    Mumbai: Sony Sports Network takes its impactful ‘Iss Baar Drugs Ki Haar’ campaign to new heights by joining forces with marquee players from the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB). England Women’s captain Heather Knight, England Men’s wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler, and fast bowler Mark Wood lend their voices to this initiative, aimed at empowering India’s youth to reject drugs.

    This campaign’s second phase builds on the success of its debut, zeroing in on preventing first-time drug use among young Indians.     AIU & Manav Rachna to host 2024 FISU World University Championship Shooting

    Mumbai: Over 250 university shooting athletes from more than 25 countries, along with a 33-member Indian team, will compete in the FISU World University Championship Shooting, taking place in New Delhi from 9 to 13 November. This is the first time the championship has been held in India, with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) overseeing the event and Manav Rachna International Institute of Research & Studies (MRIIRS) as the host. The competition will occur at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range, with an opening ceremony on 8 November at the Manav Rachna campus. Athletes will compete in various shooting disciplines, including rifle, pistol, and shotgun events.

    AIU president Prof Vinay Kumar Pathak stated, “On behalf of the Association of Indian Universities, I warmly welcome all international university athletes and officials to New Delhi for the FISU World University Championship Shooting 2024.     Mumbai: Sony Sports Network  announced its latest initiative, Cricket Petta, a Tamil podcast dedicated to cricket fans, a first by a sports broadcaster in India. “Cricket Petta” – translating to Cricket Locality, aims to engage Tamil-speaking cricket enthusiasts by providing entertaining and insightful discussions on various aspects of the game with a local touch. Hosted by the versatile Tamil multi-sports commentator, Arun Venugopal, the five-episode podcast offers a refreshing take on cricket’s rich legacy and beyond.

    The first episode will be released on 30 October 2024, with new episodes airing every Wednesday until 27 November 2024. The podcast will be available on all leading Podcast platforms including YouTube, JioSaavan, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Gaana, and Hungama.

    Mumbai: The highly anticipated Hong Kong Cricket Sixes returns from 1 to 3 November, promising thrilling matches at the Tin Kwong Road Cricket Ground with 12 teams competing in six-a-side games.

    Spectators will enjoy a unique experience with exciting performances, great music, and delicious food. The teams are divided into four pools of three, with India, led by Robin Uthappa, in Pool C alongside Pakistan and the UAE. Hosts Hong Kong face South Africa and New Zealand in Pool A, while Pool B includes Australia, England, and Nepal. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Oman compete in Pool D.

    The tournament will kick off with the first match between South Africa and Hong Kong, and the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash will also occur on the opening day. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the quarter-finals, with the winners moving to the semi-finals. In a strategic move to position India as a global leader in online competitive and skill-based gaming, SOGF is working closely with the International Esports Federation (IESF) to organise world-class tournaments on Indian soil.

    In a meeting last week, representatives from the SOGF and the IESF General Secretary, Boban Totovski, jointly called upon the minister of youth affairs and sports, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, to discuss their milestone partnership aimed at shaping the future of India’s esports ecosystem.

    In the meeting, the sports minister expressed strong support for SOGF and IESF’s initiative to introduce world-class esports programmes in India, emphasising the significance of developing the ecosystem and providing Indian athletes with international opportunities. He also endorsed SOGF’s efforts to regulate the esports and skill-based gaming ecosystem, reinforcing the government’s commitment to fostering a fair and competitive environment for the industry’s growth.

    SOGF president Shankar Aggarwal stated: “We are extremely thankful to the government and IESF for turning things around in such a short period of time. India’s potential in esports is immense, and this collaboration has the power to transform the esports landscape in the country.     Mumbai: The World Tennis League (WTL) returns for its third season from 19 to 22 December 2024 at Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Arena. Organised by Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism and Miral, WTL season three will feature 16 top players across four teams, including Nick Kyrgios, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Iga Świątek, Aryna Sabalenka, Daniil Medvedev, and India’s Sumit Nagal.

    Alongside tennis, performances by Bryan Adams, Akon, Sean Paul, and Anastacia will add to the entertainment. This year’s ‘Kids Watch For Free’ initiative allows up to four children to enter for free with each adult ticket purchased. The previous edition drew 20,000 attendees and was broadcast in over 125 countries. WTL aims to further cement itself as a major global event by combining world-class sports and entertainment.
