    Amul is the official sponsor of the Indian contingent to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games

    NEW DELHI: Food products marketing organization Amul is the official sponsor of the Indian contingent at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

    The contract was signed by Indian Olympic Association Secretary General Rajeev Mehta and Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Amul) MD R S Sodhi today.

    In 2012, Amul sponsored the Indian contingent at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

    Amul has earlier been an avid supporter of various sporting events, may it be the Asian Games, Commonwealth games or other sports.

    To be inaugurated on 5 August 2016 in Brazil, the Rio Olympics will play host to the largest Indian contingent ever, with close to 100 sportspersons being a part of it.
    Amul aims to engage with youth and leverage the connection between the energy of milk and sports. It is the main ingredient for the fitness of any sportsman. Hence it is an appropriate association for Amul.

    Amul will launch a series of advertising campaigns for milk and various dairy products to promote this association in the coming months.

    Amul has embarked upon an “Eat Milk with Every Meal” campaign to highlight the importance of milk and dairy products like cheese, yogurt, butter, ghee, paneer etc. in the daily diet. Amul Doodh Pita hai India, one of Amul’s most loved campaign, will be used to cheer the Indian contingent. India is the largest producer of milk in the world and Amul is not only India’s but Asia’s largest milk brand.

    Sodhi said, “Amul is committed to strengthening the Olympic movement in India and encourage young generation from all over the country to take up Olympic sports. I take great pleasure and pride in announcing our sponsorship of the Indian contingent to the Olympic Games Rio 2016”.

    Explaining the foundation of this association, he said milk is nature’s original energy drink and plays a pivotal role in building the physical and mental strength of the athletes. Nutritious dairy diet is an important part in the diets of athletes around the world.

    Participation in Olympics is the aspiration of every athlete and with the kind of investments made by our country in this arena to select, nurture and train the best athletes, we are confident that Indian contingent will deliver the best ever performance in the Olympic games and make our country proud. Further, he said that this association will help in engaging the kids and youth so that they can enjoy a healthy life.”

  • Sony SIX to air Hero Caribbean Premier League in 6 countries

    Sony SIX to air Hero Caribbean Premier League in 6 countries

    MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Networks sports entertainment channel Sony SIX has bagged the exclusive broadcasting rights to the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in six countries. The CPL will commence on 30 June and culminate on 8 August 2016 and will broadcast live on Sony SIX in the Indian sub-continent comprising of India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal and Maldives. The network has also acquired the digital rights for the tournament and will live stream the matches on Sony LIV.

    The tournament will be held across six venues in the Caribbean, and for the first time six fixtures will be played in Lauderhill, Florida, USA.  The tournament will have six teams all teams battling it out in an initial group stage format before progressing to knock out matches.

    SPN president of Distribution & Sports Business Rajesh Kaul said, “India has always been receptive to the dynamic format of T20 cricket and we are excited to broadcast the CPL for the third consecutive time. CPL showcases some of the biggest talent on the cricketing stage and promises to be a treat for the cricket fans in India.     CPL COO Pete Russell added, “We are delighted to continue our Broadcast partnership with Sony SIX which will enable millions of supporters of CPL across the Indian sub-continent to follow the biggest party in sport. Indian followers are huge supporters of CPL and there will no doubt be keen interest in the fortunes of players who have graced the IPL with distinction for many years; including the likes of AB de Villiers, Brendon McCullum, Shakib Al Hasan, Dale Steyn, Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Sunil Narine amongst many others.     The opening match of the league will see defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders take on the St. Lucia Zouks on 30 June at 6:30 AM (IST). The weekends will allow fans to watch some of the matches on primetime hours – 9:30 PM (IST). 

    Building on the success of the recently concluded IPL, SPN is aiming at bringing the flair from the home of the current World T20 Champions, West Indies, to viewers of the Indian subcontinent through another fast-paced domestic league.

    BCCI appoints Anil Kumble as head coach

    MUMBAI: The BCCI announces appointment of Anil Kumble as the Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. He has been appointed for the period of one year.

    Given to his immense knowledge and experience, the BCCI is confident that Kumble will take Indian cricket forward and contribute to its growth and success. The Board is confident that Kumble will meet the consistent high standards of professionalism set by the Indian team and fulfills the expectations of the followers of Indian Cricket.

    India is set to host 13 Test matches, 8 ODIs & 3 T20Is in a mega home season (2016-17) and Kumble will play a major role in the collective objective of the Indian team to attain the top ranking in all three formats of the game.

    Kumble’s first assignment will be the upcoming away series in the West Indies, where India will play four Test matches.

    As part of the process for selecting the Head Coach, the Board received 57 applications, which were evaluated by the Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly with Sanjay Jagdale, the Chief Co-Coordinator. The Committee conducted interviews with select shortlisted applicants and submitted a report/recommendation to the Honorary Secretary Ajay Shirke.

    The Board recognizes the contribution of Team Director Ravi Shastri under whom India marched to the semi-finals in the ICC World Cup held in Australia and the ICC World T20 India 2016. With him as Team Director, India won the Test series in Sri Lanka after a gap of 22 years and also outplayed South Africa 3-0 in a four-Test home series before clinching the Asia Cup.

    MUMBAI: The 7th edition of WWE Money In The Bank Ladder Match was held on Sunday, 19th June, 2016 at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada. The 2016 edition saw eleven gripping matches as a part of their pay per view broadcast.

    On June 19, the seventh annual Money in the Bank pay-per-view took place in Las Vegas. For the traditional Money in the Bank ladder match, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Cesaro, Chris Jericho, Alberto Del Rio, and Dean Ambrose all won their qualifying matches on the May 23 episode of Raw to become entrants into the match. Originally slated to be a 7-man ladder match, the seventh slot was later removed. Ambrose won the match and received a WWE World Heavyweight Championship contract. Later in the night after the conclusion of the main event match, he cashed in the contract to challenge Seth Rollins and become WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
