  • News9 Plus Corporate Cup 2023 winners have an exclusive date with Lothar Matthaus in Munich

News9 Plus Corporate Cup 2023 winners have an exclusive date with Lothar Matthaus in Munich

Mumbai: TV9 Network recently organised the News9 Plus Corporate Cup, where the victorious HDFC Bank team had the privilege of experiencing a Bundesliga match in Germany. It is evident that this event has much to offer.

Before the highly anticipated match at Allianz Arena, the HDFC Bank Team had the privilege of visiting the Bundesliga Esports centre, where they witnessed virtual football competitions involving Bundesliga teams.  TV9 Network and the winning team got a chance to meet and interact with Lothar Matthus, the inaugural FIFA World Player of the Year in 1991, 1990 Ballon d’Or winner, and Roman Weidenfeller, former Germany, and Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper.

When the TV9 Network team presented the Lord Ganesha idol to Lothar Matthaus, he held the statue in his hands and was overwhelmed with emotion. The gift of Lord Ganesha brought him immense joy. It is no surprise, as he, a legendary figure in German football, has the World Cup under his belt. Currently seated in Bayern Munich’s den, Matthaus continues to inspire. Just as TV9 Network presented a gift to Lord Ganesh, Matthaus reciprocated by signing a Bayern Munich jersey and sending it back.

Matthaus himself expressed his interest in Indian football, acknowledging that India has a relatively young football culture. He conveyed his willingness to contribute to Indian football if the need arises. Additionally, he expressed his desire to visit India and meet his fans.

He commended TV9’s remarkable initiative, acknowledging its lasting impact. The Corporate Cup serves as a platform to discover new talents, and in the days to come, it will continue to uncover promising individuals. Bringing talented players from a vast country like India should not pose a challenge; it simply requires effective scouting.

Roman Wiedenfeller, another distinguished World Cup player, shared valuable insights into Indian football and engaged in separate discussions with the team.

Having secured the championship in the one-of-a-kind corporate tournament on May 7, the members of HDFC Bank Team experienced the exhilarating spectacle of the European giants Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig clash in a highly anticipated German first-division football match on Saturday, May 20, in Munich, Germany. Joining the winning team in the stands to witness the breath-taking football action was Girish Mahajan, Maharashtra’s Sports, and Youth Welfare Minister.

With bated breath, the football aficionados watched from the stands as the two powerhouse teams battled it out on the pitch. The match was filled with pulsating moments, brilliant displays of skill, and relentless determination from both sides. The crowd erupted in applause as the players showcased their exceptional abilities and strategic prowess. The visitors RB Leipzig emerged victorious with a stunning 3-1 win, ending Bayern Munich’s hopes of securing their 11th successive title.

While sharing his experience, HDFC bank senior VP Sukesh Shastri said, “Our time in Germany was truly electrifying. Witnessing the match alongside passionate football fans from around the world was a remarkable experience. Meeting legends like Mr. Lothar Matthus and Roman Weidenfeller was the main highlight of our trip. It is a great experience for all the corporations in India that TV9 Network has built and from here we just expect to go to the next level.”

The News9 Corporate Cup has left an indelible impression in the corporate realm, weekend football has typically revolved around prize money. However, TV9’s visionary initiative has sparked a different kind of dream, opening new horizons for the future.

The promo campaign embodies the spirit of India which is a land of various sports starting from Cricket which captures the largest share but at the same time, the country has grown to make space for various other disciplines like Kabaddi, Football, Volleyball and many other sports. Handball has a long history in India and has been in the shadows. Now, with Premier Handball League, the world’s fastest Olympic sport is going to get its due in India enthralling the Indian audience with high-octane action.

The promo film depicts a conglomeration of sports that are being played in India and handball players taking over all the fields and leading people from various spheres of life to the Handball stadium to experience the new and exciting Premier Handball League.

Speaking about the launch of the campaign, Bluesport Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. president Abhinav Banthia said, “We all know that Handball has existed in the country for a long time and the sole objective of the campaign was to showcase how India is going to awaken and accept a sport that they haven’t seen on their screens and stadium before. We have seen many hero stories coming from a number of new sports leagues that have emerged. Premier Handball League is the very launchpad which was needed for the players to not only showcase their skills to India but at a global level. On 8 June, India will be treated to a truly ‘Different Ball Game’.”

The background score of the film has been composed by Shikhar Naad Qureshi, the son and disciple of the legendary music composer and percussionist Taufiq Qureshi. Qureshi performs his trademark voice and breath percussions and truly brings a flavour of excitement to the whole campaign while keeping the spiel of both urban and rural to it.

“When I was approached to score the vocal percussion for the film, I was completely intrigued by the concept. I was surprised, how the sport is really popular in rural India and has a rich history, but yet hasn’t found its day in the sun at a national level.  I, along with Shikhar Naad, designed the music keeping rural India’s calling for the sport, and the backgrounds from where most players emerge, also, connecting it with the kind of contemporary audiences the league wants to appeal to. I am hopeful that the campaign really does wonders in drawing viewers for the league,” said Qureshi

  • “Congress government in Karnataka may fall after 2024 LS elections”: Himanta Biswa Sarma

“Congress government in Karnataka may fall after 2024 LS elections”: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Mumbai: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the new Congress Government in Karnataka may not last its full term, and may fall after BJP wins the 2024 Lok Sabha general elections.

