Ultra and CLD Distribution launches next-generation Esports platform Ultra Arena

Mumbai: Ultra, a complete PC video gaming ecosystem created by AAA games industry talent from companies like Ubisoft, Playstation and Nintendo, and CLD Distribution, owner of Smartoys stores and official distributors for the largest retailers in Europe, today proudly announce the launch of Ultra Arena, a next-generation esports and tournament platform for all gamers.

Created to expand access to competitive gaming for casual gamers and pros alike, Ultra Arena will go live globally on 8 August 2023 following a series of successful closed beta tournaments. Currently, gamers often need to join a multitude of third-party websites and Discord servers to compete in their favourite games. Ultra Arena addresses this by integrating directly within Ultra’s ecosystem of PC gaming apps, bringing together tournament organisation, prizes and rewards in a single intuitive hub.

In addition to major benefits for gamers, Ultra Arena provides a multitude of opportunities for publishers, esports organisations, and gaming brands to connect with their audiences. Apart from supporting tournament sponsorships and custom branding for teams and competitions, brands and organisations have the ability to create and oversee their own exclusive tournaments and events. They can also assemble highly competitive lineups to represent them by directly engaging with emerging esports talents.

Ultra Arena will host tournaments for titles including League of Legends, Overwatch 2, CSGO, and PUBG, as well as games that are already available to play on Ultra Games. Tournament organisers take control of the rules and brackets to cater to various skill levels, as well as reward systems. Prize pools can be made up of Ultra’s $UOS ecosystem token, digital games, and digital collectables. Physical licensed products such as graphics cards and keyboards can also be offered, which players can choose to keep or trade with others on Ultra’s built-in Uniq Marketplace.

Ultra’s co-CEOs – Nicolas Gilot and David Hanson – have a long track record in gaming and esports, even creating their own CSGO org in the early 2000s. Announcing the launch of Ultra Arena, Nicolas Gilot said, “Today, esports beyond the very top professional level quickly becomes a mishmash of tournament platforms, Discord servers, and LFG groups. It’s a major challenge for competitive gamers and excludes casual gamers who’d nevertheless like to compete against similar-ability players in their favourite games. By offering a convenient and user-friendly hub within the wider Ultra ecosystem, we’re making it easier for players of all skill levels to access tournaments whilst providing unparalleled opportunities for esports and gaming brands to engage their fans and communities”.

CLD Group CEO Raphael Pluta said, “After 24 years of passionate work within the gaming industry, I’m so proud of this partnership that will enable gamers to grow, compete and have fun in a safe and exciting environment. Our ambition is to connect physical products with this futuristic esports platform to offer the very best phygital experience. I strongly believe that Ultra Arena is an opportunity for retailers and e-tailers around the world to create communities, build marketing activations and grow their fan bases in innovative and authentic ways. Now more than ever, the gaming industry will show its power!”

The launch of Ultra Arena follows the successful public launch of Ultra Games, Ultra’s next-generation PC games store, in April 2023. • Unveiling India’s FIFA Esports sensations: Aiming to transition from the pitch to podium at Asian Games 2022

Unveiling India’s FIFA Esports sensations: Aiming to transition from the pitch to podium at Asian Games 2022

Mumbai: Being home to a large population with a boundless passion for football, India boasts an equally massive player base for the virtual gaming title of the sport, spread all over the country. Fuelled by the support of this energetic community, the nation will aim to transition from the virtual pitch to the podium as its skilled athletes participate in Esports’ debut as an official medal sport at the 19th Asian Games.

Bearing the flag of the country against Asia’s best will be Charanjot Singh and Karman Tikka who secured their berth for the tournament by reaching the finals of the National Esports Championships (NESC) organized by Esports Federation of India (ESFI) where Charanjot prevailed by 4-1 and 6-5 in two games.

The two athletes will first be traveling to Seoul, South Korea for the seeding event set to take place from August 2 to August 6.

Here are the supremely talented athletes who are on the cusp of scripting history as they prepare to represent their nation in Hangzhou:

    Charanjot Singh

The 20-year-old college student from Chandigarh describes himself as first, a football fanatic. “When I’m not playing FIFA on my console, I’m watching it on TV or I’m out on a field playing football,” he says, laughing. He’s now one of two FIFA 22 players selected for the 16-player Esports contingent that will represent India at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

Ranked as the no.1 FIFA 22 athlete in India, Charanjot has emerged as the winner of the ESL India Premiership twice, the ILG Cup Season 3, and triumphed in the AIFF eFootball Challenge twice, consistently proving his mettle within the Indian Gaming Circuit. He finished as the runner-up in the eISL last year and has also triumphed in the Esportz Premiership India and Nostra Gaming competitions on two occasions.

Moving beyond India, Charanjot has displayed his skills internationally by winning the FGS Singapore Open, FGS South Asia Play-ins, FIFA eNations Asia Playoffs, and FAS eSports Championship. Moreover, he has proudly represented India in various locations such as Denmark, London (three times), Qatar, and Malaysia. His consistent success has led to India being ranked 6th in the world of FIFA esports.

