    Anup Viswanathan quits Sony Entertainment Television

    MUMBAI: The news of the New Year’s first high-profile exit from the television and entertainment industry just came in.

    Sony Entertainment Television (SET)’s senior vice-president – marketing  Anup Viswanathan has resigned. A source close to the development confirmed the news to Indiantelevision.com that he served his last day in the organisation on 13 January. 

    As of now, there is no replacement for Vishwanathan. For the time being, SET vice-president – marketing Aman Shrivastava would look after the duties and responsibilities of the former senior vice- president – marketing.

    Vishwanathan joined SET in September 2015 from Times Network where he worked as the marketing head for the English entertainment cluster. 

    Prior to joining Times Network, he worked with Leo Burnett for eight years.  He  worked on brands such as HDFC Life, Tata Capital, McDonald’s, Sony Entertainment Television, Sony Pix and AXN. While at Leo Burnett, he has also worked on the reality show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ which was telecast by Sony Entertainment Television.

    Indiantelevision.com reported in November 2015 that Vishwanathan was roped in as a part of the incumbent SET EVP and business head Danish Khan’s core team along with Anshuman Sinha and Ritesh Modi.

    BTVi appoints journo Muralidhar Swaminathan as channel director

    MUMBAI: BTVi has appointed Muralidhar Swaminathan as the channel director. A veteran financial news journalist, Swaminathan comes with experience of around 33 years in print and television broadcasting.

    BTVi executive editor Siddharth Zarabi said, “Murali’s vast experience and leadership acumen are a value addition to the BTVi ethos. His truly integrated and cohesive leadership skills will drive us to even greater heights in the years to come.”

    Swaminathan, said, “I am looking forward to partnering with the talented, young leadership team to deliver the company’s vision and invigorate growth.”

    Murali has held senior editorial positions in leading financial dailies of the country, as well as news broadcast platforms. He is a PG Degree holder in Economics from Bangalore University.

    MUMBAI: As Balaji Telefilms’ Alt Digital gears up for its launch in 2017, it has roped in marketing veteran Manav Sethi as its chief marketing officer. Sethi will oversee the company’s entire communications strategy in India and will also look after its international expansion.

    Balaji Telefilms group CEO Sameer Nair said, “Manav is ideally suited to support the vision we’re working towards at ALT Balaji. We are looking forward to harnessing his experience and expertise as we launch, grow and expand our footing.     Is ETV’s Jagdish Chandra joining Zee Media?

    MUMBAI: ETV News Network’ Jagdish Chandra has called it a day as the company’s CEO and has already served his notice period.

    Chandra, a source said, plans to join Zee Media Corporation and is already negotiating with Essel Group chairman Subhash Chandra. He was not available for comment.

    It is interesting to note that Zee Business, an arm of Zee Media, does not have a head as of yet.  

    Chandra was a senior administrator in Rajasthan before he took voluntary retirement in 2008 to join ETV Madhya Pradesh and ETV Rajasthan, and also head the editorial section.

    Recently, ETV hired Samsung’s Rajiv Mishra as the business head for the group to manage satellite TV channels namely — News18 Tamil Nadu, News18  Kerala,  News18  Assam and North East,  ETV Rajasthan, ETV Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand, ETV Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, ETV Bihar and Jharkhand, ETV Urdu, ETV Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, ETV News Gujarati, ETV News Bangla, ETV News Kannada and ETV News Odia.

    TV18 Broadcast, a subsidiary of Network 18, acquired the Ramoji Rao-promoted ETV network in January 2014 for Rs 2,053 crore. The deal resulted in it acquiring 100 per cent of regional Hindi news channels ETV Uttar Pradesh, ETV Madhya  Pradesh,  ETV Rajasthan, ETV Bihar and ETV Urdu and 50 per cent in ETV Marathi, ETV Kannada, ETV Bangla, ETV Gujarati and ETV Odia.

    Telugu news and GEC channels ETV Telugu and ETV Telugu News will, however, see TV18 owning only 24.50 per cent equity.

    9X Media appoints Rajitta Hemwaani as SVP

    MUMBAI: Rajitta Hemwaani has joined as senior vice president 9X Media and will head SonicX, a new business division initiated to tap the business potential and talent of independent music content.

    Hemwaani would be reporting to 9X Media managing director Pradeep Guha.

    Prior to joining 9X Media, Hemwaani was with a digital radio platform Audioboom UK as the India head. With a career spanning over 20 years, Hemwaani has worked with Star TV Network for two years from 2013 to 2015 as VP content and was also associated with Universal Music Group from 2008-11.

    “9X Media has always nurtured and encouraged talent by providing them appropriate platforms through the Network’s properties of music channels and content portals. As the Company gears up to discover, nurture and proliferate independent music content and talent, Rajitta’s rich and diverse experience will be of immense value,” said Guha.
