    BARC week 38: Star Plus sees significant ratings rise, back to no.1

    MUMBAI: Star Plus and Colors have been slugging it out in the ratings race for the last couple of weeks. In the Hindi general entertainment channels (GEC) genre, Star Plus has regained its number one position with a considerable rise in ratings, according to the data released by Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India in week 38. 

     

    Star Plus ruled the roost by securing leadership position with 408816 (000 Sums) against 381365 (000 Sums) in week 38. On the other hand, Colors’ ratings nosedived as compared to last week, as the channel held second position with 379921 (000 Sums) against 414841 (000 Sums).

     

    Zee TV grabbed the third slot in the genre with 272281 (000 Sums) followed by Life OK and Sab in fourth and fifth slot with 236606 (000 Sums) and 190465 (000 Sums) respectively. 

     

    Star Plus’ prime time show Saath Nibhaana Saathiya led the chart of top five programmes in Hindi GECs with 7782 (000 Sums) followed by Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya in second spot and Colors’ Sasural Simar Ka in the third slot with 6130 (000 Sums) and 6043 (000 Sums) respectively. Star Plus’ Diya Aur Bati Hum and Colors’ Udaan secured the fourth and fifth slot with 5685 (000 Sums) and 5636 (000 Sums) respectively. 

     

    Like last week, this week too the WWE series has worked for Ten Sports as the channel secured the leadership position in the sports genre with 58963 (000 Sums) followed by Sony Six at second spot and Star Sports 1 in the third slot with 13747 (000 Sums) and 5788 (000 Sums) respectively. 

     

    In the kids’ segment, Nick (v) grabbed the topped the genre with 50817 (000 Sums) followed by Pogo TV (v) in second position with 42922 (000 Sums) and Hungama (v) in third slot with 33386 (000 Sums).

     

    Times Now led the chart in the English news channel genre and recorded 334 (000 Sums) and followed by India Today Television in the second spot with 129 (000 Sums). CNN IBN held the third spot with 129 (000 Sums).

     

    In the Bhojpuri genre, Big Magic Ganga continued to grab leadership position with 5450 (000 Sums). ETV Bihar Jharkhand and Dangal TV garnered second and third berth with 1658 (000 Sums) and 1535 (000 Sums) respectively.

    MUMBAI: In a neck-to-neck tussle for the top slot amongst Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs), Star Plus has pipped Colors by just one GRP to reclaim its leadership position in week 39 of TAM Media Research data.

     

    While Star Plus reclaimed its top position with an increase in ratings in week 39, Colors witnessed saw a downslide even as it secured the second position.

     

    Star Plus pocketed 235 GRPs as against 222 GRPs in week 38, whereas Colors was a close second with 234 GRPs as against 237 GRPs in previous week.

     

    Zee TV was in the third spot followed by Life OK in the fourth slot with 157 GRPs and 134 GRPs respectively.

     

    In fifth slot, Sab recorded 132 GRPs. Sony Entertainment and &TV held the sixth and seventh place with 92 GRPs and 58 GRPs respectively.    

     

    Colors’ prime time show Swaragini led the chart of top five programmes of Hindi GECs and recorded 4.07 TVR followed by Star Plus’ Saath Nibhana Saathiya in the second slot with 3.83 TVR and Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya in the third position with  3.56 TVR. Yet another Colors’ show Udaan held the fourth berth with 3.51 TVR, whereas Star Plus’ Diya Aur Baati Hum with 3.49 TVR was in the fifth position.

    MUMBAI: In a bid offer international clients an in-depth analysis of the Indian television market, BARC India has joined hands with Médiamétrie’s subsidiary company Eurodata TV Worldwide to offer viewership data.

     

    From October, 2015, Eurodata TV Worldwide will integrate the television audiences of BARC India into its services. Eurodata TV covers more than 100 countries and 6,300 channels across five continents.

     

    With this partnership, Eurodata TV will provide daily data for its customers on programming, content and programme audiences in India by target group – producers, distributors, broadcasters, rights managers, sponsors, etc.

     

    The deal will also enrich Eurodata TV’s international programme monitoring service NoTa (News On The Air). 

     

    “Thanks to this agreement, Médiamétrie will offer its international customers a more in-depth analysis of the Indian television market, which is one of the leading markets in the world BARC will be able to benefit from our international sales force and offer the Indian market visibility in five continents,” said Eurodata TV Worldwide executive director Laurent Battais.

     

    BARC India CEO Partho Dasgupta added, “There is a lot of demand for Indian audience data globally and this tie-up will satisfy that demand. We are very happy to partner with Eurodata TV as our reseller for the rest of world, which will help us grow in reach and popularity. I am certain that with the immense experience of Eurodata TV the relationship will be mutually beneficial.”

