    The ICC World Cup 2023 will be played at 10 prestigious venues across India. The tournament kicks off on 5 October with an electrifying match-up between England and New Zealand in Ahmedabad. Over 46 days, 48 matches will be played at world-class venues, culminating in the Men’s Cricket World Cup Final on 19 November at the largest cricket stadium in the world, in Ahmedabad.

    Mumbai: CNBC-Awaaz successfully concluded its first zonal awards, West Zone of the 14th Real Estate Awards & Conclave, presented by RR Kabel. The West Zone edition of the initiative took place in Ahmedabad on 30 September 2023. During the conclave, prominent leaders in the industry, real estate developers, policymakers, experts, and influential figures came together to discuss the latest trends impacting the real estate sector’s future and to seek ways to expedite its progress in the coming years.

    The event commenced with a welcome address by CNBC Awaaz & CNBC Bajaar editor Anuj Singhal who set the tone for the evening. He said, “This is the first-time post-pandemic that we are on the ground celebrating the achievements of our real estate industry members. This award ceremony is one of the most trusted in the nation, and this can be justified by the amount of support and participation it receives from the real estate fraternity.     The awards & conclave also featured several panel discussions comprising esteemed industry personalities. The first discussion, titled ‘India’s Real Estate: Fastest Growing In The World’ brought together industry thought leaders including Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) chief executive authority D P Desai; NAREDCO Gujarat president Suresh Patel; CREDAI National president-elect and Ganesh Housing MD  Shekhar Patel; RR Kabel MD Shreegopal Kabra; and Knight Frank India executive director Gulam Zia.

    The subsequent discussion centred around ‘West India: Leading the Future of Urbanisation’ hosted panelists such as Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s deputy municipal commissioner, Mihir Patel; Gujarat Housing Board’s deputy commissioner, K S Jhala; CREDAI Ahmedabad-GIHED’s president, Tejas Joshi; CEPT University’s adjunct professor, Prof. Vatsal Patel; Surat Diamond Bourse’s CEO, Mahesh Gadhavi; and RR Kabel’s MD Shreegopal Kabra.. Talking briefly about the topic, K S Jhala said, “Gujarat Housing Board is the initiative of the Gujarat Government, which was established in the year 1960. With the core objective of affordable housing, the board has constructed all in all two lakhs plus houses. Redevelopment is of utmost importance due to the duration of the construction of those houses. With that, we ensure sustainable development and make the optimum use of land. The Gujarat Government already has 30 redevelopment schemes in the process with 125 in the pipeline and 48 tenders have already been floated. We have also created a Trust that will cater to the major areas of the state for the redevelopment.”

    The concluding panel for the evening was around an insightful theme, ‘Preventing Electrical Fires: Innovations in Fire Detection and Suppression.’ The panel featured Ahmedabad Fire & Emergency Services (AFES) chief fire officer, JN Khadia; Fire and Security Association of India (FSAI) presidential member, Pankaj Dharkar; and RR Kabel’s MD Shreegopal Kabra.

    Preceding the award ceremony, the chief guest of the evening Harsh Sanghavi, Home Minister, MoS Home & Industries, Youth, Sports & Culture addressed the audience. Speaking on the topic, Gujarat’s role in the growing Indian realty industry, he said,” In Gujarat, people often pray for a dream home. I would like to thank the Hon’ble Prime Minister for making this dream come true for the citizens of India. He fulfilled this dream by the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana providing a home to all the citizens. The due support of our real estate builders is crucial for the same.     Mumbai: The excitement is palpable as Goa prepares to host the 37 National Games from 25 October to 9 November 2023. This multi-discipline sporting extravaganza promises to be a momentous event, with 43 sports disciplines including five indigenous sports – Mallakhamb, Kalaripayattu, Gatka, Lagori and yoga; and over 8000 athletes set to captivate the nation. The National Games Organising Committee (NGOC) and  The Sports Authority of Goa are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the success of this grand spectacle. At the heart of this preparation is the recruitment of dedicated volunteers who will play a pivotal role in making history at the Goa Premier Sporting Event.