He was replying to questions from Rajat Sharma in the show ‘Aap Ki Adalat’, that telecasted on India TV on 27 May, 3023. When it was pointed out that Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar have decided on sharing two and a half years of rule in Karnataka, Sarma said: “I don’t think they will get to do this. After the 2024 Lok Sabha general elections, the government is surely going to fall”.

Rajat Sharma: Look, they made a good arrangement, two and a half years for Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar?

Sarma: Do you think the government will run for two and a half years? Will that government remain after Lok Sabha elections?

Rajat Sharma: That you can say.

Sarma: You can say because you have so many years’ experience.

Rajat Sharma: Will it depend on how many people (MLAs) come to Assam?

Sarma: Do you think so?. Do you really think this government will exist after Lok Sabha elections? I don’t think so?

Rajat Sharma: Then what will happen?

Sarma: It will break. There will be another chief minister.”

Sarma predicted that the BJP will win more than 300 seats in next year’s Lok Sabha elections. He said, “India is going through one of its best periods in its history. People feel proud of their past heritage and 6,000-year-old civilization. They want to get rid of the Gandhi family which has a feudal mindset. Modi has brought about a big transformation in the minds of the people of India.”

Asked by Rajat Sharma whether he and UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath are competing with each other in advocating strident ‘Hindutva’, Sarma replied, “I come from a small state. Please do not compare an apple with an orange. I have my dreams for Assam and I am going to fulfill them.”

Sarma revealed what happened in the meeting with Rahul Gandhi, after which he left Congress and joined BJP.

Rajat Sharma: I heard you went and met Rahul Gandhi, but he devoted more time to his pet.

Sarma, “No, the story is like this. Rahul Gandhi  had called a meeting in which the then CM Tarun Gogoi, myself, party in-charge C. P. Joshi and Assam Congress chief Anjan Dutta  were present. We went to his room and talks began. Five minutes later, his pet dog came, and started eating the biscuits that were served with tea for us on the table.  I looked at the other three leaders, they were eating comfortably from the same table. I had gone to meet for the first time. I felt, this was their culture, having food with pet dogs. I said, I can’t be like this, I can’t eat like this. I decided not to go there again.”

Rajat Sharma: Later Rahul posted a video with his pet dog?

Sarma: Yes, it was the same pet dog. ..

Rajat Sharma: But Congress people wrote with the video, the dog proved more loyal than you?

Sarma: Now where is the question of loyalty? We did not join the party for loyalty to a family. Were they paying my salary to me? We should demystify all this. Rahul was one of our colleagues in a political party. Others may have taken favours from him. I don’t know what Congressmen have in mind about loyalty. For me, loyalty is not to a family, my loyalty is to the nation….Whatever is left of the Congress today is because of Mahatma Gandhi. They hijacked his name. Even today, if you cut out the surname of Gandhi from Sonia ji and Rahul’s names, what is left? This title has been hijacked. Congress belongs to Mahamanav  Mahatma Gandhi. Otherwise, where is the Congress? Gandhi family does not belong to Mahatma Gandhi.”

The Assam CM said, “Look, I knew Rahul Gandhi since childhood and I was never impressed by his merit. When I was in Congress, I used to meet Sonia Gandhi regularly, but I never met Rahul Gandhi. I was never impressed by his merits, his deeds, his arguments, logic and his capacity to do public service. Those who never struggle in life, can never become the leader of a country like India.”

On closing down of Madarsas in Assam, Sarma said, “I want Muslim youths to get modern education. Though it is their families’ duty to see what education they get, I am trying to create a progressive eco-system for Muslim community.”

On the issue of uniform civil code, the Assam CM said, “I predict, 15 to 20 years from now, every Muslim woman voter will vote for BJP, because we have abolished ‘triple talaq’ and we will surely do away with polygamy. Even Prophet Mohammed, whom Muslims revere as ‘Nabi’, was in favour of monogamy. On polygamy, the Prophet had said, this could be done only with the consent of existing wives. The Directive Principles of State Policy in our Constitution clearly says we should bring a common civil code, which we will surely implement.”

On the controversy over the PM inaugurating the new Parliament building, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Gandhi family does not want anybody else except from the family to inaugurate the new Parliament. Sonia and Rahul Gandhi have never been able to digest the fact that Narendra Modi is the prime minister. I was in Congress for 22 years. I know how and when the Gandhi family insulted past Presidents including Giani Zail Singh. Had the new Parliament building been ready during UPA rule, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would not have been allowed to inaugurate. Instead the chairperson of the so-called UPA Sonia Gandhi would have inaugurated it. Had the Congress been worried about an Adivasi woman President, it would not have fielded Yashwant Sinha against Droupadi Murmu in the presidential election.”

The Assam CM said, “When I was in Congress, I had good relations with Sonia Gandhi.  To the extent that she sent me to work for the party during Mizoram and Manipur elections. I toiled hard for the party. When my time came, I went to Sonia Ji and asked for her support, but she did not give. Tell me, what is the value of such a relationship?”
