comfort. That’s the larger motive behind this campaign.” After all, Red Label’s proposition has always been to stand up for diffusing tension within societies over a cup of tea, Lakhani added.

The biggest success for the brand, Lakhani felt, was the amount of acceptance the six transgender members of the band received and the fact that they are now looked upon as role models — not just within their community but across various cross sections within the society. By using popular culture Red Label as a brand has started a positive conversation on gender equality, and the previous campaign with 6 Pack Band is part of a larger initiative the brand plans to build around the subject.