    The Countdown Begins

    As the clock ticks down to the start of the 37 National Games, the National Games Organising Committee (NGOC) is actively recruiting volunteers. These individuals, drawn from the vibrant youth of Goa, will not only represent the state but also contribute to Goa’s reputation as a world-famous tourist destination.

    On the differentiation between Booking.com and its competitors

    Number one, I would say the flexibility and convenience that we offer to our consumers. Second is the transparency in pricing because what you see on the first page when you get the search listing is ultimately the price that you book. There are no hidden fees of any sort, etc. So it’s very much consumer-focused. So I would say, those are the two key USPs.

    On the specialty that Sports Tourism has, that other forms of tourism don’t

    I think both sports and travel go pretty well because they both connect people, they help people see the destination and get access to experiences that they would not have otherwise. I think, in general, it also helps people connect across cultures. Sports is a great leveler and I think travel does the same. Therefore, I think they both go hand in hand.

    On reaching out to tier-2 and tier-3 markets

    Earlier this year, we introduced Hindi as a new language option to enhance our appeal to regional consumers seeking a localized experience. Hindi is now available both on our website and app. Our partners can access our platform in Hindi, allowing them to upload their property listings and manage their inventory in this language. Likewise, consumers can browse, search for, and make bookings in Hindi, making our services more accessible and relevant at the local level.

    Hindi marks the first Indian language we’ve introduced, and it is the 46th language available globally on our platform. If it proves beneficial, we may consider launching additional regional languages in the future.

    Furthermore, we are actively working to increase our local relevance in social media marketing, such as on Instagram, to better connect with Indian consumers. Additionally, through our investment in ICC Cricket-related initiatives, we hope that we’ll be able to bring about more brand awareness in tier-2 and 3 markets as well.

    On future expansion plans

    In general, we’ve obviously launched new categories beyond accommodation. We were primarily an accommodation player previously. Now we have launched, flights, cars, and attractions, with flights being live in over 50 countries globally now.

    In India, it’s been live for about 18 months. We are also continuously expanding our range of attractions, forming partnerships with companies like Kluck and Viator in the Asia Pacific region. We want to become the one-stop shop for somebody who’s traveling.

    Secondly, we’re investing also in the area of sustainability, because a lot of consumers want to travel more sustainably. They want to find sustainable options. So, we have a sustainable badge that we launched in 2021.     Mumbai: In an effort to empower female cricketers and raise the stature of women’s cricket in the state, ManoramaOnline, the news portal in Malayalam, proudly hosted the ManoramaOnline Super Women’s Cup in association with Chungath Jewelry & Chaver Movie. The tournament was held on August 25 and 26 at the Paris Sports Center (PSC) in Ernakulam.

    Amid the ODI Cricket World Cup fever gripping the nation, the event witnessed tremendous enthusiasm and participation from both players and spectators, making it a grand success. The primary objective of the tournament was to support women cricketers.

    The journey to the championship was marked by intense competition and sportsmanship. Social, digital and print media were effectively utilised to invite entries from women’s cricket teams. Eight formidable teams advanced to the knockout stage. They were: Brawlers Cricket Club, Wisden Cricket Club, Lenkara Jewelry Design Institute, Marthoma College, Scoreline Cricket Club, St. Paul’s College, St. Teresa’s College and UC College.

    After fierce battles, four teams — Lenkara Jewelry Design Institute, UC College, Marthoma College and Wisden Cricket Club — entered the semifinals.

    After an exciting semis, Widen and UC College advanced to the final match.  

    In a thrilling title clash, Wisden Cricket Club emerged victorious, clinching the ManoramaOnline Super Women’s CUP, defeating an exceptionally skilled UC College.

    To add to the excitement, a friendly match was played between the champions Wisden Cricket Club, and the lead actors of the upcoming Malayalam movie “Chaver,” featuring iconic stars such as Kunchako Boban, Antony Pepe, Arun Nair, Tinu Papappacha and their crew.