     

    With a population of 1.2 billion comprising 153.5 million television households as on March 2015, India represents a strategic territory for international audiovisual market stakeholders.

    MUMBAI: Turner Broadcasting has inked an agreement with Rentrak around its Advanced Demographics that will power data for select advertisers around Turner’s suite of advanced advertising products.

    As was earlier reported by Indiantelevision.com, Rentrak has entered into a merger agreement with comScore, which measures online viewing patterns.

    This agreement, an expansion to an ongoing relationship between the two companies, includes Turner Targeting NOW and Audience NOW, advanced advertising products designed to optimise audience delivery to an advertiser’s specific marketing targets, moving away from traditional age and gender-based guarantees.

    “We are motivated to continue our investment in advanced measurement solutions for our advertising partners. As we power those relationships with data agnostic product offerings, this agreement with Rentrak complements those efforts and is our first non-age and gender guaranteed media campaign,” said Turner Ad Sales SVP – client and consumer insights Dan Aversano.

    BARC week 37: ET Now dethrones CNBC to top biz news genre

    MUMBAI: Times Network’s ET Now has managed to topple market leader CNBC TV18 to emerge as the leader in the English business news channel category in week 37 of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India ratings.

     

    ET Now holds the leadership position with 230 (000Sums), whereas CNBC TV18 slid to the second position with 182 (000 Sums). NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime jointly secured the third place with 69 (000Sums).

     

    HINDI GECs

    On the other hand, Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) Colors has managed to maintain its leadership position and has ranked no. 1 yet again. Colors led the chart with a considerable rise in ratings and grabbed first place in Hindi GECs with 414841 (000Sums) in week 37 as against 386518 (000Sums) in week 36.

     

    Though Star Plus witnessed a rise in ratings, it stood behind Colors in second spot with 381365 (000Sums) as compared to 370135 (000Sums) in the previous week.

     

    Zee TV and Life Ok were perched at the third and fourth slot with 256811 (000Sums) and 221762 (000Sums) respectively. Sab secured the fifth berth in the list with 183879 (000Sums).

     

    TOP HINDI GEC SHOWS

    Colors’ prime time show Sasural Simar Ka came out on top with 6819(000) in top five programmes in Hindi GECs followed by Star Plus’ Saath Nibhana Saathiya in the second slot with 6644 (000Sums). Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagyagrabbed the third position with 6185 (000Sums), whereas Colors’ Udaan with 5680 (000Sums) was in the fourth spot.Star Plus’ Ye Hai Mohabbatein stood in the fifth spot with 5602 (000Sums.)

     

    SPORTS

    In the sports genre, the WWE series has worked in favour of Ten Sports as the channel secured leadership position with 40377(000Sums) followed by Sony Six at the second spot and Star Sports 1 in third slot with 15996 (000Sums) and 7782 (000Sums) respectively.

     

    KIDS

    In the kids section, Nick (v) led the genre to grab pole position with 47148 (000Sums) followed by Pogo TV (v) at the second spot with 44222 (000Sums) and Hungama (v) in third with 33086 (000Sums).

     

    ENGLISH NEWS

    Amongst the English News channels, though Times Now saw a fall in ratings, it maintained its top slot with 402 (000Sums) against 511 (000Sums) in week 37 followed by NDTV 24×7 at the second slot with 233 (000Sums). On the other hand, India Today Television with 202 (000 Sums) held the third position.

     

    BHOJPURI

    In the Bhojpuri segment, Big Magic Ganga continued to lead the list with 6347 (000Sums) followed by ETV Bihar Jharkhand in the second slot with 1909 (000Sums) and Dangal TV on the third spot with 1354 (000Sums).

     

    Note: (v) stands for virtual as these are multi-lingual channels.

    MUMBAI: Colors has been slowly but steadily strengthening its position on the ratings chart. In week 38 of TAM Media Research data, Colors has managed to eclipse reigning Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) Star Plus to capture the number 1 slot on an individual level.

     

    Leading the Hindi GEC pack, Colors garnered 237 GRPs against the 232 GRPs in week 37. On the other hand, Star Plus witnessed a downfall and grabbed the second position with 222 GRPs in week 38 as against 230 GRPs in the previous week.

     

    Zee TV at number three saw a fall in its ratings. The channel had registered 156 GRPs in week 37, which went down to 152 GRPs in week 38.

