    BARC week 28: Ratings increase for English News, Hindi News and Business News players

    MUMBAI: While on the one hand players in the English news genre observed a substantial increase in ratings, channels in the English business news space witnessed a decline except for Bloomberg TV. Meanwhile, both the Hindi news and business news genres saw a growth in their viewership numbers.

    According to week 28 of BARC’s ratings report, the genre leaders continued to dominate their respective space.

    English News

    Times Now with an increase in ratings remained as the undisputable leader  with 262 Impressions (000s) as compared to 215 Impressions (000s) in week 27. NDTV 24×7 secured the second position with 130 Impressions (000s) followed by India Today Television at the third spot with 109 Impressions (000s).

    CNN News18 with 84 Impressions (000s) held the fourth position, followed by News X on the last rank with 64 Impressions (000s).

    English Business News

    CNBC TV 18 remained on the first spot with 72 Impressions (000s), followed by ET Now at No 2 with 48 Impressions (000s).  NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime bagged third position with 15 Impressions (000s). Bloomberg TV with 11 Impressions (000s) held onto the fourth position.

    Hindi News

    Aaj Tak maintained its number one position with 73334 Impressions (000s). India TV bagged the second rank with 65756 impressions (000s), followed by India News on third position with 52552 Impressions (000s).

    ABP News grabbed the fourth spot with 46940 Impressions (000s) while News Nation with 46539 Impressions (000s) took the fifth berth.

    Hindi Business News

    CNBC Awaaz observed an increase in ratings, ranking number one with 733 Impressions (000s) this week to 695 impressions (000s) in week 27. Zee Business also saw a rise in rating of 522 impressions (000s) in comparison to 441 impressions (000s) in week 27.

    MUMBAI: Star Plus continued to lead the Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) genre in Urban+ Rural Hindi speaking market while Zee TV replaced Colors on the second spot in week 28, as per Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India. Zee Anmol continued to dominate the  rural HSM and Star Plus led the Hindi GEC in Urban market again. 

    Urban + Rural HSM

    Star Plus maintained its leadership position with a rise in ratings and recorded 720065 Impressions (000s) against 677948 Impressions (000s) in week 27 while Zee TV toppled  Colors to claim the second position with 597092 Impressions (000s) followed by the third ranked Colors  with 584267 Impressions (000s). 

    Zee network’s free to air channel Anmol grabbed the fourth position with 465506 Impressions (000s) and Star Utsav at five slot with 436719 Impressions (000s).

    Life OK stood at sixth with 410265 Impressions (000s) followed by Sony Pal at number seven with 407413 Impressions (000s) and Sony Entertainment Television replaced Sab TV at number  eight with 381519 Impressions (000s). The ninth ranked Sab TV  had 345082 Impressions (000s) and Rishtey maintained its tenth spot with 284467 Impressions (000s).

    Rural HSM

    Zee Anmol witnessed a dip in ratings but continued to top the list with 358649 Impressions (000s) against 369297 Impressions (000’s) followed by Star Utsav  with 333048 Impressions (000s) and Sony Pal on the third position  with 301028 Impressions (000s). Zee TV maintained its fourth rank with 263056 Impressions (000s).

    Star Plus claimed the fifth spot with 238011 Impressions (000s)  while Rishtey grabbed the sixth rank with 202464 Impressions (000s) followed by Colors at number seven with 174902 Impressions (000s) and Life Ok which stood at eight with 141456 Impressions (000s).

    Big Magic grabbed the ninth spot with 106029 while Sony Entertainment Television stood tenth with 103676 Impressions (000s).

    Urban HSM

    Star Plus occupied the first position with a rise in ratings and recorded 482054 Impressions (000s) against  459294 Impressions (000s) in week 27  followed by Colors on second position with 409365 Impressions (000s) and  Zee TV with 334037 Impressions (000s) stood at number three.  

    Sony Entertainment Television replaced Sab TV at fourth spot with 277843 Impressions (000s) followed by Life Ok at fifth with 268809 Impressions (000s). 