    The tournament, spanning over two action-packed days, was played in front of a packed audience at the Paris Cricket Turf in Ernakulam. The winners received a cash prize of Rs 25,000, while the runners-up were awarded Rs 15,000 at the prize distribution ceremony attended by Shri Hibi Eden, honourable MP of Ernakulam & Thrikkakara MLA Uma Thomas. Excited by the overwhelming cricket atmosphere, guests also tried their hand at batting and balling along with the movie crew ahead of the ceremony.  

    In a heartwarming gesture, participants and celebrities who were part of the tournament signed a cricket bat, extending their best wishes to the Indian Men’s Cricket team for their upcoming ICC Men’s ODI World Cup campaign. The signed bat will be presented to the Indian cricket team and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) through the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA).

    Kunchako Boban, Malayalam superstar and the lead actor of “Chaver,” expressed his excitement at being part of the tournament and commended the women cricketers for their outstanding performance. Antony Varghese, popularly known as Antony Pepe, praised the women cricketers and encouraged them to dream of following in the footsteps of Minnu Mani, the only player from Kerala to be picked in the inaugural Women’s Premier League auction and to elevate their game to the international level, representing the country.

    TIPS Industries receives favourable judgment in dispute against Wynk

    Mumbai: TIPS Industries Ltd., India’s music label and a leading player in the music and entertainment industry, has announced that the company had received a favourable judgement from the Division Bench of the Hon’ble Bombay High Court in their legal proceedings against Wynk Ltd. The judgment highlighted the fact that Wynk Ltd. had utilised TIPS Industries’ content without a formal commercial arrangement and disallowed Wnyk from using any part of the TIPS repertoire and upheld previous single bench judgment by the Hon’ble Justice S J Kathawalla.

    A spokesperson from TIPS Industries Ltd. said, “We hold the court’s decision in high regard and appreciate its thorough examination of the case. Our primary objective throughout this process has been to ensure that the rights of copyright holders are upheld. We hope this judgment will serve as a landmark for similar cases in the entertainment industry, emphasising the importance of copyright laws.”

    The court’s judgment provides a detailed and objective interpretation of certain provisions of the Section 31D of the Copyright Act, 1957.

    In summary, a dispute between TIPS Industries and Wynk Ltd. concerned the utilisation of TIPS Industries’ repertoire by Wynk Ltd. without an established commercial agreement. Over the course of the dispute, despite multiple communications and efforts to reach a commercial resolution, a mutual agreement could not be achieved. As a result, TIPS Industries requested Wynk to remove the entire TIPS repertoire from its platform, failing which and followed by a statutory license notice issued by Wynk to Tips, Tips had to seek refuge under the legislative framework before the Hon’ble Bombay High Court.

    Tips managing director Kumar Taurani had to say, “It’s been a long journey on this case, since 2016 from its start and between Covid-19 and right until today. We are grateful for this order and sincerely thank the judicial system. There’s no doubt that we have lost business and faced losses over these last 7 years but this judgement paves the way forward for all copyright holders. We are here to do business and now that there’s a clear legal mandate we hope that this will further fuel Tips’s growth.”

    RCB appoints Big Bash winner Luke Williams as WPL head coach

    Mumbai: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has roped in Australia’s Luke Williams as the head coach for the RCB women’s team for WPL.

    The 43-year-old Adelaide-born former cricketer has played first-class cricket for South Australia. In his four-season stint as a head coach of Adelaide Strikers, Williams guided the team to their first Women’s Big Bash League crown in 2022-2023 after two runners-up finishes.

    Associated with Southern Brave as their assistant coach, Luke, with a performance-oriented vision turned the fortunes and guided the team to their first-ever Women’s Hundred Championship.

    He also spent four years with South Australian Scorpions in the Women’s National Cricket League (50 overs) and guided them to runner-up position on two occasions. He was the head coach of Australia A side that toured England earlier this year.
