    MUMBAI: In tandem with Zee Telugu’s promise to encourage women to take a lead in their life, the channel has launched a new fiction show called Fida. The new (dubbed) fiction show comes as good news for Pallavi Gowda’s fans, where the story revolves between a girl, played by Pallavi Gowoda, who is bold and beautiful, and a man who is calm and composed. The story beautifully captures the emotion of love and how love can transform people for the better.  This new show launched on January 28th, 2019, from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM only on Zee Telugu and Zee Telugu HD.

    Valli and Deva, two opposite personalities from a scenic village of Allapuzha, fall in love with each other. Valli, a smart and a young teacher initiates a relationship with Deva, who is shy and an introvert. While Deva’s life changes as he turns to becoming a romantic person, his sister-in-law, Shreeja is against Deva getting married to Valli and takes every possible step to sabotage the relationship. Shreeja doesn’t want to entertain the thought of another daughter-in law in the family, fearing a share in the wealth of the family. Hence, Shreeja influences her cousin, Malavika and instructs her to win Deva’s heart. The more Malavika falls in love with Deva, the more Deva gets attracted towards Valli. Except Shreeja, who has a strong control over Deva’s fate, other family members support Valli and her love for Deva.

    Sun Network’s R Mahesh Kumar says TRAI tariff order will have positive impact on subscription revenue

    MUMBAI: With the new tariff order of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) coming into effect from 1 February 2019, Sun TV Network president R Mahesh Kumar believes subscription revenue will be positively impacted with the radical change.

    "We have to wait and see how it pans out. I think it will have a positive impact on subscription revenue," news agency PTI quoted him as saying.

    Mahesh Kumar is also of the opinion that the distribution landscape in south India will witness major impact due to the new norms.

    “Analog connection in Tamil Nadu, one of our major market, is still at 35-40 percent," he further added.

    The behemoth network is set to roll out it's latest offering – Sun Bangla – on 3 February. The network is expected to invest close to Rs 150 crore into the GEC channel in the first year.

    "Sun Bangla will start airing from February 3 and we hope to garner sizeable market in the Rs 1200 crore Bengali general entertainment category channels," Sun Group CFO S L Narayanan had said during a post-earnings conference call.

    The Sun Network also has a Marathi channel in the pipeline.

    MUMBAI: In 2018, it was reported that the Southern broadcast behemoth, Kalanithi Maran-owned Sun TV Network intended to travel to new language markets of the country – Marathi and Bengali. The broadcaster has now fixed 3 February as the launch date for its Bengali offering.

    Sun Network has started promoting its channel, Sun Bangla, with the tagline ‘MonePraneBangali.’ Sun Group chief financial officer (CFO) SL Narayanan told analysts during a post-earnings conference call that it will invest Rs 150 crore on Sun Bangla in its first year.

    In addition to this, in the earlier conference call, the Sun TV Network management had said that Sun Bangla is expected to achieve break-even within two or three years. The channel will have original commissioned content. The management has projected that the Bangla channel will achieve 10-12 per cent viewership within a couple of years.

    MUMBAI: As per the recently released BARC weekly data (Urban + Rural) for the first week of the year 2019, Zee Kannada has claimed the top position in the Kannada market with a total of 415697 impressions ‘000s; 171167 impressions ‘000s in the urban market, 244530 in the rural market, with robust growth across its prime-time fiction shows. Continuing to hold the leadership position in the Urban market for the last 12 weeks, Zee Kannada has now earned the distinction of being the leader for the first time in the last 13 years.

    Taking to the challenge of reaching the market leader position, Zee Kannada has secured 260314 impressions ‘000s in its prime-time band, with its top shows including Yaare Nee Mohini, Paaru, and Brahmangantu. The channel has also secured leadership position across its prime-time slots in the Non-Fiction shows such a SRGMP15 & Drama Juniors 3.

    Star India elevates Kevin Vaz as CEO of regional entertainment channels

    MUMBAI: Star India has promoted Kevin Vaz as CEO of regional entertainment channels. The regions include Maharashtra, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Karnataka.

    Previously, Vaz was CEO of South entertainment channels. He has spent 22 years serving Star India. Before heading the entertainment channels in Southern market, he was the business head of English cluster. In 2015, he was roped in to head the youth and entertainment channel, Channel V.

    Vaz, who has also worked as Star India’s president ad sales, became head of English channels (FX, Fox Crime, Star World, Star World HD, Star World Premiere HD, Star Movies, Star Movies Action) and Star Jalsha and Jalsha Movies in March 2013.

    Star India has a very large bouquet of regional entertainment channels which includes, Star Jalsha, Star Pravah, Jalsha Movies, Maa Movies with their HD versions, Maa Gold, Maa Music to name a few.

    Regional channels are outpacing many other genres in terms of growth and all large broadcasters have or are planning to enhance their regional channel bouquets. Most are entering markets not with just a GEC, but with a combined offering across entertainment, movies, kids and music.

    In FY18, however, the ad expenditure on Hindi GECs declined by 9 per cent while the regional channels saw a spike of 5.4 per cent, outlining the overall growth of the regional market in India, according to KPMG in India’s Media and Entertainment report 2018.

    According to FICCI 2018 Re-imagining India’s M&E sector report, the top 10 channel genres accounted for 47 per cent of total ad volumes. Of these, 30 per cent of all ad volumes were on Hindi channels, while the balance 17 per cent were from Tamil, Telugu and Bangla.

    Zee Kannada to launch a first-of-its-kind horror thriller fiction show – Aatmabandhana

    MUMBAI: Zee Kannada, every Kannadiga household’s hub of entertainment, further strengthens its fiction band with innovative content post the successful launch of Paaru. Aatmabandhana, is a story narrating the never-ending love between a mother and her son; and how even death cannot put an end to emotions, ranging from love to revenge. . The channel is all prepped to make its ardent audience enter the paranormal world with their new horror-thriller fictional show Aatmabandhana, on-air every weeknight starting 17th December at 10:30 PM only on Zee Kannada and Zee Kannada HD.

