    Life OK carries Sci-Fi trend with Nagarjuna

    MUMBAI: At present, Indian television is going through a phase of super natural, mythical and larger than life shows. After the steaming success of many such shows, Beyond Dreams is set to air the all new Mahabharata inspired show Nagarjuna – ek Yodha on Life OK from 30 May at 900 PM.

    The show replaces Piya Rangrez. The makers have high expectation from Nagarjuna – ek Yodha. Will this show work for the channel, fulfil these expectations – only time will reveal.

    Nagarjuna – ek Yodha has been inspired from incidents from the Mahabharata. Explaining the connection, the makers say that there is an incident in the Mahabharata in which a fight between the Pandavas and snakes had happened. The show is a sci-fi fantasy take on this incident. Nagarjuna, played by Anshuman Malhotra, is a reluctant superhero in the show. He is half snake and half man, and the force between human land Amboli and Nag Lok. He is the man who stands between the both the worlds.

    The makers claim that this show has taken production and sets to next level. There is extensive VFX work done by Vertex in the show. Visualizers from Marvel have been involved in the show. The maker of Nagarjuna – ek Yodha, Yash Patnaik says that it took him almost two years to put it together.  Bollywood movie Krrish 3 screen writer Robin Bhatt and Akash Khurana have written Nagarjuna – ek Yodha.

    The makers have created two entire cities at Film City in Mumbai. The sets have been created by Nitin Desai and Anup Adhikari. Sources close to the makers claim that sets are detailed and have cost dear. These sources claim that the first episode alone has cost Rs two crore.

    Woosh Detergent powder is the co-powered by sponsor for the show. Industry source say that a 10 second time slot for a 9PM show on Life OK, could be in the bracket of Rs 30,000 to Rs 45,000.   

    The cast for Nagarjuna – ek Yodha  include Pooja Banerji, Niketan Dheer, Nawab Shah, Shruti Ulfat, Sunil Sinha and Kirti Nagpure to name a few.

    MUMBAI: Empire, the show that made its viewers go through a maelstrom of emotions is now approaching its end with its Season 2 finale this Sunday, May 22nd at 10 PM on FX. The show stars Academy Award nominated actor Terrence Howard as protagonist Lucious Lyon, as he weathers a life of drug dealer to rise through the ranks to become a hip-hop mogul, only to see his life crash and burn as he is diagnosed with ALS.

    Empire Season 2 depicts the rat race to the summit that Lucious’ family comprising of his three sons – Jamal, Andre and Hakeem, his wife Cookie and himself, undergo as heseeks to pass the mantle to one of his sons. The second season starts with the #FreeLuscious concert organized by his ex-wife to end Lucious’s incarceration. The season picks up pace as the entire family is embroiled in controversies and machinations as their quest to be the top dog, heats up. Cookie Lyon, Luscious’s ex-wife, despite their murky past, stands firm with her flawed husband and his tribulations. The depiction of Cookie has won Taraji Penda Henson quite a few laurels with the audience and pundits alike. She also won the Golden Globe award for her performance. This season also showcases the identity of Luscious and lets us know the enigmatic ex-drug dealer a much better.

    As Empire Season 2 comes to fruition, Rhonda seeks to confront Annika, believing her to the one who pushed her down the stairs. Rhonda also comes to blows with Annika, with the latter pleading innocence. We still in remain in the dark regarding the culprit. We also witness the moment that had the viewer’s gasp in disbelief as Jamal gets shot. The Lyon family has a lot on their plate with Jamal getting shot and a wedding on the cards. The finale episode shall seek to answer the various questions in the minds of the viewers.

    Marinating Films introduces Web Travel show ‘Desi Explorers’

    MUMBAI: Wanderlust for the unknown lies within most of us. The curiosity to explore other lands far from our own is common to most. Understanding this, Marinating films has introduced an entirely new concept of a web travel show- Desi Explorers.

    This is a Hindi travel show and the makers say that it will focus on how a country can have different facets for different characters.  The show is about five celebrities – Vishal Singh, Suyyash Rai, Kishwer S Merchant, Sukirti Kandpal, Vrushika Mehta exploring Jordan in their own way. It is a six- episodic web series, to be released in the next two weeks on Marinating films YouTube channel.

    The first season of Desi Explorers will be shot in four different places in Jordan. It will start with the Dead Sea in Jordan, followed by Wadi Rum. Petra, which is also known as the new seventh wonder of the world, will be the third destination and the final spot is the capital city Amman.

