    DD’s five primary channels consistently spend less than allocations

    New Delhi: Doordarshan National spent Rs 132.77 crore out of the budget of Rs 140.38 crore allocated for 2014-15. (Note : 100,00,000 = 10 million = 1 crore. All numbers in this report have been rounded off to the nearest second decimal place). According to Information and Broadcasting Ministry sources, DD National has ben spending less than the allocated amounts since 2012-13 when it was allocated Rs  149.11 crore and spent Rs 142.99 crore; while in 2013-14 when it was allocated Rs 159.75 crore out of which it spent Rs 136.07 crore.

    Of the Rs 12.38 crore allocated to DD Sports in 2012-13, it spent 12.15 crore. In 2013-14, it spent just Rs 9.92 crore of the Rs 13.83 crore allocated, and in 2014-15 DD Sports spent Rs 36.53 crore of the Rs 38.31 crore allocated.

    DD Urdu was allocated Rs 25.02 crore and spent Rs 23.87 crore in 2012-13. It was allocated Rs 29.38 crore and spent Rs 26.02 crore in 2013-14, and was allocated Rs 17.11 crore in 2014-15 of which DD Urdu spent Rs 11.23 crore.

    DD Bharati spent Rs 0.90 crore of the Rs 1.29 crore allocated in 2012-13. It spent Rs 1.22 crore of the Rs 1.45 crore allocated in 2013-14, and spent Rs 0.75 crore out of the allocation of Rs 0.83 crore in 2014-15.

    Of the allocation of Rs 0.93 crore to DD India in 2014-15, it spent Rs 0.46 lakh. In 2013-14, it was allocated Rs 1.53 crore and spent Rs 1.01 crore, while in 2012-13 DD India was allocated Rs 4.35 crore and spent Rs 2.21 crore. 

    Under the head of ‘Payment to Professionals and Special Services’ (PSS), Doordarshan in 2012-13 sanctioned Rs 1.5 crore of which Rs 1.35 crore was spent, the amount sanctioned was Rs. 2 crore in 2013-14 of which Rs 1.84 was spent . The amount sanctioned for PSS was Rs. 2.5 crore in 2014-15 of which Rs 2.46 was spent by Doordarshan.

    NEW DELHI: Denying reports that DD Kisan has failed to achieve its objectives, the Government has said the channel had a reach of 1.68 crores in the week ending 19 February according to the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) data. 

    Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore claimed that the growth of the channel had been satisfactory.

    He said BARC had commenced data relating to rural viewership in October 2015. The channel was launched in July 2015.

    However, he said it was a constant endeavor of Doordarshan to improve upon its programmes by reviewing content and quality from time to time with a view to sustain the interest of the viewers and increase television viewership ratings.

    A channel survey has also been commissioned by DD Kisan Channel to assess the effectiveness of the channel and to get feedback from the farmers on the programmes telecast by the channel.

    NEW DELHI: A sum of Rs 1,519,359,156 including Rs 518,721,901 as interest was owed by 649 companies and producers against advertising to various kendras of Doordarshan until 31 December 2015, Parliament has been informed.

    Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore said a total of 83 cases are pending in courts, arbitration and out of court settlement. In this matter, the principal amount involved is Rs 269.97 crore and the interest is Rs 308.68 crore.

    A total of six cases where the arbitrator gave decisions for amounts totaling Rs 341.352,850 are under challenge in various courts and are pending. In such cases, Interest amounting to Rs 241,132,488 has already been computed as at present.

    Interestingly, there is no amount pending against All India Radio.

    NEW DELHI: In a bid to increase its revenues, Doordarshan is considering auctioning of slots on DD National.

    Sources in the pubcaster told Indiantelevision.com that it was DD’s constant endeavour to improve upon its programmes by reviewing the content and quality from time to time with the view to sustain the interest of the viewers.

    Doordarshan, which procures content through various notified schemes, is now considering re-prioritising its current approach with a new policy on slot sales that may include auction of slots on the national channel, the sources said.

    Doordarshan earned Rs 497.59 crore net including Rs 493.29 crore from commercials till December during 2015-16.

    In the previous year (2014-15), DD earned Rs 995.66 crore from commercial and miscellaneous sources. This included Rs 993.68 crore from commercials.

    The revenue was Rs 1145.44 crore in 2013-14, of which Rs 1140.5 crore was from commercial sources.

    In 2012-13, DD earned revenue of Rs 1138.23 crore, which included Rs 1134.16 from commercial sources.

    DD, AIR News bulletins preserved as archives, PIB releases since independence available for public scrutiny

    NEW DELHI: Doordarshan News bulletins are being preserved as archives in print format since 2010, Parliament was told this week.

    DD News maintains the archives in print/video format, according to Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley.

    All daily News Bulletins are preserved in visual format for six months and stored in local server of DD News.

    Coverage of VVIPs such as the President, Vice President and Prime Minister, including their major domestic and foreign tours, are archived and preserved.

    Recordings of news coverage, which have longer implications and recall value, are also archived and preserved in DD News Tape library.

    The Electronic Media Monitoring Centre (EMMC) keeps the record of the channels monitored for a period of 90 days.

    As far as audio archives of news items, bulletins of All India Radio broadcast from Delhi and different Regional News Units located in various States are preserved in text as well as electronic formats.

    At the headquarters of AIR in Delhi, text copies of major news bulletins of All India Radio broadcast from Delhi are preserved for a period of five years.

    The text and audio format of these bulletins are also available on News Service Division (NSD): AIR website www.newsonair.com for a period of three months.

    Major Hindi and English news bulletins broadcast from Delhi have also been preserved in electronic form on CDs (audio format) from June 2006 to October 2015.

    Regional News Units (RNUs) of All India Radio preserve the text copies of news bulletins as well as audio recordings for one year. RNUs now also upload their bulletins on NSD website.

    As far as print matter is concerned, the Minister said in reply to a question that Information Centre located at Connaught Place, New Delhi, of the Press Information Bureau has preserved hard copies of press releases issued by PIB since independence to 1997 and these are now being digitised.

    The Information Centre houses print records of historical value. Press releases are being issued by PIB in digital form since January 1998.

    In addition, 22 leading newspapers are being kept at the Information Centre, in bound form. The Information Centre is open to the general public.

    DD Bharati to live telecast Khajuraho Dance Festival

    NEW DELHI: DD Bharati will telecast live the Khajuraho Dance Festival later this week.

    The telecast will be from 20 to 26 February from 7 pm to 11 pm, with a repeat telecast on the next day.

    The week-long International Dance Festival will be held against the spectacular backdrop of the magnificently lit Khajuraho temples, which stand a testimony to the glorious past of India’s cultural richness.

    The Khajuraho Dance Festival 2016 will highlight the grandeur of many Indian classical dance styles such as Kathak, Bharathanatyam, Odissi, Kuchipudi, Manipuri and also contemporary dance form with performances by artists of world fame.

    Many renowned dance groups will be participating in the festival. Khajuraho Festival of Dances is celebrated at a time when the hardness of winter begins to fade and the king of all seasons, spring, takes over.
