  • LALIGA organises ‘LALIGA AWARDS, The Pride of our Fútbol’

LALIGA organises ‘LALIGA AWARDS, The Pride of our Fútbol’

Mumbai: LALIGA, as part of its agreement with Globe Soccer, organises the “LALIGA AWARDS, The Pride of our Fútbol,” which consists of five monthly awards recognising the best goal, best player, best coach, best play and best U23 player, while recognition will also be given to the Team of the Season and the top player in terms of their social contribution.

To decide these prizes, the opinions of an expert committee are combined with the views from fans, who can vote for each month’s winners on the website titled: Feel the power of our Fútbol | LALIGA.

Girona FC’s Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk named Best Player.

High-flying Girona FC continue to be the surprise package of the LALIGA EA SPORTS season, sitting level on points with leaders Real Madrid after 19 matches and racking up three wins and a draw from four matches throughout December. One man who has played a fundamental role in this continued streak is Artem Dovbyk, whose four goals in those four games – including one in his side’s historic and unprecedented 4-2 win away at local rivals and reigning champions FC Barcelona – have led him to be named Best Player for December.

So impressive have Girona FC’s performances been this past month that Dovbyk’s teammate Yan Couto takes home the Best U23 Player award. The Brazilian has been almost ever-present for the Catalans this season, and this month contributed three assists including one for club stalwart and all-time leading scorer Cristhian Stuani in his side’s dramatic 2-1 win over Valencia CF at Montilivi.

Elsewhere, Athletic Club’s continued form sees Ernesto Valverde recognized as Best Coach. Los Leones sit in fifth place, just three points off a Champions League spot, with Valverde, now in his third spell in charge at San Mamés, masterminding three wins from four matches across December, including a convincing 2-0 win over title-challengers Atlético de Madrid. Athletic Club stars Nico Williams and Iñigo Lekue also take home the Best Play of the month award for their link-up play in that very same match, a move which began on the right flank and ended with a sensational strike from Nico into Jan Oblak’s top right corner from the most unlikely of angles.

Finally, the Best Goal award goes to Real Betis wide man Aitor Ruibal – who has played mostly as a right-back this season – for his remarkable long-range strike against LALIGA EA SPORTS leaders Real Madrid. The goal secured a point for Los Verdiblancos and kept Manuel Pellegrini’s men well and truly in the hunt for a European spot.

  • Sony likely to call off merger – a low probability event for now

Sony likely to call off merger – a low probability event for now

Mumbai: According to media reports, Sony is expected to call of USD 10bn merger with Zee due to a standoff over whether Zee’s CEO Punit Goenka would lead the merged entity.

Sony plans to file the termination notice before a 20 Jan 2024, extended deadline for closing the deal, saying some of the conditions necessary for the merger had not been met.

Discussions are still ongoing between the two sides and a resolution can still emerge before the deadline.

    View

We don’t foresee any negative impact of above so far. As per our checks, deal conversations continue and will most likely go ahead without Goenka as CEO; we expect a final clarity on the extension of the deal by third of week of January’24, which is almost a month ahead of the 20 Dec’2023 agreement cut off date. Conversations continue to happen for both parties, however no final outcome has been reached yet on terms of the deal.

We continue to believe that the deal is equally important for both entities with competitive intensity growing due to Disney/RIL talks gaining traction.

Maintain our view the likelihood of the deal going through remains high, Zee had made a statement on 20 Dec, 2023 on entering fair negotiations with Sony, which indicates that they too are very much in favour of the deal going through.

We will await more updates and any official statement from both parties, in case of change in stance. We don’t foresee Sony agreeing on Mr Punit becoming CEO, due to the ongoing investigation against him. However, there is a very small chance of Goenka putting the deal at risk due to him wanting to become CEO, even if term sheet and deal condition mentions that Zee has moved up 50 per cent over the last one year, despite a muted financial performance , largely on the back of valuation multiple re-rating due to the merger with Sony Corp; any potential risk of the merger getting called off by Sony will have a significant negative impact on valuations.

Post the change in deal terms/ potential name of a new CEO for the merged Co, shareholder, Board, ROC (Registrar of Companies) and MIB (Ministry of Information and Broadcasting) approval may be needed which may only take a few weeks; our legal experts indicate that a fresh NCLT/CCI approval will not be needed for change in CEO of the merged co; further, as per our assessment – the NCLT/CCI  approval isn’t time bound, which means any potential extension has no negative impact on the merger.

‘Beyond Boardrooms: Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murty Share Their Untold Story’

Mumbai: CNBC-TV18, India’s business news channel, is gearing up for an double feature on 8 January 2024, at 7 PM showcasing an exclusive interview with Shereen Bhan, managing editor CNBC-TV18 with two of India’s renowned leaders of India Inc NR Narayana Murthy, and Sudha Murty. The inspiring conversation delves into their extraordinary life, unveiling untold stories from their past and their personal sacrifice that fuelled the success of Infosys.

In the interview, the Murthy’s open up about their journey from the early days of Infosys to personal milestones, offering a comprehensive understanding of their shared values and individual strengths. The conversation transcends business success, delving into the heart of their extraordinary relationship. From Sudha Murty’s choice to spell her surname as ‘Murty’ due to Sanskrit beliefs instead of ‘Murthy’ to NR Narayana Murthy’s commitment to leading by example, the couple provides glimpses into the values that built not only a successful business but also a harmonious family.

Talking about taking a step back in her journey with Infosys Murty said, “Thinking about managing my family and work I thought of taking a step back, at least that’s what the brain said, but the heart did not accept it. The heart said no; I have to work because I love technology. Also, the idea of working hard for your own company brought a different kind of joy to me. It’s not just about money; the joy of working with your colleagues and creating a product or service is something very special. I always enjoyed that in telecom, and I have to acknowledge that for everything, there is a price.”

In his latest interaction, Murthy while facing questions about the backlash surrounding his recommendation of a 70-hour work week, addressed the criticism and highlighted the hard work put in by the less privileged section in India, adding that people need to work hard in this country because poor farmers and factory workers work very hard, he said, “I rationalise it this way. When somebody has performed much better than me in their own field, I respect them and ask where they find me wrong in this. But I didn’t find it. A lot of my western friends, NRIs, and good people in India have called me and they are very happy about it. Those of us who received education at a very huge discount, thanks to subsidies from the government, owe it to the less fortunate citizens of India to work harder.”

As the co-founders of Infosys, NR Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murty reveal the intricate layers of their journey, providing insights into their shared values, individual strengths, and the unconventional choices that have left an indelible mark on India’s corporate landscape. The interview, conducted by CNBC-TV18’s Shereen Bhan, goes beyond business, delving into the heart of their extraordinary relationship and emphasizing the art of sacrifice, resilience, and conviction that paved the way for Infosys.