    Marinating films has partnered with Jordan Tourism Board and Air Arabia for the show. The partners have bartered services with the production house. Marinating films managing director Sunny Arora said, “Desi Explorers is a creative venture for us rather than a financial one. We are focused on creating experiences for our viewers as this is a pioneer show in this genre on the digital platform”.

    Desi Explorers is being financed by the production house itself. Sources revealed that besides talent, the major production cost is travel and accommodation which could vary between Rs 2.5 Lakh to Rs 3 Lakh per person.  

    The show will be followed by Aaj Tak and ABP News which will be covering the making of the show. The coverage will begin from May 26. The production house has clarified that coverage is a creative call from the channels and it has no business connections with the channels for Desi Explorers.

    There is a crew of 13 people that will be involved in the production of the show. It will be shot in the guerrilla filmmaking style with a Canon 5D Mark III and GoPro cameras to give it a natural look. Desi Explorers is being directed by Manav Binder, who has directed several short films before.

    The makers say that this is a series show, and they will come up with different editions for different countries. After Jordan, Taiwan is next on Marinating films agenda. The makers emphasize that the series will be followed by a travelogue at the end of every season of the show in which the celebrities will share their personal experiences and the making of the show in detail. The travelogue will be released online on various platforms.  .

    Desi Explorers will be promoted on all the digital platforms, including Marinating films in-house platforms. Besides, it will also be promoted through involved celebrity’s social media platforms. The involvement of Aaj Tak and ABP News is expected to bring mileage as well.

    The makers of the show claim that this is one of a kind show due to many factors and will leave a mark amongst audiences. “The show is shot in Hindi with known celebrities to garner the audiences from the region. Desi Explorers is about the spirit to travel and also we are exploring our creativity as well,” concluded Arora.

    MUMBAI: Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (Zeel) Hindi GEC &TV will start airing a new daily soap Waaris starting 16 May at the 700pm and will run Monday to Friday. With this, &TV has opened up its 700pm slot as primetime as against its previous primetime slot of 730pm. Waaris replaces the rerun of Begusarai. The show is presented by Patanjali Kesh Kanti and powered by Lemce Socks. Waaris is produced by Ashvini Yardi’s Vini Yard Films.

    Talking about the show, &TV business head Rajesh Iyer said, “With Waaris, we are now opening up a new time slot and further increasing our original programming hours. The concept of Waaris reflects certain social stigmas that are yet plaguing our society and we believe that a differentiated concept like this will certainly be able to find the share of heart amongst the audiences.”

    Vini Yard Films’ Yardi said, “Waaris deals with the cultural issue of the girl child in our country. The story deals with a strong mother who guards a fierce secret to protect her child and the well-being of the community they belong to. Set in the heartland of Punjab, Waaris touches your heart immediately through its rich story- telling and its stark characters.”

    Waaris is the story of a child Manpreet, who thoughtlessly obeys everything that his mother says without any questions asked. But his mother Amba had lied…Maa ne jhooth bola tha… and this lie is what sets the momentum of the show. While Manpreet is a girl in reality, her identity has been kept under the wraps and she is known as Amba’s son to the entire village. So starts the journey of Manpreet and the age old feud between the two warring landowners – the Pawanias and the Bajwas in proving their supremacy.     MUMBAI: Love is always thickened with various elements and fights or clashes are an innate part of it. After 8 successful seasons, MTV is back with one of the most popular reality show Splitsvilla. Television viewers can witness all the drama, clashes and fights from 12 June 2016 every Sunday at 7 pm. The show will hit TV screens right after the completion of Roadies X4.

    Produced by Colosceum Media, the channel has retained Sunny Leone and Rannvijay Singh as the hosts for the show. For the 15 episodic Splitsvilla, MTV has roped in four sponsors for this season and is likely to lock a deal with Karbonn.

    A source close to the development said that the per episode production cost of Splitsvilla  is approximately Rs 23 to Rs 25 lakh. Revealing further, the source said, “The hosts are all spiced up like never before. Viewers will be able to see many known TV personalities as contestants in the show”. With fights, jealousy, hatred, friendship, backstabbing and love, the show will see 16 wild contestants getting together.

    A 10 second slot rates for the show should be in the region of Rs 10,000 for originals and Rs 5,000 for repeats, opines a media planner.

    Splitsvilla is being shot in Pondicherry with many twists and clashes. In this season as well, show followers will be able to see the male and female ratio continuously changing during the entire course of the show.
