  • Hinduja Group’s Ashish Kaul joins Prakash Jha Productions as CEO

    MUMBAI: Prakash Jha Productions has appointed the media and entertainment vet Ashish Kaul as the CEO for its television and digital business.

    Kaul has taken up this role after being the business head for IN Entertainment India Limited, the digital cable broadcasting & content business of Hinduja Group. He had joined the group in 2012 as the vice-president.

    Kaul has over 23 years of experience in leadership roles across managing businesses across entertainment, news, ITES, retail and consumer goods. He has served in executive governance roles with conglomerates such as the Essel Group / Zee Network, Credence International, BAG Films, Bajaj Herbals and Golden Medias. He was also the CEO for Association of Motion Pictures & TV Programme Producers in India.

    Prakash Jha Productions is a brand incorporated by the well-known director of topical cinema Prakash Jha, to take his unique brand ‘Cinema with Power’ forward.

    Prakash Jha Productions has been synonymous with the production of quality films for over 20 years. He is a multiple award-winning filmmaker known nationally and internationally for his critically acclaimed and popular films including Amitabh Bachchan starters Satyagraha & Aarakshan, and Raajneeti, Apaharan, Gangaajal, Mrityudand, Parinati and Damul as well as award-winning documentaries such as Sonal, Faces After The Storm, Kudiattam, and Looking Back. Other feature productions include Rahul (2001), Dil Kya Kare (1999) and Hip Hip Hurray (1983).

    Confirming the news to Indiantelevision.com, Kaul said, “Television and digital media is a sunrise industry with tremendous potential of reach and value for the advertisers. I believe the approach to content production and management for television and digital space is not yet understood by the industry and I believe Prakash Jha Productions will be that catalyst of change. Personally, I would like to bring in a collaborative effort to content creation that delivers reach, popularity and ultimately value to the advertisers.”

  • Zee TV’s Zulfia Waris to join Discovery Network

    MUMBAI: Zee Entertainment Enterprises ltd (ZEEL)’s non-fiction and events programming head Zulfia Waris has resigned.

    A source close to the development informed www.indiantelevision.com that Waris has already served her notice period in Zee. Waris, who had joined Zee TV in July 2015, will now be joining Discovery Network as the vice-president (female and family) from 1 March, 2017.

    Prior to joining Zee TV, Waris was the VP and head of development of weekend fiction and non fiction for Star Plus for more than two years. Waris was associated with Star India in various roles. She joined Channel V in July 2008 as a senior executive producer for programming and served there for over than four years.

    In 2013, she moved to head the non-fiction development for Star Network where she developed non-fiction concepts and formats with in-house teams and production houses.

    Republic appoints Chauhan, to set up global innovation centre in Bengaluru

    MUMBAI: Jay Chauhan has joined Republic as COO for the digital venture and CTO for broadcast news.

    With 20 years of experience spanning television, digital and healthcare, Chauhan will be responsible for setting up and establishing market leadership for Republic’s global digital properties. Additionally, as CTO, he will be introducing innovation into news gathering as well as mobility solutions into technical operations for broadcast.

    Prior to joining Republic, Chauhan was CIO at NDTV Worldwide where he built two healthcare start-ups. Chauhan has led engineering teams leading to the launch of NDTV’s flagship channels, led the technology consulting division and successfully driven high-margin sales initiatives across the APAC region.

    A key focus area within Republic’s digital strategy will be setting up of its global innovation centre in Bengaluru to house its team of data scientists, machine learning experts, developers and UX architects to build Republic’s sophisticated content platform.

In past he has worked with companies like Star TV – TV Ad sales & Online Ads Sales for Hotstar & Starsports.com. He was responsible for setting up and mentoring the Ads business for Amagi media and prior to that was part of Radio Mirchi in various capacities across India.

    Anushrav Gulati has joined Network18 Digital as Business Head for the Languages portfolio. Anushrav comes with experience across e-commerce, search and publishing domains. In his last assignment Anushrav was responsible for setting up the Digital team, processes and business initiatives for India TV Digital.

    Both Rajiv and Anushrav will be reporting to Maheshwari.

    MUMBAI: Media mogul Subhash Chandra-led Zee Media Corporation Ltd  (ZMCL)’s English news channel WION and English daily DNA’s editor-in-chief Rohit Gandhi has resigned. 

    Gandhi joined ZMCL in August 2015 to head the editorial operations of its English news channel WION. In April 2016, he was assigned the additional charge as editor-in-chief of its English daily DNA. 

    Prior to joining ZMCL, Gandhi was working with South Asian International News as its international correspondent, producer and communication strategist. Gandhi was a producer and editor at CNN from 2000 to 2006, specialising in conflict zone and investigative news coverage. 

    Later, he joined CBC, where he reported and produced news stories from Asia.

    Gandhi joined ZMCL in August 2015 to head the editorial operations of its English news channel WION. In April 2016, he was assigned the additional charge as editor-in-chief of its English daily DNA.

Prior to this he was at Tata Docomo as Vice President/Group Head- New Businesses. He has also worked with companies like Vodafone etc earlier.
