    MUMBAI: This season, photography will take a competitive turn as India’s top 10 amateur photographers fight it out for one of the most coveted opportunities for a photographer – to be featured on the cover of National Geographic TravellerIndia magazine! Bringing back its successful mission series, National Geographic Channel is set to challenge young amateur photographers from across the country to embark on a journey of their lifetime on Nat GeoCovershot: Mission North East. Set in the serene North East, the show will bring out the competitive best of these young guns and make them do whatever it takes to click that perfect shot. Bringing together a compelling combination of breathtaking views, survival instincts, edgy photography along with a sharp strategy, the show premiers on April 26th and will air every Saturday at 10 pm on National Geographic Channel.

    Mentoring and judging the second season of Nat Geo Covershot will be two esteemed personalities – award winning photographer Lana Slezic and actor producer Rajiv Lakshman. With expertise in skill and psychology, the two judges will present a series of tasks for the contestants, urging them to bring out their best shot this season.  Hostess Shibani Dandekar will accompany these aspiring photographers in this life changing journey in the magnificent locales of North East India.

The series begins with Titanic Train Trek in which a team of British engineers attempt to haul two historic A4 Pacific steam locomotives – each worth more than ?2 million – more than five thousand miles across the Atlantic to the National Railway Museum in York. In the next one, an expert team of heavy haulers attempts to transport a massive World War One artillery gun 400 miles from the Royal Artillery in Wiltshire to a museum in Utrecht, Holland. The rare 200-ton gun was designed to be moved around the Western Front on rail lines.

    This year, the stakes are higher for the haulers and the owners. The experience will be tested and revealed in the exciting series of MEGA MOVES.

    Discovery sets 12 May for ‘Everest Jump Live’

    MUMBAI: Discovery Networks is set to telecast an unprecedented feat, with five nights of live programs in the lead up to Everest Jump Live, starting 6 May and culminating with the live jump on 12 May.

    The world renowned wing-suit jumper Joby Ogwyn will attempt the first flight off the summit of the mountain. Discovery will air Everest Jump Live in 224 countries and territories across the world.

    The channel will take viewers along the journey with two, one-hour pre-shows revealing Joby’s intense training and preparations for Everest. The special will then culminate with a live two-hour broadcast – showing Joby as he battles the grueling conditions on the way to Everest’s summit and ultimately takes the final plunge from the top. Joby’s custom-made wing suit will be equipped with cameras bringing a bird’s eye view as he descends more than 10,000 vertical feet at speeds of over 150 mph.

    Kicking-off the proceedings, NBC Sports’ Kyle Martino will host Everest: Live from Base Camp, and Chris Jacobs of Velocity, will provide viewers with a behind-the-scenes perspective for five nights live from the base camp at Mt. Everest. The five-night stunt starts 6 May at 8:30 am and will broadcast live in select markets across Asia, Latin America and Western Europe. Each night, Martino and Jacobs will check in with Joby Ogwyn­ to receive updates on where he is along the journey and to determine the challenges and dangers that lie ahead. This includes interviews with a variety of special guests, including the medics, Sherpa guides, other climbers and additional individuals making the event possible.

    “These nightly live programs enhance this already epic undertaking by allowing audiences a chance to share the experience and to see what it’s like to actually be at Everest Base Camp – not just for Joby, but for all those around the world who contribute to Everest’s unique culture,” said Discovery Networks International executive VP and chief content officer Luis Silberwasser in a statement. “We’re incredibly excited to bring together our diverse, global viewers to immerse themselves in an adventure like none other!”

    The live event is produced by Peacock Productions for Discovery with Gretchen Eisele, Colleen Halpin, Benjamin Ringe and Knute Walker serving as executive producers. Sharon Scott is president and GM of Peacock Productions. Howard Swartz serves as executive producer for Discovery. Discovery Education will bring the wonder of Everest to students nationwide with interactive content, digital learning experiences and resources found on its suite of digital classroom services.

    Ogwyn is no stranger to the Everest. He first summited the world’s highest peak at just 24-years of age, becoming the youngest American to make it to the top. In 2008, Joby set the world record for the fastest ascent of Mt. Everest, climbing from the base of the south side route to the summit in just nine and a half hours (it typically takes 3-4 days). Ever since then, he’s searched for the ultimate way to explore the mountain – and now he’s found it.

    “This will be the final piece of my dream. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve imagined what it would be like to fly. I can’t think of a more spectacular backdrop than Everest,” said Joby. “Everything that I’ve ever accomplished in my life has just been practice for what I’m about to do.”

    Ogwyn­ takes the plunge from atop the summit wearing a wingsuit equipped with cameras. The jump will air live in every pay-TV market for Discovery Networks International across the Asia Pacific, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Latin America, the Nordics and Western Europe, weather permitting.

    MUMBAI: Celebrating the essence of India’s rich folk music forms, ZeeQ, India’s fastest growing channel in the kids’ genre, has launched a new show ‘SATRANGI.’ The show will provide a platform to the young folk musicians of India and showcase their lineage, their traditions and their vast musical talents.

     

    Making its debut on the 25th of April, at 7pm, SATRANGI will take you on a journey of untold stories of artists who have nurtured various forms of music and have learned to play traditional musical instruments that have added to the splendour of India’s musical heritage.

    The longest road journey by a Chef creates record

    “Life is lived not by the number of hours you’ve spent working, but by the number of kilometers you’ve gained traveling.”

     

    That’s what young Chef  Saransh Goila (26), did with his television show, Roti, Rasta Aur India, on FOODFOOD, India’s No 1 food lifestyle  channel, that entered the Limca Book of Records  The food travelogue moved across  India, for 100 days, covering 100 cities and staying and meeting people in around 60 cities, approximately over 20,000 km by road. His journey, on Roti, Rasta Aur India, was a journey about the people of India, the way they cook and eat, their culture and daily life. The objective was to showcase the multi faceted nation, its people and the rich traditions and cuisine.

     

    The culinary journey started from and ended in Delhi. Chef Goila also anchored the show which was first aired on August 24, 2012 at 8.00 pm.
    Ecstatic over his achievement Saransh said, ”I  am the luckiest 26- year- old Chef  who got to travel 20,000 km across  India, non-stop, in 100 days ,by road. It was a dream to travel, explore & relish food cooked by different people in different locations. Every state, village and town has a lot of distinctive characters which reflects in the taste of their food and their style of cooking,”

     

    He further added, “All the experiences helped me change my perspective about food & life. Through this show, I have realized that the things we city dwellers take for granted are nothing short of a luxury in some parts of India. Most people I met lead extremely difficult lives, but are ever so grateful for what they have. Now, my style of cooking is very rustic and I believed in preserving traditional food. The result: I am being called ‘Sadak Chef’.”

     

    Roti, Rasta Aur India , was a  journey across India, with Chef Saransh, taking a look at the  culinary heritage of the country and tracing its history. It showcased the rich traditional Indian cuisine, unique, yet diverse in flavors, made with distinct cooking originating from every region in India.  

     

    Through this food travelogue the young Chef touched the lives of hundreds of people and became   a part of their lives for a day. Besides, meeting new communities, cooking for them and eating with them, he also had enchanting and enriching food stories to share with the audience.
