    News: Channels across genres see rise in ratings, CNBC TV18 leads in viewership

    MUMBAI: The players in the English News genre witnessed a substantial increase in the ratings. Times Now remained as the undisputed leader in the English News space. Channels in the English Business News space observed a hike in the viewership led by CNBC TV18.

    According to week 4 of Broadcast Association Research Council (BARC), Aaj Tak, with a decline in its ratings, remained as the number one channel in the Hindi News space both in rural and urban markets. The other channels witnessed an increase in ratings. 

    CNBC Awaaz ranked number one in the Hindi Business News genre.

    English News

    Times Now with an increase in its ratings continued to dominate the genre with 781 Impressions (000s) as to 699 Impressions (000s) last week. India Today Television sustained at the second slot with 341 Impressions (000s) while NDTV 24×7 hoped at the third position with 273 Impressions. CNN News18 with 230 Impressions (000s) and BBC World News with 97 Impressions (000s) took the fourth and fifth position, respectively.

    English Business News

    CNBC TV18 with a hike in the ratings was at the number one position with 275 Impressions (000s) 238 Impressions (000s) followed by ET Now at the second spot with 210 Impressions (000s). NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime was at the third position with 56 Impressions (000s). BTVi was on the fourth spot with 22 Impressions (000s). CNBC TV 18 Prime HD sustained at the fifth place with 4 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi News

    Aaj Tak with decrease in ratings stood at the first spot with 115885 Impressions (000s) as to 115902 Impressions (000s). India TV was at the second position with 104961 Impressions (000s). Zee News took the third position with 94921 Impressions (000s) followed by ABP News at the fourth position with 88746 Impressions (000s). India News took the fifth position with 76860 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi News Rural 

    Aaj Tak dominated the rural market with 52018 Impressions (000s) as compared to 52553 Impressions (000s) last week. India TV with 47728 Impressions (000s) took the second berth. India News grabbed the third position with 45982 Impressions (000s). Zee News took the fourth place with 41127 Impressions (000s) followed by ABP News with 40127 Impressions (000s) at the fifth position.

    Hindi News Urban 

    Aaj Tak stood at the number one position in the urban market with increased ratings from 63350 Impressions (000s) as to 63866 Impressions (000s). India TV at the second position with 57232 Impressions (000s). Zee News took the third position with 53795 Impressions (000s) followed by ABP News at the fourth position with 48620 Impressions (000s). News Nation took the fifth position with 40619 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi Business News

    CNBC Awaaz continued at the number one position with increase ratings from 937 Impressions (000s) last week to 1145 Impressions (000s) this week. The second spot was taken by Zee Business with 918 Impressions (000s).

India News grabbed the third position with 45982 Impressions (000s). Zee News took the fourth place with 41127 Impressions (000s) followed by ABP News with 40127 Impressions (000s) at the fifth position.

    Aaj Tak stood at the number one position in the urban market with increased ratings from 63350 Impressions (000s) as to 63866 Impressions (000s). India TV at the second position with 57232 Impressions (000s). Zee News took the third position with 53795 Impressions (000s) followed by ABP News at the fourth position with 48620 Impressions (000s). News Nation took the fifth position with 40619 Impressions (000s).

    CNBC Awaaz continued at the number one position with increase ratings from 937 Impressions (000s) last week to 1145 Impressions (000s) this week. The second spot was taken by Zee Business with 918 Impressions (000s).

In BARC India week 4,  DD National continued to maintain its position in the top 10 channels across markets. In Hindi GEC rural market, Sab TV exited the list of top ten channels, and Sony Pal in Hindi GEC Urban departed from the list.

    Hindi GEC

    Star Plus bagged the leadership spot with 660084 Impressions (000s) followed by Colors on the second spot with 640585 Impressions (000s) and Rishtey on third spot with 435105 Impressions (000s).

    Zee TV maintained its fourth spot with 434591 Impressions (000s). This week Sony Entertainment stood on number five with 426238 Impressions (000s).

    Star Utsav fell on number five six with 389073 Impressions (000s). DD National grabbed seventh spot with 385299 Impressions (000s) followed by Life OK on eighth with 378428 Impressions (000s).

    Zee Anmol and Sony Pal  grabbed ninth and tenth slot with 357567(000s) and 356375 Impressions (000s) respectively.

    Rishtey continued to top the charts of Hindi GEC rural market  with 322903 Impressions (000s) followed by Star Utsav on second with 282399 Impressions (000s).

    Zee Anmol bagged three spot with 271375 Impressions (000s) and Sony Pal stood on number four with 251910 Impressions (000s).

    From number three, DD National fell on number five this week with 219027 Impressions (000s).

    Colors, Star Plus and Zee TV registered sixth, seventh and eighth spot with 197171 Impressions (000s),  192908 Impressions (000s) and 177016 Impressions (000s), respectively.

    Life OK and Sony Entertainment Television grabbed ninth and tenth spot with 135637 Impressions (000s) and 125840 Impressions (000s).

    In Urban market,  Star Plus continued to be the leader with 467177 Impressions(000s) followed by Colors on second 443414 Impressions (000s) and Sony Entertainment Television with 300398 Impressions (000s) stood on number three.

    Zee TV grabbed fourth spot with 257575 Impressions (000s) and  Sab TV maintained its fifth spot with 249748 Impressions (000s).

    Life OK on sixth with 242791 Impressions (000s) followed by DD National with 166272 Impressions (000s) on seventh slot.

    &TV, Rishtey and Star Utsav l stood on eighth, ninth and tenth  with 141416 Impressions (000s), 112203 Impressions (000s) and 106674 Impressions (000s), respectively.

    According to the week 4 ratings data of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India, players in the infotainment genre saw a hike in their ratings except History TV18.

    Living Foodz continued to dominate the Lifestyle space, with the channels observing mixed ratings this week.

    Star World with an increase in ratings sustained its number one position with 312 Impressions (‘000s) as to 258 Impressions (‘000s) last week followed by Comedy Central at the second place with 265 Impressions (‘000s). AXN stood at the third position with 224 Impressions (‘000s) whereas Zee Cafe took the fourth place with 191 Impressions (‘000s). Colors Infinity SD maintained itself on the fifth rank with 84 Impressions (‘000s).

    Movies Now toppled Star Movies thus dominating the genre with 3181 Impressions (‘000s). Star Movies with 2514 Impressions (‘000s) stood at the number two position. Sony Pix with 1855 Impressions (‘000s) grabbed the third position followed by Zee Studio at the fourth position with 1342 Impressions (‘000s). HBO took the fifth place with 1314 Impressions (‘000s).

    Discovery Channel continued to rule the genre with 4916 Impressions (‘000s) as compared to 4193 Impressions (‘000s) in week 3. History TV 18 was at the second spot with 3915 Impressions (‘000s). National Geographic with 2913 Impressions (‘000s) and Animal Planet with 2854 Impressions (‘000s) took the third and fourth position, respectively. Nat Geo Wild stood at the fifth position with 2828 Impressions (‘000s).

    Living Foodz sustained its number one position with increased ratings from 1770 Impressions (‘000s) in week 3 to 1907 Impressions (‘000s) this week.