     

    In the fourth spot stood Sab, which recorded 124 GRPs, followed by Life OK with 123 GRPs in the fifth position. Sony Entertainment Television further declined in ratings and was seen at the sixth position with 87 GRPs.

     

    &TV came in seventh with 57 GRPs in week 38 as against 59 GRPs in week 37.

     

    Star Plus’ prime time show Yeh Hai Mohabbatein led the chart in top five programs on Hindi GECs with 4.05 TVR. On the other hand, Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya, which was perched on the top slot for the last two weeks, was down to number two with 3.6 TVR. This was followed by Colors’ Swaragini in the third position with 3.63 TVR, Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi in the fourth place with 3.44 TVR and Sasural Simar Ka in the fifth slot with 3.41 TVR.

    Nielsen to conduct India’s TV universe estimation study for BARC India

    MUMBAI: The Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India has assigned Nielsen to conduct India’s largest universe estimation study on television ownership and viewing habits.

     

    The study will provide the marketing industry with an in-depth understanding on count and composition of television households in the country, with updated numbers over time as industry currency, addressing questions such as number of televisions per household, viewers and viewing habits.

     

    As part of the study, Nielsen will cover three lakh households sample size, and the first round of findings will be released by BARC in early 2016. This by far is the largest study of its kind. The technology used ensures a quick turnaround hence the data will not get dated when released.

     

    With a focus on providing a robust and expanding panel to measure television ratings in the country, the study will also gather data on television owning households in small towns and rural India. As an additional layer to measuring television audiences, the study will capture the paradigm shift in content viewing between linear mediums like the television set, and also digital mediums such as smartphones, tablets, PCs etc. 

     

    Nielsen was chosen after a rigorous pitch process, and was awarded the contract based on their superior understanding of the environment and challenges; and the use of novel technology and processes.

     

    The study will be conducted using innovative technology, and with a digital focus. Tools and methods like Computer Aided Personal Interviews, GPS technology and Phone number validation via OTPs will be deployed to ensure greater efficiency in the interview process, increased accuracy and transparency through the end to end process.

     

    BARC India CEO Partho Dasgupta said, “As we introduce a new system of television ratings in the country, we are also cognisant of the need to understand the changing  television audience across the country. This pioneering study will help address many questions faced by the industry today, and be a ready reckoner for marketers and advertisers, besides helping the panel expansion for television measurement as well. The methodology that has been selected will reduce the time taken for the study, and allow for a quicker turnaround compared to traditional methods.”

    Chrome Week 37: English Entertainment genre leads with 9.3% growth

    MUMBAI: English Entertainment genre led the pack in the six metros with growth of 9.3 per cent with Comedy Central at the top of the chart with 49.4 per cent opportunity to see (OTS) in week 37 of OTS data collated by Chrome Data, Analytics and Media.
     
    Second on the list is the English Movies genre in six metros, which witnessed three per cent growth. Movies Now bagged the pole position in the section with 60.3 per cent OTS.

     

    Infotainment genre secured third berth across India with 0.8 per cent OTS with History TV18 leading in the genre with 81.6 per cent OTS.

     

    In Hindi Speaking Market (HSM), Hindi Movies genre grabbed fourth position with 0.6 per cent, with Zee Cinema topping the list with 92.7 per cent OTS.

     
    Amongst the losers this week were Business news, sports and music channels.

     

    Business News section in six metros witnessed a drop by 0.4 per cent with CNBC Awaaz securing the first position with 79.5 per cent OTS.

     

    Sports genre across India dropped by 0.3 per cent and saw DD Sports securing the top slot with 74 per cent OTS.

     

    Music genre in HSM dropped by 0.2 per cent. 9XM with 88.1 per cent emerged as the most affected channel in the genre.

    MUMBAI: While Star Plus held on to its lead position in Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) category in week 37 for HSM(including LC1) according to TAM Media Research data, in terms of GRPs, it was Colors that saw a maximum gain.

     

    Colors gained 21 GRPs in week 37, whereas Star Plus added 13 GRPs over last week.

     

    Maintaining its top position, Star Plus garnered 223 GRPs in week 37 as against 210 GRPs in week 36 followed by Colors in the second slot with 219 GRPs in comparison to 198 GRPs in last week.

     

    Zee TV saw a marginal downfall in ratings but secured its third position with 159 GRPs followed by Sab in the fourth slot with 118 GRPs. On the other hand, with 111 GRPs Life OK stayed at number fifth position.

     

    Sony Entertainment Television, in sixth slot totted 100 GRPs, whereas &TV grabbed seventh berth with 53 GRPs.

     

    Overall, the Hindi GEC genre saw a gain of 30 GRPs in week 37.