It is interesting to note that Charanjot didn’t own a console until a few years ago and started playing on a friend’s desktop. It was after his first win, at the EA Road to Russia event in 2018, that his parents bought him his own. After seeing their son’s achievements till now, they now see Esports as a viable career option.

“It’s come to a point where my mother, who doesn’t watch any of my games, has taken an interest in how I am performing. She asks for regular updates and advises me to focus on honing my skill and this is motivating enough to make me want to bring a medal home,” Singh says.

Singh’s mother who works in the government is proud of her son and his achievements in Esports so far. “I’m happy that he is pursuing what he loves because that’s what matters the most. But I also make sure that his studies are not impacted, and he himself also does a good job managing both things himself,” she expressed.

At the Asian Games, Charanjot will not just be carrying the hopes of his parents but the entire nation on his shoulders as he strives to bring a medal back to India.

Even though representing his country at the Asian Games in Hangzhou is 10 times more pressure than usual, Karman expects himself to come home from the tournament with a medal.

His self-belief and prominence in the game have helped him clinch 2nd place in the inaugural Hero eISL and emerge as a champion in the 2nd TEC Community Cup last year.  Karman’s skills have also helped him secure the 1st place winner in the AIFF eFootball Challenge Qualifier as well as achieve a top-four finish in the ESL India Premiership Cup-8.

Currently ranked 2064 in the Elite Division of the game, Karman’s love for football extends beyond gaming. Having started watching football in 2009, he witnessed Chelsea’s victory in the Premier League and immediately became their life-long supporter.

  • India’s Street Fighter V Athletes gear up for Asian Games 2022

India’s Street Fighter V Athletes gear up for Asian Games 2022

Mumbai: Amidst the traditional Esports titles that have been the founding pillars of the video-gaming industry is Street Fighter which was earlier played in arcades but has since made its way to consoles and PCs. Similar to the development of the game is the journey of Mayank Prajapati and Ayan Biswas, two athletes that will be representing India in Street Fighter V: Champion Edition at the upcoming Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou.

From arcades to one of the biggest multi-sports events in the world, both of the athletes have faced a substantial amount of challenges but showcased tremendous determination and skill to overcome them. Triumphing in the National Esports Championships (NESC) organised by the Esports Federation of India (ESFI) by utilising their high-quality skillset, strategies, and dedication, the athletes are now ready to make their country proud against the title’s best athletes from Asia.

Introducing the duo that will compete against 14 other nations to clinch what will be the biggest medal in Indian Esports history:

    Mayank Prajapati

From the moment Mayank Prajapati first heard that Street Fighter V had been included in the 2022 Asian Games, he knew it was his time to shine. The 32-year-old interior designer from Delhi carefully scheduled his day so that he could look after his 2-year-old son, work on his design projects, and spend at least four to five hours a night practising his moves in the multiplayer online game.

The hours of dedication helped him win a spot on the India squad. “My wife accompanies me to my games and is my biggest supporter,” said Prajapati, who started playing the game in 2009, after he purchased it accidentally and then fell in love with it. “Whenever my relatives ask what I do for a living, my mother proudly forwards them videos from my wins at Dreamhack Delhi 2019. He also won Best of the Best tournament for Nodwin in 2015, and also secured the Top 16 position in Intel Qualifiers for South East Asian Countries,” he added.

Prajapati is prepping for China by studying the moves of players he expects to encounter at the tournaments. “We don’t get to play against too many international players but I get my friends to challenge me with unexpected moves and strategies,” he says.

First in Dreamhack Dec 2019 (Delhi)
Second in Dew Arena May 2019 (Delhi)

    Ayan Biswas

Coming from the quaint town of Birnagar, Ayan Biswas has battled the odds, and stereotypes and become a force to be reckoned with in Street Fighter V. From a young age, Ayan found solace in video games but he had to work his way up as he embarked on his journey in his beloved title.

“Being unaware of the game’s mechanics when I started, I was losing almost all of my games online. So, I began watching skilled players and studying how they played the game. After that, I experimented with different tactics to create my own ideas and focused on improving my skills. I have to admit, it was tough to learn, and I even played the game for more than 5 hours a day at times,” says Ayan.

His dedication and countless hours in training allowed him to cater to his passion for Esports, enabling him to master the title of Street Fighter V.  In the realm of Indian Esports, he claimed the top spot in both the Dew Arena and Dreamhack Mumbai in 2018 followed by victory in the India Esports tournament in 2020. Going beyond the borders, Ayan he earned a well-deserved top-16 finish at the Intel World Open SEA Region tournament 2021, demonstrating his talent on the international stage.

Currently in the Super Diamond rank in-game, Ayan’s favorite character in the game is Birdie followed by Bison and Akuma. His focus and desire to excel are the driving forces behind his aspirations at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. “I may be one player among many, but I carry the hopes and dreams of my country and every aspiring gamer who dares to dream and I want to do justice to that,” he says.