    Aatmabandhana is about a five-year-old boy, Chiru, who believes that his mother, Arati, prefers his sister, Chaitra over him. In an unfortunate turn of events, Aarti along with her children, Chiru and Chaitra, meet with a road accident, and Aarti is only able to save Chaitra. Arati believes that even during Chiru's last breath, she made him feel that she chose Chaitra over him. Aarti, with the help of her maid, goes to a place to ask for forgiveness to his son’s soul, when his soul returns to vindicate his death against his mother.

    The cast of Aatmabandhana comprises of the marvellous actor Rajini Amrutha who plays the pivotal role of the mother, Aarti. The talented actor Master Alaap, former Drama Juniors Season 2 contestant, who portrays the role of Chiru, and dynamic child actor Shivaani, portrays the role of the sister, Chaitra. The other actors includeLakshmigowda, Suresh Rai, Ramamurthy, Rajesh, Nethra Sindhya, Sunethra Padit. The show is directed by well-known director G. K. Satishkrishnan and produced by ingenious Mahesh Gowda and Dr. Suma under Dvija Creations banner.  The cinematography is executed by Santhosh Begankal koppa while the story expansion and screenplay is compassed by S. Selvam and Girish Kalkoppa’s team. The credit for the dialogues, music and title song goes to Rathnagiri, Vinay, and Harshapriya respectively. The graphics design is done by Mumbai's Mudra Graphics of 'Ughe Ughe Madeshwara' fame that will ensure to take the viewers entertainment quotient to a whole new level.

    MUMBAI: If there’s any broadcaster known to be a pioneer it’s the Zee Network. With a wide reach in the regional part of India, Zee already has leadership positions in Bangla, Marathi and Bhojpuri markets as per BARC data week 48. Now it wants to buck up in the Kannada market with the newly launched HD channel for its GEC. 

    The rationale behind the revamp and the launch of HD channel was the changing mindsets of the ambitious Kannadiga wanting to break free from things that are holding them back in life, wanting to thrive and become the architect of their own lives. Building on the consumer sentiment, a new brand proposition 'Bayasid'dha Bāgilu Tegiyōṇa', which translates to “Open Doors to Possibilities”, was planned to inspire women to rise above their circumstances and craft their own destiny.

    Zee Kannada’s market share in the weeks 14-20 was 22 per cent from week average of 21-39 that came to 27 per cent (total TV). Its relative share grew by 6 per cent i.e., from 19 per cent in FY16 to 25 per cent in FY19, till week 39 (total market). The channel grew rapidly from 295 GRPs in FY16 to 546 GRPs in FY19 (week 39) and registered an 85 per cent growth in both urban and rural markets.

    Speaking to Indiantelevision.com, Zee Kannada business head Raghavendra Hunsur said that most of the content on Zee Kannada will be showcased on the new HD channel, accompanied by the new brand proposition which will provide viewers a whole new content line up offering a complete visual experience with its new HD channel.

    “We are still working out our exclusive content offering for the HD channel and will speak about it when the time is right. All our content reflects the changing mindsets of our viewers and is deeply rooted in our culture and tradition,” he added.

    As per BARC data week 48, Zee Kannada stood at second position with 389247 impressions (000s) sum, followed by Udaya TV, Udaya Movies and Colors Super securing third, fourth and fifth positions respectively with 196316 impressions (000s) sum, 188975 impressions (000s) sum and 141803 impressions (000s) sum. Meanwhile, Colors Kannada garnered leadership position with 450055 impressions (000s) sum.

    The channel’s overall promotional and marketing strategy included brand refresh teasers, a brand film, and four fiction promos that would bring alive the brand promise. Speaking about which genre is working well with the Kannadigas, Hunsur said that both fiction and non-fiction genres have been doing extremely well. But in terms of ratings, non-fiction offerings have been growing phenomenally year on year.

    He further added, “We are also witnessing impressive growth in the fiction genre, which offers differentiated content reflective of today’s changing mindsets, deeply rooted in our culture and tradition and based on our extensive research and insights.”

    He claimed that the characters and protagonists have resonated well with the audience. Giving more information about Zee Kannada’s flagship shows, he named Comedy Khiladigalu and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs (season 14), Naagini and Kamali.

    Echoing the new brand positioning of Zee Kannada, the channel underwent a brand refresh with the key existing fiction and non-fiction shows that included Kamali, Brahmagantu, Jodi Hakki, Subbalakshmi Samsara, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Season 15, Shree Vishnu Dashavatara, and soon-to-be-launched Paru and Aatma Bandhana.

    As per the KPMG in India's Media and Entertainment Report 2018, the Kannada segment saw a 63 per cent change in viewership in the year 2017 compared to 2016. When it comes to language-wise AdEx split based on ad value, Tamil and Marathi saw a marginal decline of 2 per cent and 9 per cent respectively while other major ones like Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Malayalam and Oriya saw a growth in their contribution to the overall AdEx in FY18.

The film is about power play between the characters as we see Chaitanya’s father getting them engaged in the spur of the moment but Anu’s mother complicating the situation by insisting she gets engaged to a doctor.     The story proceeds with Chaitanya visiting Anu’s village and learning that Anu and her mother have not been talking to each other for years. How he untangles the strings to help them come to a conclusion is what forms the crux of the story.

    Directed by Maruthi, the film is a good mix of entertainment and emotions which beautifully captures how Chaitanya manages to fix his marriage despite being surrounded by three egoistic people who hold the decision making power for his marriage with Anu.