    Sab TV fell to sixth spot and recorded 257074 Impressions (000s). 

    In Urban HSM,  &TV maintained its number seven position with 116628 Impressions (000s) followed by Zee Anmol with 106857 Impressions (000s) on eighth and Sony Pal bagged ninth spot with 106386 Impressions (000s).  Star Utsav  bagged the tenth spot with 103672 Impressions (000s).

    Leaders in the infotainment space continue at the same position. The lifestyle genre saw a decline in ratings with NDTV Good Times entering the list.

    English Entertainment

    Zee Cafe stands at the number one position with 214 (‘000s) followed by Star World with 141 (‘000s) in the second place. The third position is secured by AXN HD with 112 (‘000s) while Comedy Central holds the fourth position with 109 (‘000s). AXN takes the fifth spot with 102 (‘000s).

    Movies Now continues to stay in the first place with 3444 (‘000s). Star Movies with 2602 (‘000s) and Sony Pix with 1907 (‘000s) grabbed the second and the third positions respectively. HBO secured the fourth position with 1291 (‘000s) followed be Zee Studio with 1154 (‘000s) in the fifth place.

    Infotainment

    Discovery continues to lead the space with 4488 impressions (000s), followed by National Geographic Channel on second position with 3195 impressions (000s). Animal Planet with 2732 impressions (000s) is on third position. History TV18 with 2335 impressions (000s) and Nat Geo Wild with 2017 impressions (000s) are on fourth and fifth spot respectively.

    Lifestyle

    Living Foodz with 1749 Impressions (000s) and Fox Life with 740 Impressions (000s) took the first and the second spot respectively. TLC is on third position with 634 impressions (000s). Food Food grabbed fourth position with 517 impressions (000s) and NDTV Good Times took the fifth berth with 245 impressions (000s).

    MUMBAI: The English movies genre emerged as the top gainer in Chrome’s opportunity to see (OTS) analysis for six metros. The space marked an increase of 1.2 per cent. Movies Now emerged as the most benefited channel with 47.4 percent OTS in week 28.

    Next up, the English news genre which recorded an increase of 0.9 per cent in six metros with Lok Sabha TV leading the genre with 92.2 per cent OTS.

    On the other hand, Music in the Hindi Speaking Market (HSM) booked the third spot in the list of top gainers with a 0.7 per cent increase in OTS. 9XM led the tally with 90.6 per cent OTS.

    Last but not the least, English entertainment in the six metros observed a growth of 0.6 per cent. Star World emerged as the chart topper with 44.7 per cent OTS.

    Meanwhile, witnessing a drop of 0.1 per cent, the Hindi GEC genre in HSM topped the loser category with DD National scoring 97.4 per cent OTS.

    On the other hand, with a drop of 0.1 per cent, the Hindi movies genre in an identical market was in the second spot with Max emerging as the most affectedC channel with 91.8 per cent OTS.

    MUMBAI: The English movies genre emerged as the top gainer in Chrome’s opportunity to see (OTS) analysis for six metros. The space marked an increase of 1.2 per cent. Movies Now emerged as the most benefited channel with 47.4 percent OTS in week 28.

    Next up, the English news genre which recorded an increase of 0.9 per cent in six metros with Lok Sabha TV leading the genre with 92.2 per cent OTS.

    On the other hand, Music in the Hindi Speaking Market (HSM) booked the third spot in the list of top gainers with a 0.7 per cent increase in OTS. 9XM led the tally with 90.6 per cent OTS.

    Last but not the least, English entertainment in the six metros observed a growth of 0.6 per cent. Star World emerged as the chart topper with 44.7 per cent OTS.

    Meanwhile, witnessing a drop of 0.1 per cent, the Hindi GEC genre in HSM topped the loser category with DD National scoring 97.4 per cent OTS.

    On the other hand, with a drop of 0.1 per cent, the Hindi movies genre in an identical market was in the second spot with Max emerging as the most affectedC channel with 91.8 per cent OTS.
